'Clothing' in the Bible
John had clothing made of camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist. His diet consisted of grasshoppers and wild honey.
“This is why I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing?
and about clothing why are ye anxious? consider well the lilies of the field; how do they grow? they do not labour, nor do they spin;
But if God gives such clothing to the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is put into the oven, will he not much more give you clothing, O you of little faith?
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
Unhappy are you, Chorazin! Unhappy are you, Beth-saida! For if the works of power which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have been turned from their sins in days gone by, clothing themselves in haircloth and putting dust on their heads.
And His appearance changed dramatically in their presence; and His face shone [with heavenly glory, clear and bright] like the sun, and His clothing became as white as light.
and they brought the donkey and the colt, and placed their coats on them; and Jesus sat on the coats.
And all the people put their clothing down in the way; and others got branches from the trees, and put them down in the way.
'And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with clothing of the marriage-feast,
and he saith to him, Comrade, how didst thou come in hither, not having clothing of the marriage-feast? and he was speechless.
I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.'
And when did we see you wandering, and take you in? or without clothing, and give it to you?
I was wandering, and you took me not in; without clothing, and you gave me no clothing; ill, and in prison, and you came not to me.
Then will they make answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food or drink, or wandering, or without clothing, or ill, or in prison, and did not take care of you?
Then the high priest tore his clothing, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy.
And they took off his clothing, and put on him a red robe.
And when they had made sport of him, they took the robe off him, and put his clothing on him, and took him away to put him on the cross.
When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among them, casting lots,
and his countenance was as lightning, and his clothing white as snow,
John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had a [wide] leather band around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.
for she was saying, "If I touch just his clothing, I will be healed!"
And immediately Jesus, perceiving in himself [that] power had gone out from himself, turned around in the crowd [and] said, "Who touched my clothing?"
and his clothing became radiant--extremely white, like no cloth refiner on earth can {make so white}.
And they took the young ass to Jesus, and put their clothing on him, and he got on his back.
And a great number put down their clothing in the way; and others put down branches which they had taken from the fields.
And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,
And when they had made sport of him, they took the purple robe off him and put his clothing on him. And they took him out to put him to death on the cross.
And he was nailed to the cross; and they made a division of his clothing among them, putting to the decision of chance what everyone was to take.
And he spake also a simile unto them -- 'No one a patch of new clothing doth put on old clothing, and if otherwise, the new also doth make a rent, and with the old the patch doth not agree, that is from the new.
But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in delicate garments? Behold, those who are in splendid clothing and live luxuriously are in the courts of kings.
And when He came out onto the land, He was met by a man from the city who was possessed with demons; and who had not put on any clothing for a long time, and was not living in a house, but in the tombs.
And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming.
And Jesus, answering him, said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he got into the hands of thieves, who took his clothing and gave him cruel blows, and when they went away, he was half dead.
For life is more than food and the body more than clothing.
But if God gives such clothing to the grass in the field, which today is living, and tomorrow will be burned in the oven, how much more will he give clothing to you, O men of little faith?
Now there was a certain man of great wealth, who was dressed in fair clothing of purple and delicate linen, and was shining and glad every day.
And they took him to Jesus, and they put their clothing on the ass, and Jesus got on to him.
And while he went on his way they put their clothing down on the road in front of him.
And Herod with his soldiers also treated him with contempt, and [after] mocking [him] [and] dressing [him] [in] glistening clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.
And Jesus said, Father, let them have forgiveness, for they have no knowledge of what they are doing. And they made division of his clothing among them by the decision of chance.
And it happened that while they were perplexed about this, behold, two men in gleaming clothing stood near them.
he got up from the dinner and took off [his] outer clothing, and taking a towel, tied [it] around himself.
So when Jesus had washed their feet and put his outer clothing back on, he took his place at the table again and said to them, "Do you understand what I have done for you?
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his clothing and made four shares--for each soldier a share--and the tunic. (Now the tunic was seamless, woven from the top {in a single piece}.)
So they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it, to see who gets it.” They did this to fulfill the Scripture that says: They divided My clothes among themselves, and they cast lots for My clothing. And this is what the soldiers did.
And as they were gazing into heaven, as he was going, behold, also two men stood by them in white clothing,
Driving him out of the town and stoning him: and the witnesses put their clothing at the feet of a young man named Saul.
So Peter got up and went with them, and when he arrived they brought him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him, crying and showing him the tunics and other clothing Dorcas used to make while she was with them.
And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
So on an appointed day Herod, [after] putting on royal clothing and sitting down on the judgment seat, began to deliver a public address to them.
But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard about it, they tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting,
And the crowd joined in attacking them, and the chief magistrates tore off their clothing [and] gave orders to beat [them] with rods.
But since the Jews kept resisting and opposing him, and blaspheming [God], he shook out his robe and said to them, “Your blood (damnation) be on your own heads! I am innocent of it. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”
So that bits of linen and clothing from his body were taken to people who were ill, and their diseases went away from them and the evil spirits went out.
And the man in whom the evil spirit was, jumping on them, was stronger than the two of them, and overcame them, so that they went running from that house, wounded and without their clothing.
I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing.
And he came to us, and took the band of Paul's clothing, and putting it round his feet and hands, said, The Holy Spirit says these words, So will the Jews do to the man who is the owner of this band, and they will give him up into the hands of the Gentiles.
And when Stephen your witness was put to death, I was there, giving approval, and looking after the clothing of those who put him to death.
And while they were crying out, and pulling off their clothing, and sending dust into the air,
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? [Will] affliction or distress or persecution or hunger or lack of sufficient clothing or danger or the sword?
Even to this hour we are without food, drink, and clothing, we are given blows and have no certain resting-place;
But our presentable parts have no need of clothing. Instead, God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the less honorable,
For while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened [often weighed down, oppressed], not that we want to be unclothed [separated by death from the body], but to be clothed, so that what is mortal [the body] will be swallowed up by life [after the resurrection].
labor and hardship,many sleepless nights, hunger and thirst,often without food, cold, and lacking clothing.
Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel,
But if we have food and clothing,we will be content with these.
they will perish, but You remain.They will all wear out like clothing;
For if there come into your synagogue a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, and there come in also a poor man in vile clothing;
And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,
Your riches have rotted and your clothing has become moth-eaten.
Let your adornment not be the external [kind], braiding hair and putting on gold jewelry or putting on [fine] clothing,
and some save, snatching them out of the fire with fear, hating even the clothing stained by the flesh.
But you have a few {people} in Sardis who have not defiled their clothing, and they will walk with me in white, because they are worthy.
The one who conquers will be dressed like them in white clothing, and I will never erase his name from the book of life, but will declare his name before my Father and before his angels.
For you say, I have wealth, and have got together goods and land, and have need of nothing; and you are not conscious of your sad and unhappy condition, that you are poor and blind and without clothing.

He is dressed in clothing dipped in blood, and he is called the Word of God.
He has a name written on his clothing and on his thigh: "King of kings and Lord of lords."
