וַ֠יִּסְעוּ

כָּל־

עֲדַ֨ת

‘ă·ḏaṯ

the congregation

בְּנֵֽי־

bə·nê-

of the sons

יִשְׂרָאֵ֧ל

yiś·rā·’êl

מִמִּדְבַּר־

mim·miḏ·bar-

from the Wilderness

､ סִ֛ין

sîn

of Sin ､

､ לְמַסְעֵיהֶ֖ם

lə·mas·‘ê·hem

on their journey ､

עַל־

‘al-

פִּ֣י

pî

the commandment

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

of Yahweh ､

וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙

way·ya·ḥă·nū

､ בִּרְפִידִ֔ים

bir·p̄î·ḏîm,

in Rephidim ､

וְאֵ֥ין

wə·’ên

but no

מַ֖יִם

ma·yim

[there was] water

לִשְׁתֹּ֥ת

liš·tōṯ

. הָעָֽם׃

hā·‘ām.

for the people .

וַיָּ֤רֶב

way·yā·reḇ

Therefore contended

הָעָם֙

hā·‘ām

עִם־

‘im-

with

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

､ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ

way·yō·mə·rū,

and said ､

תְּנוּ־

tə·nū-

לָ֥נוּ

lā·nū

us

מַ֖יִם

ma·yim

. וְנִשְׁתֶּ֑ה

wə·niš·teh;

that we may drink .

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

לָהֶם֙

lā·hem

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

מַה־

mah-

תְּרִיבוּן֙

tə·rî·ḇūn

עִמָּדִ֔י

‘im·mā·ḏî,

with me

؟ מַה־

mah-

why ؟

תְּנַסּ֖וּן

tə·nas·sūn

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

؟ יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וַיִּצְמָ֨א

way·yiṣ·mā

שָׁ֤ם

šām

הָעָם֙

hā·‘ām

– לַמַּ֔יִם

lam·ma·yim,

וַיָּ֥לֶן

way·yā·len

הָעָ֖ם

hā·‘ām

עַל־

‘al-

､ מֹשֶׁ֑ה

mō·šeh;

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

and said ､

לָ֤מָּה

lām·māh

זֶּה֙

zeh

[is] this

הֶעֱלִיתָ֣נוּ

he·‘ĕ·lî·ṯā·nū

you have brought us up

מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם

mim·miṣ·ra·yim,

לְהָמִ֥ית

lə·hā·mîṯ

אֹתִ֛י

’ō·ṯî

us

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

בָּנַ֥י

bā·nay

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

מִקְנַ֖י

miq·nay

؟ בַּצָּמָֽא׃

baṣ·ṣā·mā.

with thirst ؟

וַיִּצְעַ֤ק

way·yiṣ·‘aq

מֹשֶׁה֙

mō·šeh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ לֵאמֹ֔ר

lê·mōr,

מָ֥ה

māh

אֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה

’e·‘ĕ·śeh

shall I do

לָעָ֣ם

lā·‘ām

؟ הַזֶּ֑ה

haz·zeh;

ע֥וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

מְעַ֖ט

mə·‘aṭ

! וּסְקָלֻֽנִי׃

ū·sə·qā·lu·nî.

and they are to stone me !

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ מֹשֶׁ֗ה

mō·šeh,

עֲבֹר֙

‘ă·ḇōr

go on

לִפְנֵ֣י

lip̄·nê

､ הָעָ֔ם

hā·‘ām,

the people ､

וְקַ֥ח

wə·qaḥ

and take

אִתְּךָ֖

’it·tə·ḵā

with you

מִזִּקְנֵ֣י

miz·ziq·nê

some of the elders

– יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

yiś·rā·’êl;

of Israel –

וּמַטְּךָ֗

ū·maṭ·ṭə·ḵā,

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

with which

הִכִּ֤יתָ

hik·kî·ṯā

בּוֹ֙

bōw

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַיְאֹ֔ר

hay·’ōr,

the Nile ､

קַ֥ח

qaḥ

､ בְּיָדְךָ֖

bə·yā·ḏə·ḵā

in your hand ､

. וְהָלָֽכְתָּ׃

wə·hā·lā·ḵə·tā.

and go .

הִנְנִ֣י

hin·nî

עֹמֵד֩

‘ō·mêḏ

I will stand

לְפָנֶ֨יךָ

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā

שָּׁ֥ם ׀

šām

עַֽל־

‘al-

on

הַצּוּר֮

haṣ·ṣūr

the rock

– בְּחֹרֵב֒

bə·ḥō·rêḇ

in Horeb –

וְהִכִּ֣יתָ

wə·hik·kî·ṯā

and you shall strike

､ בַצּ֗וּר

ḇaṣ·ṣūr,

the rock ､

וְיָצְא֥וּ

wə·yā·ṣə·’ū

and will come

מִמֶּ֛נּוּ

mim·men·nū

out of it

､ מַ֖יִם

ma·yim

וְשָׁתָ֣ה

wə·šā·ṯāh

. הָעָ֑ם

hā·‘ām;

the people .

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ

way·ya·‘aś

כֵּן֙

kên

so

מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

לְעֵינֵ֖י

lə·‘ê·nê

in the sight

זִקְנֵ֥י

ziq·nê

of the elders

. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.

וַיִּקְרָא֙

way·yiq·rā

So he called

שֵׁ֣ם

šêm

the name

הַמָּק֔וֹם

ham·mā·qō·wm,

of the place

מַסָּ֖ה

mas·sāh

､ וּמְרִיבָ֑ה

ū·mə·rî·ḇāh;

and Meribah ､

עַל־

‘al-

רִ֣יב ׀

rîḇ

of the contention

בְּנֵ֣י

bə·nê

of the sons

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

וְעַ֨ל

wə·‘al

נַסֹּתָ֤ם

nas·sō·ṯām

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

､ לֵאמֹ֔ר

lê·mōr,

הֲיֵ֧שׁ

hă·yêš

is

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

בְּקִרְבֵּ֖נוּ

bə·qir·bê·nū

אִם־

’im-

or

؟ אָֽיִן׃

’ā·yin.

The Defeat of the Amalekites

וַיָּבֹ֖א

way·yā·ḇō

and came

､ עֲמָלֵ֑ק

‘ă·mā·lêq;

וַיִּלָּ֥חֶם

way·yil·lā·ḥem

עִם־

‘im-

with

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

. בִּרְפִידִֽם׃

bir·p̄î·ḏim.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

מֹשֶׁ֤ה

mō·šeh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙

yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘

בְּחַר־

bə·ḥar-

לָ֣נוּ

lā·nū

us

､ אֲנָשִׁ֔ים

’ă·nā·šîm,

וְצֵ֖א

wə·ṣê

and go out

הִלָּחֵ֣ם

hil·lā·ḥêm

. בַּעֲמָלֵ֑ק

ba·‘ă·mā·lêq;

with Amalek .

מָחָ֗ר

mā·ḥār,

אָנֹכִ֤י

’ā·nō·ḵî

I

נִצָּב֙

niṣ·ṣāḇ

will stand

עַל־

‘al-

on

רֹ֣אשׁ

rōš

the top

､ הַגִּבְעָ֔ה

hag·giḇ·‘āh,

of the hill ､

וּמַטֵּ֥ה

ū·maṭ·ṭêh

and with the rod

הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

. בְּיָדִֽי׃

bə·yā·ḏî.

in my hand .

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ

way·ya·‘aś

So did

יְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַ

yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘,

כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

אָֽמַר־

’ā·mar-

לוֹ֙

lōw

to him

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם

lə·hil·lā·ḥêm

– בַּעֲמָלֵ֑ק

ba·‘ă·mā·lêq;

with Amalek –

､ וּמֹשֶׁה֙

ū·mō·šeh

and Moses ､

､ אַהֲרֹ֣ן

’a·hă·rōn

וְח֔וּר

wə·ḥūr,

and Hur

עָל֖וּ

‘ā·lū

רֹ֥אשׁ

rōš

to the top

. הַגִּבְעָֽה׃

hag·giḇ·‘āh.

of the hill .

､ וְהָיָ֗ה

wə·hā·yāh,

And so it was ､

כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר

ka·’ă·šer

יָרִ֥ים

yā·rîm

מֹשֶׁ֛ה

mō·šeh

､ יָד֖וֹ

yā·ḏōw

וְגָבַ֣ר

wə·ḡā·ḇar

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

yiś·rā·’êl;

וְכַאֲשֶׁ֥ר

wə·ḵa·’ă·šer

and when

יָנִ֛יחַ

yā·nî·aḥ

､ יָד֖וֹ

yā·ḏōw

וְגָבַ֥ר

wə·ḡā·ḇar

. עֲמָלֵֽק׃

‘ă·mā·lêq.

וִידֵ֤י

wî·ḏê

מֹשֶׁה֙

mō·šeh

– כְּבֵדִ֔ים

kə·ḇê·ḏîm,

[became] heavy –

וַיִּקְחוּ־

way·yiq·ḥū-

､ אֶ֛בֶן

’e·ḇen

a stone ､

וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ

way·yā·śî·mū

and put [it]

תַחְתָּ֖יו

ṯaḥ·tāw

וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב

way·yê·šeḇ

and he sat

– עָלֶ֑יהָ

‘ā·le·hā;

on it –

וְאַהֲרֹ֨ן

wə·’a·hă·rōn

וְח֜וּר

wə·ḥūr

and Hur

תָּֽמְכ֣וּ

tā·mə·ḵū

､ בְיָדָ֗יו

ḇə·yā·ḏāw,

מִזֶּ֤ה

miz·zeh

､ אֶחָד֙

’e·ḥāḏ

one ､

וּמִזֶּ֣ה

ū·miz·zeh

and on this

– אֶחָ֔ד

’e·ḥāḏ,

one –

וַיְהִ֥י

way·hî

and were

יָדָ֛יו

yā·ḏāw

אֱמוּנָ֖ה

’ĕ·mū·nāh

עַד־

‘aḏ-

בֹּ֥א

bō

. הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃

haš·šā·meš.

of the sun .

וַיַּחֲלֹ֧שׁ

way·ya·ḥă·lōš

יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ

yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

עֲמָלֵ֥ק

‘ă·mā·lêq

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

עַמּ֖וֹ

‘am·mōw

לְפִי־

lə·p̄î-

with the edge

. חָֽרֶב׃

ḥā·reḇ.

of the sword .

And said

יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ מֹשֶׁ֗ה

mō·šeh,

כְּתֹ֨ב

kə·ṯōḇ

זֹ֤את

zōṯ

זִכָּרוֹן֙

zik·kā·rō·wn

[for] a memorial

､ בַּסֵּ֔פֶר

bas·sê·p̄er,

in the book ､

וְשִׂ֖ים

wə·śîm

and recount [it]

בְּאָזְנֵ֣י

bə·’ā·zə·nê

in the hearing

､ יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ

yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘;

of Joshua ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

מָחֹ֤ה

mā·ḥōh

אֶמְחֶה֙

’em·ḥeh

I will blot out

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

זֵ֣כֶר

zê·ḵer

the remembrance

עֲמָלֵ֔ק

‘ă·mā·lêq,

מִתַּ֖חַת

mit·ta·ḥaṯ

. הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

haš·šā·mā·yim.

וַיִּ֥בֶן

way·yi·ḇen

מֹשֶׁ֖ה

mō·šeh

､ מִזְבֵּ֑חַ

miz·bê·aḥ;

an altar ､

וַיִּקְרָ֥א

way·yiq·rā

､ שְׁמ֖וֹ

šə·mōw

יְהוָ֥ה ׀

Yah·weh

. נִסִּֽי׃

nis·sî.

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

For he said ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

יָד֙

yāḏ

-

עַל־

‘al-

-

כֵּ֣ס

! יָ֔הּ

yāh,

מִלְחָמָ֥ה

mil·ḥā·māh

[will have] war

לַיהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

בַּֽעֲמָלֵ֑ק

ba·‘ă·mā·lêq;

מִדֹּ֖ר

mid·dōr
