And lifted up

וַתָּבֵ֣א

wat·tā·ḇê

אֹ֠תִי

’ō·ṯî

me

אֶל־

’el-

to

שַׁ֨עַר

ša·‘ar

､ בֵּית־

bêṯ-

of the house ､

יְהוָ֤ה

Yah·weh

הַקַּדְמוֹנִי֙

haq·qaḏ·mō·w·nî

the East

הַפּוֹנֶ֣ה

hap·pō·w·neh

– קָדִ֔ימָה

qā·ḏî·māh,

וְהִנֵּה֙

wə·hin·nêh

בְּפֶ֣תַח

bə·p̄e·ṯaḥ

at the door

הַשַּׁ֔עַר

haš·ša·‘ar,

of the gate

עֶשְׂרִ֥ים

‘eś·rîm

וַחֲמִשָּׁ֖ה

wa·ḥă·miš·šāh

and five

– אִ֑ישׁ

’îš;

men –

וָאֶרְאֶ֨ה

wā·’er·’eh

and I saw

בְתוֹכָ֜ם

ḇə·ṯō·w·ḵām

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יַאֲזַנְיָ֧ה

ya·’ă·zan·yāh

בֶן־

ḇen-

､ עַזֻּ֛ר

‘az·zur

of Azzur ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

פְּלַטְיָ֥הוּ

pə·laṭ·yā·hū

בֶן־

ḇen-

､ בְּנָיָ֖הוּ

bə·nā·yā·hū

of Benaiah ､

שָׂרֵ֖י

śā·rê

. הָעָֽם׃

hā·‘ām.

of the people .

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And He said

אֵלָ֑י

’ê·lāy;

to me

בֶּן־

ben-

､ אָדָ֕ם

’ā·ḏām

of man ､

אֵ֣לֶּה

’êl·leh

הָאֲנָשִׁ֞ים

hā·’ă·nā·šîm

the men

הַחֹשְׁבִ֥ים

ha·ḥō·šə·ḇîm

､ אָ֛וֶן

’ā·wen

וְהַיֹּעֲצִ֥ים

wə·hay·yō·‘ă·ṣîm

and give

עֲצַת־

‘ă·ṣaṯ-

רָ֖ע

rā‘

､ בָּעִ֥יר

bā·‘îr

in city ､

. הַזֹּֽאת׃

haz·zōṯ.

､ הָאֹ֣מְרִ֔ים

hā·’ō·mə·rîm,

לֹ֥א

lō

not

– בְקָר֖וֹב

ḇə·qā·rō·wḇ

[The time is] near –

בְּנ֣וֹת

bə·nō·wṯ

؟ בָּתִּ֑ים

bāt·tîm;

הִ֣יא

hî

､ הַסִּ֔יר

has·sîr,

the caldron ､

וַאֲנַ֖חְנוּ

wa·’ă·naḥ·nū

and we [are]

. הַבָּשָֽׂר׃

hab·bā·śār.

the meat .

לָכֵ֖ן

lā·ḵên

הִנָּבֵ֣א

hin·nā·ḇê

עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם

‘ă·lê·hem;

､ הִנָּבֵ֖א

hin·nā·ḇê

בֶּן־

ben-

. אָדָֽם׃

’ā·ḏām.

of man .

וַתִּפֹּ֣ל

wat·tip·pōl

And fell

עָלַי֮

‘ā·lay

ר֣וּחַ

rū·aḥ

יְהוָה֒

Yah·weh

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

אֵלַ֗י

’ê·lay,

to me

– אֱמֹר֙

’ĕ·mōr

כֹּה־

kōh-

אָמַ֣ר

’ā·mar

– יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

כֵּ֥ן

kên

､ אֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם

’ă·mar·tem

you have said ､

בֵּ֣ית

bêṯ

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

yiś·rā·’êl;

of Israel ､

וּמַעֲל֥וֹת

ū·ma·‘ă·lō·wṯ

and the [things] that come into

､ רֽוּחֲכֶ֖ם

rū·ḥă·ḵem

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

. יְדַעְתִּֽיהָ׃

yə·ḏa‘·tî·hā.

הִרְבֵּיתֶ֥ם

hir·bê·ṯem

You have multiplied

חַלְלֵיכֶ֖ם

ḥal·lê·ḵem

､ בָּעִ֣יר

bā·‘îr

in city ､

הַזֹּ֑את

haz·zōṯ;

וּמִלֵּאתֶ֥ם

ū·mil·lê·ṯem

and you have filled

חוּצֹתֶ֖יהָ

ḥū·ṣō·ṯe·hā

. חָלָֽל׃

ḥā·lāl.

with the slain .

lā·ḵên,

כֹּֽה־

kōh-

אָמַר֮

’ā·mar

אֲדֹנָ֣י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

– יְהוִה֒

Yah·weh

GOD –

חַלְלֵיכֶם֙

ḥal·lê·ḵem

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

שַׂמְתֶּ֣ם

śam·tem

בְּתוֹכָ֔הּ

bə·ṯō·w·ḵāh,

הֵ֥מָּה

hêm·māh

､ הַבָּשָׂ֖ר

hab·bā·śār

the meat ､

וְהִ֣יא

wə·hî

– הַסִּ֑יר

has·sîr;

the caldron –

וְאֶתְכֶ֖ם

wə·’eṯ·ḵem

but you

הוֹצִ֥יא

hō·w·ṣî

. מִתּוֹכָֽהּ׃

mit·tō·w·ḵāh.

out of the midst of it .

– חֶ֖רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

The sword –

יְרֵאתֶ֑ם

yə·rê·ṯem;

You have feared

וְחֶ֙רֶב֙

wə·ḥe·reḇ

and a sword

אָבִ֣יא

’ā·ḇî

I will bring

עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם

‘ă·lê·ḵem,

נְאֻ֖ם

nə·’um

אֲדֹנָ֥י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

. יְהוִֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וְהוֹצֵאתִ֤י

wə·hō·w·ṣê·ṯî

And I will bring

אֶתְכֶם֙

’eṯ·ḵem

מִתּוֹכָ֔הּ

mit·tō·w·ḵāh,

out of its midst

וְנָתַתִּ֥י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

אֶתְכֶ֖ם

’eṯ·ḵem

בְּיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

､ זָרִ֑ים

zā·rîm;

of strangers ､

וְעָשִׂ֛יתִי

wə·‘ā·śî·ṯî

בָכֶ֖ם

ḇā·ḵem

on you

. שְׁפָטִֽים׃

šə·p̄ā·ṭîm.

– בַּחֶ֣רֶב

ba·ḥe·reḇ

By the sword –

תִּפֹּ֔לוּ

tip·pō·lū,

עַל־

‘al-

at

גְּב֥וּל

gə·ḇūl

– יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

of Israel –

אֶשְׁפּ֣וֹט

’eš·pō·wṭ

I will judge

אֶתְכֶ֑ם

’eṯ·ḵem;

וִֽידַעְתֶּ֖ם

wî·ḏa‘·tem

then you shall know

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I [am]

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

הִ֗יא

hî,

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

תִהְיֶ֤ה

ṯih·yeh

לָכֶם֙

lā·ḵem

､ לְסִ֔יר

lə·sîr,

וְאַתֶּ֛ם

wə·’at·tem

תִּהְי֥וּ

tih·yū

בְתוֹכָ֖הּ

ḇə·ṯō·w·ḵāh

לְבָשָׂ֑ר

lə·ḇā·śār;

the meat

אֶל־

’el-

at

גְּב֥וּל

gə·ḇūl

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

אֶשְׁפֹּ֥ט

’eš·pōṭ

I will judge

. אֶתְכֶֽם׃

’eṯ·ḵem.

וִֽידַעְתֶּם֙

wî·ḏa‘·tem

And you shall know

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֲנִ֣י

’ă·nî

I [am]

– יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

’ă·šer

､ בְּחֻקַּי֙

bə·ḥuq·qay

in My statutes ､

לֹ֣א

lō

not

הֲלַכְתֶּ֔ם

hă·laḵ·tem,

you have walked

､ וּמִשְׁפָּטַ֖י

ū·miš·pā·ṭay

and My judgments ､

לֹ֣א

lō

עֲשִׂיתֶ֑ם

‘ă·śî·ṯem;

וּֽכְמִשְׁפְּטֵ֧י

ū·ḵə·miš·pə·ṭê

but according to the customs

הַגּוֹיִ֛ם

hag·gō·w·yim

of the Gentiles

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

סְבִיבוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם

sə·ḇî·ḇō·w·ṯê·ḵem

. עֲשִׂיתֶֽם׃

‘ă·śî·ṯem.

A Promise of Restoration

､ וַֽיְהִי֙

way·hî

And it came to pass ､

､ כְּהִנָּ֣בְאִ֔י

kə·hin·nā·ḇə·’î,

while I was prophesying ､

וּפְלַטְיָ֥הוּ

ū·p̄ə·laṭ·yā·hū

בֶן־

ḇen-

בְּנָיָ֖ה

bə·nā·yāh

. מֵ֑ת

mêṯ;

וָאֶפֹּ֨ל

wā·’ep·pōl

And I fell

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ פָּנַ֜י

pā·nay

my face ､

וָאֶזְעַ֣ק

wā·’ez·‘aq

､ קוֹל־

qō·wl-

with a voice ､

גָּד֗וֹל

gā·ḏō·wl,

､ וָאֹמַר֙

wā·’ō·mar

and said ､

אֲהָהּ֙

’ă·hāh

Ah

אֲדֹנָ֣י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

! יְהוִ֔ה

Yah·weh,

כָּלָה֙

kā·lāh

אַתָּ֣ה

’at·tāh

עֹשֶׂ֔ה

‘ō·śeh,

will make

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

שְׁאֵרִ֥ית

šə·’ê·rîṯ

of the remnant

؟ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.

of Israel ؟

way·hî

דְבַר־

ḏə·ḇar-

the word

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

אֵלַ֥י

’ê·lay

to me

､ לֵאמֹֽר׃

lê·mōr.

בֶּן־

ben-

､ אָדָ֗ם

’ā·ḏām,

of man ､

אַחֶ֤יךָ

’a·ḥe·ḵā

､ אַחֶ֙יךָ֙

’a·ḥe·ḵā

your relatives ､

אַנְשֵׁ֣י

’an·šê

the men

､ גְאֻלָּתֶ֔ךָ

ḡə·’ul·lā·ṯe·ḵā,

your countrymen ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

בֵּ֥ית

bêṯ

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

､ כֻּלֹּ֑ה

kul·lōh;

in its entirety ､

אֲשֶׁר֩

’ă·šer

､ אָמְר֨וּ

’ā·mə·rū

לָהֶ֜ם

lā·hem

יֹשְׁבֵ֣י

yō·šə·ḇê

the inhabitants

יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם

yə·rū·šā·lim,

רַֽחֲקוּ֙

ra·ḥă·qū

מֵעַ֣ל

mê·‘al

– יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

לָ֥נוּ

lā·nū

to us

הִ֛יא

hî

נִתְּנָ֥ה

nit·tə·nāh

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

. לְמוֹרָשָֽׁה׃

lə·mō·w·rā·šāh.

as a possession .

say ､

אָמַר֮

the Lord

– יְהוִה֒

Yah·weh

GOD –

כִּ֤י

kî

הִרְחַקְתִּים֙

hir·ḥaq·tîm

I have cast them far off

､ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם

bag·gō·w·yim,

among the Gentiles ､

וְכִ֥י

wə·ḵî

הֲפִֽיצוֹתִ֖ים

hă·p̄î·ṣō·w·ṯîm

I have scattered them

､ בָּאֲרָצ֑וֹת

bā·’ă·rā·ṣō·wṯ;

among the countries ､

וָאֱהִ֤י

wā·’ĕ·hî

and yet I shall be

לָהֶם֙

lā·hem

לְמִקְדָּ֣שׁ

lə·miq·dāš

מְעַ֔ט

mə·‘aṭ,

בָּאֲרָצ֖וֹת

bā·’ă·rā·ṣō·wṯ

in the countries

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

בָּ֥אוּ

bā·’ū

. שָֽׁם׃

šām.

say ､

the Lord

Yah·weh

וְקִבַּצְתִּ֤י

wə·qib·baṣ·tî

and I will gather

אֶתְכֶם֙

’eṯ·ḵem

מִן־

min-

､ הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים

hā·‘am·mîm,

the peoples ､

וְאָסַפְתִּ֣י

wə·’ā·sap̄·tî

אֶתְכֶ֔ם

’eṯ·ḵem,

מִן־

min-

הָ֣אֲרָצ֔וֹת

hā·’ă·rā·ṣō·wṯ,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

､ נְפֹצוֹתֶ֖ם

nə·p̄ō·ṣō·w·ṯem

you have been scattered ､

בָּהֶ֑ם

bā·hem;

in

וְנָתַתִּ֥י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

and I will give

לָכֶ֖ם

lā·ḵem

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אַדְמַ֥ת

’aḏ·maṯ

the land

. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.

וּבָ֖אוּ־

ū·ḇā·’ū-

And they will go

､ שָׁ֑מָּה

šām·māh;

וְהֵסִ֜ירוּ

wə·hê·sî·rū

and they will take away

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כָּל־

kāl-

שִׁקּוּצֶ֛יהָ

šiq·qū·ṣe·hā

its detestable things

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

כָּל־

kāl-

תּוֹעֲבוֹתֶ֖יהָ

tō·w·‘ă·ḇō·w·ṯe·hā

its abominations

. מִמֶּֽנָּה׃

mim·men·nāh.

וְנָתַתִּ֤י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

And I will give

לָהֶם֙

lā·hem

､ לֵ֣ב

lêḇ

אֶחָ֔ד

’e·ḥāḏ,

וְר֥וּחַ

wə·rū·aḥ

and a spirit

חֲדָשָׁ֖ה

ḥă·ḏā·šāh

אֶתֵּ֣ן

’et·tên

I will put

בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֑ם

bə·qir·bə·ḵem;

וַהֲסִ֨רֹתִ֜י

wa·hă·si·rō·ṯî

and take

לֵ֤ב

lêḇ

הָאֶ֙בֶן֙

hā·’e·ḇen

､ מִבְּשָׂרָ֔ם

mib·bə·śā·rām,

out of their flesh ､

וְנָתַתִּ֥י

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

and give

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

לֵ֥ב

lêḇ

､ בָּשָֽׂר׃

bā·śār.

of flesh ､

לְמַ֙עַן֙

lə·ma·‘an

､ בְּחֻקֹּתַ֣י

bə·ḥuq·qō·ṯay

in My statutes ､

יֵלֵ֔כוּ

yê·lê·ḵū,

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ מִשְׁפָּטַ֥י

miš·pā·ṭay

My judgments ､

יִשְׁמְר֖וּ

yiš·mə·rū

וְעָשׂ֣וּ

wə·‘ā·śū

and do

אֹתָ֑ם

’ō·ṯām;

וְהָיוּ־

wə·hā·yū-

and they shall be

לִ֣י

lî

My

､ לְעָ֔ם

lə·‘ām,

וַאֲנִ֕י

wa·’ă·nî

and I

אֶהְיֶ֥ה

’eh·yeh

will be

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

. לֵאלֹהִֽים׃

lê·lō·hîm.

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

But

לֵ֧ב

lêḇ

שִׁקּוּצֵיהֶ֛ם

šiq·qū·ṣê·hem

their detestable things

､ וְתוֹעֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֖ם

wə·ṯō·w·‘ă·ḇō·w·ṯê·hem

and their abominations ､

לִבָּ֣ם

lib·bām

[as for those] whose hearts

הֹלֵ֑ךְ

hō·lêḵ;

דַּרְכָּם֙

dar·kām

､ בְּרֹאשָׁ֣ם

bə·rō·šām

on their own heads ､

נָתַ֔תִּי

nā·ṯat·tî,

I will recompense

נְאֻ֖ם

nə·’um

אֲדֹנָ֥י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

. יְהוִֽה׃

Yah·weh.

God's Glory Leaves Jerusalem

וַיִּשְׂא֤וּ

way·yiś·’ū

So lifted up

הַכְּרוּבִים֙

hak·kə·rū·ḇîm

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ כַּנְפֵיהֶ֔ם

kan·p̄ê·hem,

their wings ､

וְהָאֽוֹפַנִּ֖ים

wə·hā·’ō·w·p̄an·nîm

and the with wheels

לְעֻמָּתָ֑ם

lə·‘um·mā·ṯām;

וּכְב֧וֹד

ū·ḵə·ḇō·wḏ

and the glory

אֱלֹהֵֽי־

’ĕ·lō·hê-

of the God

יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל

yiś·rā·’êl

עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם

‘ă·lê·hem

[was] above them

. מִלְמָֽעְלָה׃

mil·mā·‘ə·lāh.

וַיַּ֙עַל֙

way·ya·‘al

And went up

כְּב֣וֹד

kə·ḇō·wḏ

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

מֵעַ֖ל

mê·‘al

תּ֣וֹךְ

tō·wḵ

､ הָעִ֑יר

hā·‘îr;

of the city ､

וַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙

way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ

עַל־

‘al-

on

הָהָ֔ר

hā·hār,

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

which [is]

מִקֶּ֥דֶם

miq·qe·ḏem

on the east side

. לָעִֽיר׃

lā·‘îr.

of the city .

וְר֣וּחַ

wə·rū·aḥ

And the Spirit

､ נְשָׂאַ֗תְנִי

nə·śā·’aṯ·nî,

took me up ､

וַתְּבִיאֵ֤נִי

wat·tə·ḇî·’ê·nî

and brought me

､ כַשְׂדִּ֙ימָה֙

ḵaś·dî·māh

into Chaldea ､

אֶל־

’el-

to

. הַגּוֹלָ֔ה

hag·gō·w·lāh,

those in captivity .

בַּמַּרְאֶ֖ה

bam·mar·’eh

בְּר֣וּחַ

bə·rū·aḥ

by the Spirit

אֱלֹהִ֑ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm;

of God

וַיַּ֙עַל֙

way·ya·‘al

and went up

מֵֽעָלַ֔י

mê·‘ā·lay,

הַמַּרְאֶ֖ה

ham·mar·’eh

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. רָאִֽיתִי׃

rā·’î·ṯî.

וָאֲדַבֵּ֖ר

wā·’ă·ḏab·bêr

So I spoke

אֶל־

’el-

to

הַגּוֹלָ֑ה

hag·gō·w·lāh;

those in captivity

אֵ֛ת

’êṯ

-

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

דִּבְרֵ֥י

diḇ·rê

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. הֶרְאָֽנִי׃

her·’ā·nî.
