וַיְדַבֵּ֨ר

And said

יְהוָ֤ה

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ מֹשֶׁה֙

mō·šeh

､ לֵ֣ךְ

lêḵ

עֲלֵ֣ה

‘ă·lêh

[and] go up

､ מִזֶּ֔ה

miz·zeh,

from this [place] ､

אַתָּ֣ה

’at·tāh

וְהָעָ֔ם

wə·hā·‘ām,

and the people

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

הֶֽעֱלִ֖יתָ

he·‘ĕ·lî·ṯā

you have brought

מֵאֶ֣רֶץ

mê·’e·reṣ

out of the land

､ מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

of Egypt ､

אֶל־

’el-

to

הָאָ֗רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

the land

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

נִ֠שְׁבַּעְתִּי

niš·ba‘·tî

､ לְאַבְרָהָ֨ם

lə·’aḇ·rā·hām

to Abraham ､

､ לְיִצְחָ֤ק

lə·yiṣ·ḥāq

､ וּֽלְיַעֲקֹב֙

ū·lə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ

and Jacob ､

､ לֵאמֹ֔ר

lê·mōr,

לְזַרְעֲךָ֖

lə·zar·‘ă·ḵā

to your descendants

. אֶתְּנֶֽנָּה׃

’et·tə·nen·nāh.

I will give it .

וְשָׁלַחְתִּ֥י

wə·šā·laḥ·tî

And I will send

לְפָנֶ֖יךָ

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā

､ מַלְאָ֑ךְ

mal·’āḵ;

an angel ､

וְגֵֽרַשְׁתִּ֗י

wə·ḡê·raš·tî,

and I will drive out

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙

hak·kə·na·‘ă·nî

the Canaanite ､

､ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י

hā·’ĕ·mō·rî,

and the Amorite ､

､ וְהַֽחִתִּי֙

wə·ha·ḥit·tî

and the Hittite ､

､ וְהַפְּרִזִּ֔י

wə·hap·pə·riz·zî,

and the Perizzite ､

､ הַחִוִּ֖י

ha·ḥiw·wî

and the Hivite ､

. וְהַיְבוּסִֽי׃

wə·hay·ḇū·sî.

and the Jebusite .

אֶל־

with milk

– וּדְבָ֑שׁ

ū·ḏə·ḇāš;

and honey –

כִּי֩

אֶֽעֱלֶ֜ה

’e·‘ĕ·leh

I will go up

､ בְּקִרְבְּךָ֗

bə·qir·bə·ḵā,

in your midst ､

כִּ֤י

kî

עַם־

‘am-

קְשֵׁה־

qə·šêh-

עֹ֙רֶף֙

‘ō·rep̄

､ אַ֔תָּה

’at·tāh,

you [are] ､

פֶּן־

pen-

אֲכֶלְךָ֖

’ă·ḵel·ḵā

. בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃

bad·dā·reḵ.

on the way .

וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע

way·yiš·ma‘

הָעָ֗ם

hā·‘ām,

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַדָּבָ֥ר

had·dā·ḇār

הָרָ֛ע

hā·rā‘

､ הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

this ､

– וַיִּתְאַבָּ֑לוּ

way·yiṯ·’ab·bā·lū;

and they mourned –

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

and no

שָׁ֛תוּ

šā·ṯū

אִ֥ישׁ

’îš

עֶדְי֖וֹ

‘eḏ·yōw

. עָלָֽיו׃

‘ā·lāw.

on .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ מֹשֶׁ֗ה

mō·šeh,

אֱמֹ֤ר

’ĕ·mōr

אֶל־

’el-

to

בְּנֵֽי־

bə·nê-

the sons

､ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

yiś·rā·’êl

of Israel ､

אַתֶּ֣ם

’at·tem

עַם־

‘am-

קְשֵׁה־

qə·šêh-

. עֹ֔רֶף

‘ō·rep̄,

רֶ֧גַע

re·ḡa‘

In

אֶחָ֛ד

’e·ḥāḏ

אֶֽעֱלֶ֥ה

’e·‘ĕ·leh

I could come up

בְקִרְבְּךָ֖

ḇə·qir·bə·ḵā

into your midst

. וְכִלִּיתִ֑יךָ

wə·ḵil·lî·ṯî·ḵā;

and consume you .

וְעַתָּ֗ה

wə·‘at·tāh,

הוֹרֵ֤ד

hō·w·rêḏ

עֶדְיְךָ֙

‘eḏ·yə·ḵā

מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ

mê·‘ā·le·ḵā,

､ וְאֵדְעָ֖ה

wə·’ê·ḏə·‘āh

that I may know ､

מָ֥ה

māh

אֶֽעֱשֶׂה־

’e·‘ĕ·śeh-

to do

. לָּֽךְ׃

lāḵ.

to you .

וַיִּֽתְנַצְּל֧וּ

way·yiṯ·naṣ·ṣə·lū

So stripped themselves

בְנֵֽי־

ḇə·nê-

the sons

יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל

yiś·rā·’êl

אֶת־

’eṯ-

of

､ עֶדְיָ֖ם

‘eḏ·yām

their ornaments ､

מֵהַ֥ר

mê·har

. חוֹרֵֽב׃

ḥō·w·rêḇ.

､ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה

the camp ､

הַרְחֵק֙

har·ḥêq

מִן־

min-

､ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה

ham·ma·ḥă·neh,

the camp ､

וְקָ֥רָא

wə·qā·rā

ל֖וֹ

lōw

it

אֹ֣הֶל

’ō·hel

. מוֹעֵ֑ד

mō·w·‘êḏ;

､ וְהָיָה֙

wə·hā·yāh

And it came to pass [that] ､

כָּל־

kāl-

מְבַקֵּ֣שׁ

mə·ḇaq·qêš

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

יֵצֵא֙

yê·ṣê

אֶל־

’el-

to

אֹ֣הֶל

’ō·hel

､ מוֹעֵ֔ד

mō·w·‘êḏ,

of meeting ､

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

מִח֥וּץ

mi·ḥūṣ

. לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

lam·ma·ḥă·neh.

the camp .

､ וְהָיָ֗ה

wə·hā·yāh,

So it was ､

כְּצֵ֤את

kə·ṣêṯ

[that] whenever went out

מֹשֶׁה֙

mō·šeh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הָאֹ֔הֶל

hā·’ō·hel,

the tabernacle ､

יָק֙וּמוּ֙

yā·qū·mū

כָּל־

kāl-

､ הָעָ֔ם

hā·‘ām,

the people ､

וְנִ֨צְּב֔וּ

wə·niṣ·ṣə·ḇū,

and stood [at]

אִ֖ישׁ

’îš

פֶּ֣תַח

pe·ṯaḥ

､ אָהֳל֑וֹ

’ā·ho·lōw;

וְהִבִּ֙יטוּ֙

wə·hib·bî·ṭū

אַחֲרֵ֣י

’a·ḥă·rê

the back

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

of Moses ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

בֹּא֖וֹ

bō·’ōw

he had gone into

. הָאֹֽהֱלָה׃

hā·’ō·hĕ·lāh.

the tabernacle .

､ וְהָיָ֗ה

wə·hā·yāh,

And it came to pass ､

כְּבֹ֤א

kə·ḇō

that when entered

מֹשֶׁה֙

mō·šeh

､ הָאֹ֔הֱלָה

hā·’ō·hĕ·lāh,

the tabernacle ､

､ יֵרֵד֙

yê·rêḏ

עַמּ֣וּד

‘am·mūḏ

､ הֶֽעָנָ֔ן

he·‘ā·nān,

of the cloud ､

וְעָמַ֖ד

wə·‘ā·maḏ

פֶּ֣תַח

pe·ṯaḥ

[at] the door

､ הָאֹ֑הֶל

hā·’ō·hel;

of the tabernacle ､

וְדִבֶּ֖ר

wə·ḏib·ber

and [the Lord] talked

עִם־

‘im-

with

. מֹשֶֽׁה׃

mō·šeh.

וְרָאָ֤ה

wə·rā·’āh

And saw

כָל־

ḵāl

הָעָם֙

hā·‘ām

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

עַמּ֣וּד

‘am·mūḏ

הֶֽעָנָ֔ן

he·‘ā·nān,

of the cloud

עֹמֵ֖ד

‘ō·mêḏ

פֶּ֣תַח

pe·ṯaḥ

– הָאֹ֑הֶל

hā·’ō·hel;

the tabernacle –

וְקָ֤ם

wə·qām

and rose

כָּל־

kāl-

הָעָם֙

hā·‘ām

､ וְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֔וּ‪‬

wə·hiš·ta·ḥăw·wū,

and worshiped ､

אִ֖ישׁ

’îš

פֶּ֥תַח

pe·ṯaḥ

. אָהֳלֽוֹ׃

’ā·ho·lōw.

[in] his tent .

וְדִבֶּ֨ר

wə·ḏib·ber

יְהוָ֤ה

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

מֹשֶׁה֙

mō·šeh

פָּנִ֣ים

pā·nîm

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ פָּנִ֔ים

pā·nîm,

face ､

כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

יְדַבֵּ֥ר

yə·ḏab·bêr

אִ֖ישׁ

’îš

אֶל־

’el-

to

. רֵעֵ֑הוּ

rê·‘ê·hū;

וְשָׁב֙

wə·šāḇ

And he would return

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה

ham·ma·ḥă·neh,

the camp ､

וּמְשָׁ֨רְת֜וֹ

ū·mə·šā·rə·ṯōw

but his servant

､ יְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַ

yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘

בִּן־

bin-

､ נוּן֙

nūn

of Nun ､

､ נַ֔עַר

na·‘ar,

a young man ､

לֹ֥א

lō

not

יָמִ֖ישׁ

yā·mîš

מִתּ֥וֹךְ

mit·tō·wḵ

. הָאֹֽהֶל׃

hā·’ō·hel.

the tabernacle .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

And said

מֹשֶׁ֜ה

mō·šeh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

､ רְ֠אֵה

See ､

אַתָּ֞ה

’at·tāh

אֹמֵ֤ר

’ō·mêr

､ אֵלַי֙

’ê·lay

to me ､

הַ֚עַל

ha·‘al

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָעָ֣ם

hā·‘ām

– הַזֶּ֔ה

haz·zeh,

this –

וְאַתָּה֙

wə·’at·tāh

but You

לֹ֣א

lō

not

הֽוֹדַעְתַּ֔נִי

hō·w·ḏa‘·ta·nî,

have let me know

אֵ֥ת

’êṯ

-

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

תִּשְׁלַ֖ח

tiš·laḥ

. עִמִּ֑י

‘im·mî;

with me .

וְאַתָּ֤ה

wə·’at·tāh

､ אָמַ֙רְתָּ֙

’ā·mar·tā

יְדַעְתִּ֣יךָֽ

yə·ḏa‘·tî·ḵā

､ בְשֵׁ֔ם

ḇə·šêm,

by name ､

וְגַם־

wə·ḡam-

and also

מָצָ֥אתָ

mā·ṣā·ṯā

חֵ֖ן

ḥên

. בְּעֵינָֽי׃

bə·‘ê·nāy.

in My sight .

וְעַתָּ֡ה

wə·‘at·tāh

､ אִם־

’im-

if ､

､ נָא֩

nā

I pray ､

מָצָ֨אתִי

mā·ṣā·ṯî

חֵ֜ן

ḥên

､ בְּעֵינֶ֗יךָ

bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā,

in Your sight ､

הוֹדִעֵ֤נִי

hō·w·ḏi·‘ê·nî

נָא֙

nā

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ דְּרָכֶ֔ךָ

də·rā·ḵe·ḵā,

､ וְאֵדָ֣עֲךָ֔

wə·’ê·ḏā·‘ă·ḵā,

that I may know You ､

לְמַ֥עַן

lə·ma·‘an

אֶמְצָא־

’em·ṣā-

חֵ֖ן

ḥên

. בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ

bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā;

in Your sight .

וּרְאֵ֕ה

ū·rə·’êh

כִּ֥י

kî

עַמְּךָ֖

‘am·mə·ḵā

הַגּ֥וֹי

hag·gō·w

. הַזֶּֽה׃

haz·zeh.

､ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

way·yō·mar;

And He said ､

פָּנַ֥י

pā·nay

יֵלֵ֖כוּ

yê·lê·ḵū

will go [with you]

וַהֲנִחֹ֥תִי

wa·hă·ni·ḥō·ṯî

and I will give rest

. לָֽךְ׃

lāḵ.

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said

אֵלָ֑יו

’ê·lāw;

to Him

אִם־

’im-

if

אֵ֤ין

’ên

not

פָּנֶ֙יךָ֙

pā·ne·ḵā

､ הֹלְכִ֔ים

hō·lə·ḵîm,

does go [with us] ､

אַֽל־

’al-

not

תַּעֲלֵ֖נוּ

ta·‘ă·lê·nū

do bring us up

. מִזֶּֽה׃

miz·zeh.

from this [place] .

וּבַמֶּ֣ה ׀

ū·ḇam·meh

For by what [then]

יִוָּדַ֣ע

yiw·wā·ḏa‘

will it be known

אֵפ֗וֹא

’ê·p̄ō·w,

כִּֽי־

kî-

מָצָ֨אתִי

mā·ṣā·ṯî

חֵ֤ן

ḥên

､ בְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙

bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā

in Your sight ､

אֲנִ֣י

’ă·nî

I

؟ וְעַמֶּ֔ךָ

wə·‘am·me·ḵā,

and Your people ؟

הֲל֖וֹא

hă·lō·w

בְּלֶכְתְּךָ֣

bə·leḵ·tə·ḵā

You go

､ עִמָּ֑נוּ

‘im·mā·nū;

with us ､

וְנִפְלֵ֙ינוּ֙‪‬

wə·nip̄·lê·nū

so we shall be separate

אֲנִ֣י

’ă·nî

I

､ וְעַמְּךָ֔

wə·‘am·mə·ḵā,

and Your people ､

מִכָּ֨ל־

mik·kāl

הָעָ֔ם

hā·‘ām,

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

עַל־

‘al-

פְּנֵ֥י

pə·nê

the face

؟ הָאֲדָמָֽה׃

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh.

of the earth ؟

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

גַּ֣ם

הַדָּבָ֥ר

had·dā·ḇār

הַזֶּ֛ה

haz·zeh

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

– דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ

dib·bar·tā

you have spoken –

אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֑ה

’e·‘ĕ·śeh;

I will do

כִּֽי־

kî-

מָצָ֤אתָ

mā·ṣā·ṯā

חֵן֙

ḥên

､ בְּעֵינַ֔י

bə·‘ê·nay,

in My sight ､

וָאֵדָעֲךָ֖

wā·’ê·ḏā·‘ă·ḵā

and I know you

. בְּשֵֽׁם׃

bə·šêm.

by name .

､ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

way·yō·mar;

And he said ､

הַרְאֵ֥נִי

har·’ê·nî

､ נָ֖א

nā

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

. כְּבֹדֶֽךָ׃

kə·ḇō·ḏe·ḵā.

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

And He said ､

אֲנִ֨י

’ă·nî

I

אַעֲבִ֤יר

’a·‘ă·ḇîr

כָּל־

kāl-

טוּבִי֙

ṭū·ḇî

עַל־

‘al-

､ פָּנֶ֔יךָ

pā·ne·ḵā,

you ､

וְקָרָ֧אתִֽי

wə·qā·rā·ṯî

and I will proclaim

בְשֵׁ֛ם

ḇə·šêm

the name

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

､ לְפָנֶ֑יךָ

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā;

וְחַנֹּתִי֙

wə·ḥan·nō·ṯî

and I will be gracious

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ אָחֹ֔ן

’ā·ḥōn,

I will be gracious ､

וְרִחַמְתִּ֖י

wə·ri·ḥam·tî

and I will have compassion

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. אֲרַחֵֽם׃

’ă·ra·ḥêm.

I will have compassion .

､ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר

way·yō·mer

But He said ､

לֹ֥א

lō

תוּכַ֖ל

ṯū·ḵal

לִרְאֹ֣ת

lir·’ōṯ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ פָּנָ֑י

pā·nāy;

My face ､

כִּ֛י

kî

לֹֽא־

lō-

no

יִרְאַ֥נִי

yir·’a·nî

､ הָאָדָ֖ם

hā·’ā·ḏām

man ､

. וָחָֽי׃

wā·ḥāy.

and live .

､ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said ､

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

､ הִנֵּ֥ה

hin·nêh

Here is ､

מָק֖וֹם

mā·qō·wm

､ אִתִּ֑י

’it·tî;

by Me ､

וְנִצַּבְתָּ֖

wə·niṣ·ṣaḇ·tā

and you shall stand

עַל־

‘al-

on

– הַצּֽוּר׃

haṣ·ṣūr.

the rock –

､ וְהָיָה֙

wə·hā·yāh

so it shall be ､

בַּעֲבֹ֣ר

ba·‘ă·ḇōr

while passes by

､ כְּבֹדִ֔י

kə·ḇō·ḏî,

My glory ､

וְשַׂמְתִּ֖יךָ

wə·śam·tî·ḵā

that I will put you

בְּנִקְרַ֣ת

bə·niq·raṯ

in the cleft

､ הַצּ֑וּר

haṣ·ṣūr;

of the rock ､

וְשַׂכֹּתִ֥י

wə·śak·kō·ṯî

and will cover

､ כַפִּ֛י

ḵap·pî

with My hand ､

עָלֶ֖יךָ

‘ā·le·ḵā

עַד־

‘aḏ-

– עָבְרִֽי׃

‘ā·ḇə·rî.

I pass by –

וַהֲסִרֹתִי֙

wa·hă·si·rō·ṯî

and I will take away

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ כַּפִּ֔י

kap·pî,

My hand ､

וְרָאִ֖יתָ

wə·rā·’î·ṯā

and you shall see

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ אֲחֹרָ֑י

’ă·ḥō·rāy;

My back ､

וּפָנַ֖י

ū·p̄ā·nay

but My face

לֹ֥א

lō

not

. יֵרָאֽוּ׃

yê·rā·’ū.

shall be seen .
