Rewards of Obedience

וְאָ֣הַבְתָּ֔

wə·’ā·haḇ·tā,

Therefore you shall love

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ

’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā;

וְשָׁמַרְתָּ֣

wə·šā·mar·tā

and keep

､ מִשְׁמַרְתּ֗וֹ

miš·mar·tōw,

､ וְחֻקֹּתָ֧יו

wə·ḥuq·qō·ṯāw

and His statutes ､

､ וּמִשְׁפָּטָ֛יו

ū·miš·pā·ṭāw

and His judgments ､

､ וּמִצְוֺתָ֖יו

ū·miṣ·wō·ṯāw

and His commandments ､

כָּל־

kāl-

. הַיָּמִֽים׃

hay·yā·mîm.

the time .

וִֽידַעְתֶּם֮

wî·ḏa‘·tem

– הַיּוֹם֒

hay·yō·wm

כִּ֣י ׀

בְּנֵיכֶ֗ם

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר

and who

לֹא־

רָא֔וּ

rā·’ū,

אֶת־

מוּסַ֖ר

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם

’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem;

אֶת־

､ גָּדְל֕וֹ

gā·ḏə·lōw

His greatness ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ יָדוֹ֙

yā·ḏōw

and hand ､

הַחֲזָקָ֔ה

ha·ḥă·zā·qāh,

､ וּזְרֹע֖וֹ

ū·zə·rō·‘ōw

and arm ､

. הַנְּטוּיָֽה׃

han·nə·ṭū·yāh.

His outstretched .

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

And

､ אֹֽתֹתָיו֙

’ō·ṯō·ṯāw

וְאֶֽת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ מַעֲשָׂ֔יו

ma·‘ă·śāw,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

עָשָׂ֖ה

‘ā·śāh

He did

בְּת֣וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

in the midst

מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

לְפַרְעֹ֥ה

lə·p̄ar·‘ōh

מֶֽלֶךְ־

me·leḵ-

､ מִצְרַ֖יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

of Egypt ､

וּלְכָל־

ū·lə·ḵāl-

and to all

– אַרְצֽוֹ׃

’ar·ṣōw.

וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר

wa·’ă·šer

and what

עָשָׂה֩

‘ā·śāh

He did

לְחֵ֨יל

lə·ḥêl

to the army

､ מִצְרַ֜יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

of Egypt ､

､ לְסוּסָ֣יו

lə·sū·sāw

to their horses ､

– וּלְרִכְבּ֗וֹ

ū·lə·riḵ·bōw,

and their chariots –

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

הֵצִ֜יף

hê·ṣîp̄

He made overflow

אֶת־

’eṯ-

מֵ֤י

yam-

of the Sea

סוּף֙

sūp̄

עַל־

‘al-

פְּנֵיהֶ֔ם

pə·nê·hem,

בְּרָדְפָ֖ם

bə·rā·ḏə·p̄ām

as they pursued

אַחֲרֵיכֶ֑ם

’a·ḥă·rê·ḵem;

וַיְאַבְּדֵ֣ם

way·’ab·bə·ḏêm

and [how] has destroyed them

יְהוָ֔ה

in the wilderness ､

עַד־

､ וְלַאֲבִירָ֗ם

wə·la·’ă·ḇî·rām,

and Abiram ､

בְּנֵ֣י

the sons

､ אֱלִיאָב֮

’ĕ·lî·’āḇ

of Eliab ､

בֶּן־

ben-

the son

､ רְאוּבֵן֒

rə·’ū·ḇên

of Reuben ､

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

פָּצְתָ֤ה

pā·ṣə·ṯāh

הָאָ֙רֶץ֙

hā·’ā·reṣ

אֶת־

､ פִּ֔יהָ

pî·hā,

､ וַתִּבְלָעֵ֥ם

wat·tiḇ·lā·‘êm

and swallowed them up ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ בָּתֵּיהֶ֖ם

bāt·tê·hem

their households ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ אָהֳלֵיהֶ֑ם

’ā·ho·lê·hem;

their tents ､

וְאֵ֤ת

wə·’êṯ

and

כָּל־

kāl-

הַיְקוּם֙

hay·qūm

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ בְּרַגְלֵיהֶ֔ם

bə·raḡ·lê·hem,

in their possession ､

בְּקֶ֖רֶב

bə·qe·reḇ

in the midst

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

– יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

כִּ֤י

but

עֵֽינֵיכֶם֙

הָֽרֹאֹ֔ת

יְהוָ֖ה

הַגָּדֹ֑ל

hag·gā·ḏōl;

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

God's Great Blessings

וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם֙

Therefore you shall keep

הַמִּצְוָ֔ה

ham·miṣ·wāh,

אֲשֶׁ֛ר

’ă·šer

אָנֹכִ֥י

I

מְצַוְּךָ֖

mə·ṣaw·wə·ḵā

､ הַיּ֑וֹם

hay·yō·wm;

לְמַ֣עַן

lə·ma·‘an

､ תֶּחֶזְק֗וּ

te·ḥez·qū,

you may be strong ､

וּבָאתֶם֙

ū·ḇā·ṯem

and go in

וִֽירִשְׁתֶּ֣ם

wî·riš·tem

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

the land ､

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

אַתֶּ֛ם

’at·tem

עֹבְרִ֥ים

‘ō·ḇə·rîm

שָׁ֖מָּה

šām·māh

. לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃

lə·riš·tāh.

וּלְמַ֨עַן

ū·lə·ma·‘an

תַּאֲרִ֤יכוּ

you may prolong

יָמִים֙

yā·mîm

עַל־

‘al-

in

､ הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh,

the land ､

אֲשֶׁר֩

’ă·šer

נִשְׁבַּ֨ע

niš·ba‘

יְהוָ֧ה

Yah·weh

לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶ֛ם

la·’ă·ḇō·ṯê·ḵem

לָתֵ֥ת

lā·ṯêṯ

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

､ וּלְזַרְעָ֑ם

ū·lə·zar·‘ām;

and their descendants ､

אֶ֛רֶץ

’e·reṣ

זָבַ֥ת

zā·ḇaṯ

חָלָ֖ב

ḥā·lāḇ

. וּדְבָֽשׁ׃

and honey .

and watered [it]

by foot ､

כְּגַ֥ן

kə·ḡan

– הַיָּרָֽק׃

hay·yā·rāq.

､ וְהָאָ֗רֶץ

wə·hā·’ā·reṣ,

but the land [is] ､

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

אַתֶּ֜ם

’at·tem

עֹבְרִ֥ים

‘ō·ḇə·rîm

שָׁ֙מָּה֙

šām·māh

לְרִשְׁתָּ֔הּ

lə·riš·tāh,

אֶ֥רֶץ

’e·reṣ

הָרִ֖ים

hā·rîm

､ וּבְקָעֹ֑ת

ū·ḇə·qā·‘ōṯ;

and valleys ､

לִמְטַ֥ר

lim·ṭar

､ הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim

of the heaven ､

תִּשְׁתֶּה־

tiš·teh-

. מָּֽיִם׃

mā·yim.

אֶ֕רֶץ

’e·reṣ

אֲשֶׁר־

יְהוָ֥ה

the eyes of

My commandments

אֲשֶׁ֧ר

מְצַוֶּ֥ה

אֶתְכֶ֖ם

’eṯ·ḵem

､ הַיּ֑וֹם

hay·yō·wm;

לְאַהֲבָ֞ה

lə·’a·hă·ḇāh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יְהוָ֤ה

Yah·weh

､ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙

’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem

וּלְעָבְד֔וֹ

ū·lə·‘ā·ḇə·ḏōw,

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

with all

לְבַבְכֶ֖ם

lə·ḇaḇ·ḵem

וּבְכָל־

ū·ḇə·ḵāl

and with all

､ נַפְשְׁכֶֽם׃

nap̄·šə·ḵem.

וְנָתַתִּ֧י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

then I will give [you]

מְטַֽר־

mə·ṭar-

אַרְצְכֶ֛ם

’ar·ṣə·ḵem

､ בְּעִתּ֖וֹ

bə·‘it·tōw

in its season ､

יוֹרֶ֣ה

yō·w·reh

､ וּמַלְק֑וֹשׁ

ū·mal·qō·wōš;

and the latter rain ､

וְאָסַפְתָּ֣

wə·’ā·sap̄·tā

that you may gather in

､ דְגָנֶ֔ךָ

ḏə·ḡā·ne·ḵā,

､ וְתִֽירֹשְׁךָ֖

wə·ṯî·rō·šə·ḵā

and your new wine ､

. וְיִצְהָרֶֽךָ׃

wə·yiṣ·hā·re·ḵā.

and your oil .

וְנָתַתִּ֛י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

And I will send

עֵ֥שֶׂב

‘ê·śeḇ

בְּשָׂדְךָ֖

bə·śā·ḏə·ḵā

､ לִבְהֶמְתֶּ֑ךָ

liḇ·hem·te·ḵā;

for your livestock ､

וְאָכַלְתָּ֖

wə·’ā·ḵal·tā

that you may eat

. וְשָׂבָֽעְתָּ׃

wə·śā·ḇā·‘ə·tā.

and be filled .

הִשָּֽׁמְר֣וּ

hiš·šā·mə·rū

לָכֶ֔ם

lā·ḵem,

פֶּ֥ן

pen

､ יִפְתֶּ֖ה

yip̄·teh

be deceived ､

לְבַבְכֶ֑ם

lə·ḇaḇ·ḵem;

､ וְסַרְתֶּ֗ם

wə·sar·tem,

and you turn aside ､

וַעֲבַדְתֶּם֙

wa·‘ă·ḇaḏ·tem

､ אֱלֹהִ֣ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

gods ､

אֲחֵרִ֔ים

’ă·ḥê·rîm,

וְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶ֖ם

wə·hiš·ta·ḥă·wî·ṯem

. לָהֶֽם׃

lā·hem.

וְחָרָ֨ה

wə·ḥā·rāh

And lest be aroused

אַף־

’ap̄-

יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

בָּכֶ֗ם

bā·ḵem,

וְעָצַ֤ר

wə·‘ā·ṣar

and He shut up

אֶת־

’eṯ-

､ הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙

haš·šā·ma·yim

the heavens ､

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

so that no

יִהְיֶ֣ה

yih·yeh

､ מָטָ֔ר

mā·ṭār,

rain ､

וְהָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה

wə·hā·’ă·ḏā·māh,

and the land

לֹ֥א

lō

no

תִתֵּ֖ן

ṯit·tên

אֶת־

-

– יְבוּלָ֑הּ

yə·ḇū·lāh;

וַאֲבַדְתֶּ֣ם

wa·’ă·ḇaḏ·tem

מְהֵרָ֗ה

mə·hê·rāh,

מֵעַל֙

mê·‘al

הָאָ֣רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

the land

הַטֹּבָ֔ה

haṭ·ṭō·ḇāh,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

נֹתֵ֥ן

nō·ṯên

. לָכֶֽם׃

Remember God's Words

וְשַׂמְתֶּם֙

wə·śam·tem

Therefore you shall lay up

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

דְּבָרַ֣י

də·ḇā·ray

אֵ֔לֶּה

’êl·leh,

עַל־

‘al-

in

לְבַבְכֶ֖ם

lə·ḇaḇ·ḵem

וְעַֽל־

wə·‘al-

and in

､ נַפְשְׁכֶ֑ם

nap̄·šə·ḵem;

וּקְשַׁרְתֶּ֨ם

ū·qə·šar·tem

and bind

אֹתָ֤ם

’ō·ṯām

לְאוֹת֙

lə·’ō·wṯ

as a sign

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ יֶדְכֶ֔ם

yeḏ·ḵem,

וְהָי֥וּ

wə·hā·yū

and they shall be

לְטוֹטָפֹ֖ת

lə·ṭō·w·ṭā·p̄ōṯ

בֵּ֥ין

bên

. עֵינֵיכֶֽם׃

‘ê·nê·ḵem.

וְלִמַּדְתֶּ֥ם

wə·lim·maḏ·tem

And You shall teach

אֹתָ֛ם

’ō·ṯām

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ בְּנֵיכֶ֖ם

bə·nê·ḵem

to your children ､

לְדַבֵּ֣ר

lə·ḏab·bêr

בָּ֑ם

bām;

בְּשִׁבְתְּךָ֤

bə·šiḇ·tə·ḵā

､ בְּבֵיתֶ֙ךָ֙

bə·ḇê·ṯe·ḵā

in your house ､

וּבְלֶכְתְּךָ֣

ū·ḇə·leḵ·tə·ḵā

and when you walk

､ בַדֶּ֔רֶךְ

ḇad·de·reḵ,

by the way ､

､ וּֽבְשָׁכְבְּךָ֖

ū·ḇə·šā·ḵə·bə·ḵā

and when you lie down ､

. וּבְקוּמֶֽךָ׃

ū·ḇə·qū·me·ḵā.

and when you rise up .

וּכְתַבְתָּ֛ם

ū·ḵə·ṯaḇ·tām

And you shall write them

עַל־

‘al-

on

מְזוּז֥וֹת

mə·zū·zō·wṯ

､ בֵּיתֶ֖ךָ

bê·ṯe·ḵā

of your house ､

､ וּבִשְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃

ū·ḇiš·‘ā·re·ḵā.

and on your gates ､

לְמַ֨עַן

lə·ma·‘an

､ יִרְבּ֤וּ

yir·bū

may be multiplied ､

יְמֵיכֶם֙

yə·mê·ḵem

וִימֵ֣י

wî·mê

and the days

､ בְנֵיכֶ֔ם

ḇə·nê·ḵem,

of your children ､

עַ֚ל

‘al

in

הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh,

the land

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

נִשְׁבַּ֧ע

niš·ba‘

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם

la·’ă·ḇō·ṯê·ḵem

to your fathers

לָתֵ֣ת

lā·ṯêṯ

לָהֶ֑ם

lā·hem;

כִּימֵ֥י

kî·mê

הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim

of the heavens

עַל־

‘al-

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

לַעֲשֹׂתָ֑הּ

לָלֶ֥כֶת

בְּכָל־

in all

､ דְּרָכָ֖יו

də·rā·ḵāw

וּלְדָבְקָה־

ū·lə·ḏā·ḇə·qāh-

and to hold fast

. בֽוֹ׃

ḇōw.

to Him .

וְהוֹרִ֧ישׁ

wə·hō·w·rîš

Then will drive out

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כָּל־

kāl-

הַגּוֹיִ֥ם

hag·gō·w·yim

הָאֵ֖לֶּה

hā·’êl·leh

מִלִּפְנֵיכֶ֑ם

mil·lip̄·nê·ḵem;

from before you

וִֽירִשְׁתֶּ֣ם

wî·riš·tem

and you will dispossess

גּוֹיִ֔ם

gō·w·yim,

גְּדֹלִ֥ים

gə·ḏō·lîm

וַעֲצֻמִ֖ים

wa·‘ă·ṣu·mîm

. מִכֶּֽם׃

mik·kem.

than yourselves .

כָּל־

הַמָּק֗וֹם

ham·mā·qō·wm,

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

תִּדְרֹ֧ךְ

tiḏ·rōḵ

כַּֽף־

the sole

רַגְלְכֶ֛ם

raḡ·lə·ḵem

בּ֖וֹ

in

לָכֶ֣ם

יִהְיֶ֑ה

הַמִּדְבָּ֨ר

､ וְהַלְּבָנ֜וֹן

and Lebanon ､

מִן־

min-

､ הַנָּהָ֣ר

han·nā·hār

the river ､

נְהַר־

nə·har-

､ פְּרָ֗ת

pə·rāṯ,

וְעַד֙

wə·‘aḏ

and even to

הַיָּ֣ם

hay·yām

the Sea

הָֽאַחֲר֔וֹן

hā·’a·ḥă·rō·wn,

יִהְיֶ֖ה

yih·yeh

. גְּבֻלְכֶֽם׃

gə·ḇul·ḵem.

your territory .

לֹא־

lō-

יִתְיַצֵּ֥ב

yiṯ·yaṣ·ṣêḇ

shall be able to stand

אִ֖ישׁ

’îš

בִּפְנֵיכֶ֑ם

bip̄·nê·ḵem;

פַּחְדְּכֶ֨ם

paḥ·də·ḵem

the fear of you

וּמֽוֹרַאֲכֶ֜ם

ū·mō·w·ra·’ă·ḵem

and the dread of you

יִתֵּ֣ן ׀

yit·tên

will put

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֗ם

’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem,

עַל־

‘al-

פְּנֵ֤י

pə·nê

the face

כָל־

ḵāl

of all

הָאָ֙רֶץ֙

hā·’ā·reṣ

the land

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

תִּדְרְכוּ־

tiḏ·rə·ḵū-

בָ֔הּ

ḇāh,

in

כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר

in the plain

הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֑ים
