The high priests and the scribes heard of this, and they cast about for a way of destroying him, for they were afraid of him, for all the people were amazed at what he taught.
And Peter remembered about it and said to him, "Look, Master! The fig tree that you cursed is withered up!"
In solemn truth I tell you that if any one shall say to this mountain, 'Remove, and hurl thyself into the sea,' and has no doubt about it in his heart, but stedfastly believes that what he says will happen, it shall be granted him.
And they come again to Jerusalem. And as he walked about in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders come to him,
And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
And they went about to take him, but they feared the people. For they perceived that he spake that similitude against them. And they left him and went their way.
And, coming, they say unto him - Teacher! we know that, true, thou art, and it concerneth thee not about anyone, - for thou lookest not unto the face of men; but, in truth, the way of God, dost teach: - Is it allowable to give tax unto Caesar, or not? Should we give, or should we not give?
Should we pay it, or should we not pay it?" But Jesus was aware of their hypocrisy and said to them, "Bring me the coin so I can see it." [Note: The amount of this coin was equivalent to one day of a farm laborer's pay, or about $60-$84 in 1994].
When Jesus saw that he answered thoughtfully and intelligently, He said to him,
And he said to them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and salutations in the marketplaces,
Then a destitute widow came and dropped in two small copper coins, worth about a cent.
Tell us, when shall these things be? and what'shall be the sign when these things are all about to be accomplished?
And when you hear about wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. This must happen, but the end [is] not yet.
But about 'That Day,' or 'The Hour,' no one knows--not even the angels in Heaven, nor yet the Son--but only the Father.
It was now two days before the festival of the Passover and of Unleavened Bread. And the high priests and scribes were casting about for a way to arrest him by stealth and put him to death,
It might have been sold for a large sum of money and the money given to poor people. [Note: The amount indicated here was equivalent to days of a farm laborer's pay, or over $20,000 in 1994]. And they complained about her [doing this].
For truly I tell you, wherever the Gospel message will be preached throughout the whole world, what this woman has done [for me] will [also] be told about as a memorial of her [kindness to me]."
For the Son of Man is going just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! [It would be] better for him if that man had not been born."
Then said Jesus to them, "All of you are about to stumble and fall, for it is written, 'I will strike down the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered in all directions.'
But Peter said to Him, "Although everyone else will have doubts [about you], I never will."
And He came back a third time and said to them, "Go ahead and sleep now and get your rest. That is enough; the time has come. See, the Son of man is about to be turned over into the hands of sinners.
Then they all forsook him and fled. And a certain young man followed him, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body;
And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
And their testimony was not even consistent about this.
The high priest stood up and came forward and asked Jesus, “Have You no answer to give [in response] to what these men are testifying against You?”
You [yourselves] have heard him speaking against God. What do you people think [i.e., about such statements]?" And they all condemned Him as deserving the death penalty.
But he denied it: “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about!” Then he went out to the entryway, and a rooster crowed.
But he began to
Immediately a rooster crowed a second time,
And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,
When the sixth hour (noon) came, darkness covered the whole land until the ninth hour (3:00 p.m.).
And one, running, filled a sponge with vinegar, and, putting it about a reed, was giving him to drink, saying - Stay! let us see whether Elijah is coming, to take him down!
And, buying a fine Indian cloth, he took him down, and wrapped him about with the cloth, and laid him in a tomb, which had been hewn out of a rock, - and rolled near a stone upon the door of the tomb.
They went out and fled from the tomb, for they were seized with trembling and astonishment; and they said nothing [about it] to anyone, because they were afraid.
After these things happened, Jesus showed Himself in a different form to two disciples [Note: One was named Cleopas. See Luke 24:13-18], as they were walking out into the countryside [i.e., to the village of Emmaus, about seven miles northwest of Jerusalem. See Luke 24:13].
And these two men went and told about their encounter with Jesus to the rest of the disciples, but they did not believe them either.
Many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled
so that you may know the certainty concerning the things about which you were taught.
Now it came about that in his turn he was acting as priest before God,
Now, see, you will be without voice or language till the day when these things come about, because you had not faith in my words, which will have effect at the right time.
But she was greatly troubled by his words and began to wonder about the meaning of this greeting.
About that time Mary made a hurried trip to a Judean town in the hill country. [Note: This was be the same province in which Jerusalem was located].
And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.

And at [that] same hour she approached [and] began to give thanks to God, and to speak about him to all those who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
Then said he to the crowds coming out to he immersed by him, Generation of vipers, who indicated to you to flee from the anger about to come
Soldiers also asked him, saying, "What about us? What must we do?" He said to them, "Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages."
And while the people were waiting, and all men were questioning in their hearts about John, if he was the Christ or not,
But when Herod [Antipas] the tetrarch was repeatedly reprimanded [and convicted by John’s disapproval] for having
Now it came about that when all the people had been given baptism, Jesus, having had baptism with them, was in prayer, when, the heaven being open,
And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led about by the Spirit in the Desert for forty days,
For Scripture says--'He will give his angels commands about thee, to guard thee safely,'
And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
All testified about him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth, and they said, "Isn't this Joseph's son?"
And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
And having risen out of the synagogue, he entered into the house of Simon, and the mother-in-law of Simon was pressed with a great fever, and they did ask him about her,
When day broke he went away out to a lonely spot, but the crowds made inquiries about him, came to where he was, and tried to keep him from leaving them.
But He said to them,
Now it came about that while the people came pushing to be near him, and to have knowledge of the word of God, he was by a wide stretch of water named Gennesaret;
So they motioned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they were about to sink.
And it came about that while he was in one of the towns, there was a leper there: and when he saw Jesus he went down on his face in prayer to him, saying, Lord, if it is your pleasure, you have power to make me clean.
Then He ordered the man not to tell anyone [about the healing], saying, "Go on your way and show yourself to the priest and offer the proper sacrifice for your healing that Moses required [Lev. 13:49; 14:2ff] as evidence to people [that you were healed]."
But the report about him spread even more, and large crowds were gathering to hear [him] and to be healed of their illnesses.
And he withdrew himself, and was about in the desert places and praying.
And it came about that on one of these days he was teaching; and some Pharisees and teachers of the law were seated there, who had come from every town of Galilee and Judaea and from Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was with him, to make those who were ill free from their diseases.
The Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees began debating about this. "Who is this man who speaks so blasphemously?" they asked. "Who can forgive sins except God?"
Because Jesus knew that they were arguing, he asked them, "Why are you arguing about this among yourselves?
And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled about it to his disciples, and said, "Why do you eat and drink with tax-collectors and irreligious people?"
Now it came about that on the Sabbath he was going through the fields of grain, and his disciples took the heads of the grain for food, crushing them in their hands.
And Jesus answered them, "Have you never read about what King David did when he and his men were hungry [I Sam. 21:6];
And it came about, on another Sabbath, that he went into the Synagogue and was teaching there. And a man was there whose right hand was dead.
And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
But they were filled with rage, and talked with one another about what they might do to Jesus.
About that time He went out on one occasion into the hill country to pray; and He remained all night in prayer to God.
You are blessed when men hate you and withdraw their fellowship from you and speak abusively about you and reject your name as evil, [all] for being loyal to the Son of man.
