saying ､

of man ､
ח֥וּד
ḥūḏ
､ חִידָ֖ה
ḥî·ḏāh
a riddle ､
וּמְשֹׁ֣ל
ū·mə·šōl
and speak
מָשָׁ֑ל
mā·šāl;
אֶל־
’el-
to
בֵּ֖ית
bêṯ
the house
– יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
yiś·rā·’êl.
of Israel –

､ וְאָמַרְתָּ֞
wə·’ā·mar·tā
and say ､
כֹּה־
kōh-
אָמַ֣ר ׀
’ā·mar
אֲדֹנָ֣י
’ă·ḏō·nāy
the Lord
– יְהוִ֗ה
Yah·weh
GOD –
הַנֶּ֤שֶׁר
han·ne·šer
הַגָּדוֹל֙
hag·gā·ḏō·wl
גְּד֤וֹל
gə·ḏō·wl
with large
､ הַכְּנָפַ֙יִם֙
hak·kə·nā·p̄a·yim
wings ､
אֶ֣רֶךְ
’e·reḵ
and long
הָאֵ֔בֶר
hā·’ê·ḇer,
מָלֵא֙
mā·lê
､ הַנּוֹצָ֔ה
han·nō·w·ṣāh,
of feathers ､
אֲשֶׁר־
’ă·šer-
of
ל֖וֹ
lōw
to
､ הָֽרִקְמָ֑ה
hā·riq·māh;
בָּ֚א
bā
אֶל־
’el-
to
､ הַלְּבָנ֔וֹן
hal·lə·ḇā·nō·wn,
וַיִּקַּ֖ח

and took

צַמֶּ֥רֶת

. הָאָֽרֶז׃

the from cedar .

and carried it
אֶל־
’el-
to
אֶ֣רֶץ
’e·reṣ
– כְּנַ֔עַן
kə·na·‘an,
of trade –
בְּעִ֥יר
bə·‘îr
in a city
רֹכְלִ֖ים
rō·ḵə·lîm
. שָׂמֽוֹ׃
śā·mōw.
He set it .

וַיִּקַּח֙
way·yiq·qaḥ
And He took
מִזֶּ֣רַע
miz·ze·ra‘
some of the seed
､ הָאָ֔רֶץ
hā·’ā·reṣ,
of the land ､
וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖הוּ
way·yit·tə·nê·hū
and planted it
– בִּשְׂדֵה־
biś·ḏêh-
in a field –
זָ֑רַע
zā·ra‘;
קָ֚ח
qāḥ
he placed [it]
עַל־
‘al-
by
､ מַ֣יִם
ma·yim
waters ､
רַבִּ֔ים
rab·bîm,
צַפְצָפָ֖ה
ṣap̄·ṣā·p̄āh
. שָׂמֽוֹ׃
śā·mōw.
[And] set it .

､ וַיִּצְמַ֡ח
way·yiṣ·maḥ
And it grew ､
וַיְהִי֩
way·hî
and became
לְגֶ֨פֶן
lə·ḡe·p̄en
סֹרַ֜חַת
sō·ra·ḥaṯ
שִׁפְלַ֣ת
šip̄·laṯ
of low
､ קוֹמָ֗ה
qō·w·māh,
לִפְנ֤וֹת
lip̄·nō·wṯ
דָּלִיּוֹתָיו֙
dā·lî·yō·w·ṯāw
אֵלָ֔יו
’ê·lāw,
וְשָׁרָשָׁ֖יו
wə·šā·rā·šāw
תַּחְתָּ֣יו
taḥ·tāw
יִֽהְי֑וּ
yih·yū;
וַתְּהִ֣י
wat·tə·hî
so it became
､ לְגֶ֔פֶן
lə·ḡe·p̄en,
a vine ､
וַתַּ֣עַשׂ
wat·ta·‘aś
､ בַּדִּ֔ים
bad·dîm,
וַתְּשַׁלַּ֖ח
wat·tə·šal·laḥ
. פֹּארֽוֹת׃
pō·rō·wṯ.

וַיְהִ֤י

נֶֽשֶׁר־

אֶחָד֙
’e·ḥāḏ
גָּד֔וֹל
gā·ḏō·wl,
גְּד֥וֹל

with large
כְּנָפַ֖יִם
kə·nā·p̄a·yim
וְרַב־
wə·raḇ-
and many
– נוֹצָ֑ה
nō·w·ṣāh;
､ וְהִנֵּה֩
wə·hin·nêh
and behold ､
הַגֶּ֨פֶן
hag·ge·p̄en
הַזֹּ֜את
haz·zōṯ
כָּֽפְנָ֧ה
kā·p̄ə·nāh
שָׁרֳשֶׁ֣יהָ
šā·ro·še·hā
עָלָ֗יו
‘ā·lāw,
וְדָֽלִיּוֹתָיו֙
wə·ḏā·lî·yō·w·ṯāw
שִׁלְחָה־
šil·ḥāh-
לּ֔וֹ
lōw,
לְהַשְׁק֣וֹת
lə·haš·qō·wṯ
אוֹתָ֔הּ
’ō·w·ṯāh,
it
מֵעֲרֻג֖וֹת
mê·‘ă·ru·ḡō·wṯ
. מַטָּעָֽהּ׃
maṭ·ṭā·‘āh.

וְלָשֵׂ֣את

and bear
､ פֶּ֔רִי
pe·rî,
fruit ､
לִהְי֖וֹת
lih·yō·wṯ
[And] become
לְגֶ֥פֶן
lə·ḡe·p̄en
. אַדָּֽרֶת׃
’ad·dā·reṯ.
of glory .

will it thrive ؟
הֲלוֹא֩

will not

שָׁרָשֶׁ֨יהָ
šā·rā·še·hā
יְנַתֵּ֜ק
yə·nat·têq
he pull up
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
פִּרְיָ֣הּ ׀
pir·yāh
יְקוֹסֵ֣ס
yə·qō·w·sês
؟ וְיָבֵ֗שׁ
wə·yā·ḇêš,
and leave it to wither ؟
כָּל־
kāl-
all of
טַרְפֵּ֤י
ṭar·pê
､ צִמְחָהּ֙
ṣim·ḥāh
תִּיבָ֔שׁ
tî·ḇāš,
will wither
וְלֹֽא־
wə·lō-
and no
בִזְרֹ֤עַ
ḇiz·rō·a‘
גְּדוֹלָה֙
gə·ḏō·w·lāh
וּבְעַם־
ū·ḇə·‘am-
רָ֔ב
rāḇ,
לְמַשְׂא֥וֹת
lə·maś·’ō·wṯ
will be needed to pluck up
אוֹתָ֖הּ
’ō·w·ṯāh
it
. מִשָּׁרָשֶֽׁיהָ׃
miš·šā·rā·še·hā.
by its roots .

､ וְהִנֵּ֥ה
wə·hin·nêh
And behold ､
､ שְׁתוּלָ֖ה
šə·ṯū·lāh
[it] [is] planted ､
؟ הֲתִצְלָ֑ח
hă·ṯiṣ·lāḥ;
will it thrive ؟
הֲלוֹא֩
hă·lō·w
will not
כְגַ֨עַת
ḵə·ḡa·‘aṯ
בָּ֜הּ
bāh
it
ר֤וּחַ

הַקָּדִים֙

the east
תִּיבַ֣שׁ

the king

to Jerusalem ､
וַיִּקַּ֤ח
way·yiq·qaḥ
and took
אֶת־
’eṯ-

מַלְכָּהּ֙
mal·kāh
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
שָׂרֶ֔יהָ
śā·re·hā,
וַיָּבֵ֥א
way·yā·ḇê
and led
אוֹתָ֛ם
’ō·w·ṯām
אֵלָ֖יו
’ê·lāw
with him
– בָּבֶֽלָה׃
bā·ḇe·lāh.
to Babylon –

וַיִּקַּח֙
way·yiq·qaḥ
and he took
､ מִזֶּ֣רַע
miz·ze·ra‘
הַמְּלוּכָ֔ה
ham·mə·lū·ḵāh,
of the king
וַיִּכְרֹ֥ת
way·yiḵ·rōṯ
and made
אִתּ֖וֹ
’it·tōw
with him
בְּרִ֑ית
bə·rîṯ;
וַיָּבֵ֤א
way·yā·ḇê
and put
אֹתוֹ֙
’ō·ṯōw
בְּאָלָ֔ה
bə·’ā·lāh,
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and also
אֵילֵ֥י
’ê·lê
the mighty
､ הָאָ֖רֶץ
hā·’ā·reṣ
of the land ､
. לָקָֽח׃
lā·qāḥ.
He took away .

לִֽהְיוֹת֙

מַמְלָכָ֣ה
mam·lā·ḵāh
､ שְׁפָלָ֔ה
šə·p̄ā·lāh,
לְבִלְתִּ֖י
lə·ḇil·tî
not
､ הִתְנַשֵּׂ֑א
hiṯ·naś·śê;
and lift itself up ､
לִשְׁמֹ֥ר
liš·mōr
[but] that by keeping
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
בְּרִית֖וֹ
bə·rî·ṯōw
. לְעָמְדָֽהּ׃
lə·‘ā·mə·ḏāh.

וַיִּמְרָד־
way·yim·rāḏ-
But he rebelled
בּ֗וֹ
bōw,
לִשְׁלֹ֤חַ
liš·lō·aḥ
מַלְאָכָיו֙
mal·’ā·ḵāw
､ מִצְרַ֔יִם
miṣ·ra·yim,
to Egypt ､
לָֽתֶת־
lā·ṯeṯ-
ל֥וֹ
lōw
סוּסִ֖ים
sū·sîm
. וְעַם־
wə·‘am-
and people .
רָ֑ב
rāḇ;
؟ הֲיִצְלָ֤ח
hă·yiṣ·lāḥ
will he prosper ؟
הֲיִמָּלֵט֙
hă·yim·mā·lêṭ
will he escape
הָעֹשֵׂ֣ה
hā·‘ō·śêh
אֵ֔לֶּה
’êl·leh,
וְהֵפֵ֥ר
wə·hê·p̄êr
and can he break
､ בְּרִ֖ית
bə·rîṯ
a covenant ､
؟ וְנִמְלָֽט׃
wə·nim·lāṭ.
and still be delivered ؟

live ､
אָ֗נִי

[As] I
נְאֻם֮

אֲדֹנָ֣י

the Lord
יְהוִה֒

לֹ֗א
lō,

בִּמְקוֹם֙

in the place
הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙
ham·me·leḵ
the [where] king [dwells]
הַמַּמְלִ֣יךְ
ham·mam·lîḵ
אֹת֔וֹ
’ō·ṯōw,
אֲשֶׁ֤ר
’ă·šer
､ בָּזָה֙
bā·zāh
he despised ､
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
אָ֣לָת֔וֹ
’ā·lā·ṯōw,
וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר
wa·’ă·šer
and whose
､ הֵפֵ֖ר
hê·p̄êr
he broke ､
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
בְּרִית֑וֹ
bə·rî·ṯōw;
אִתּ֥וֹ
’it·tōw
with him
בְתוֹךְ־
ḇə·ṯō·wḵ-
in the midst
בָּבֶ֖ל

. יָמֽוּת׃

he shall die .

And nor
בְחַ֨יִל

with [his] army
גָּד֜וֹל

וּבְקָהָ֣ל

רָ֗ב
rāḇ,
יַעֲשֶׂ֨ה
ya·‘ă·śeh
will do anything
אוֹת֤וֹ
’ō·w·ṯōw
-
פַרְעֹה֙
p̄ar·‘ōh
､ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה
bam·mil·ḥā·māh,
in the war ､
בִּשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ
biš·pōḵ
､ סֹלְלָ֖ה
sō·lə·lāh
a siege mound ､
וּבִבְנ֣וֹת
ū·ḇiḇ·nō·wṯ
and build
､ דָּיֵ֑ק
dā·yêq;
a wall ､
לְהַכְרִ֖ית
lə·haḵ·rîṯ
to cut off
נְפָשׁ֥וֹת
nə·p̄ā·šō·wṯ
. רַבּֽוֹת׃
rab·bō·wṯ.

the oath
לְהָפֵ֣ר

､ בְּרִ֑ית
bə·rîṯ;
the covenant ､
､ וְהִנֵּ֨ה

and in fact ､
נָתַ֥ן
nā·ṯan
､ יָד֛וֹ
yā·ḏōw
his hand ､
וְכָל־
wə·ḵāl
and all
אֵ֥לֶּה
’êl·leh
עָשָׂ֖ה

. יִמָּלֵֽט׃

My oath
אֲשֶׁ֣ר

､ בָּזָ֔ה
bā·zāh,
he despised ､
וּבְרִיתִ֖י
ū·ḇə·rî·ṯî
and My covenant
אֲשֶׁ֣ר
’ă·šer
הֵפִ֑יר
hê·p̄îr;
וּנְתַתִּ֖יו
ū·nə·ṯat·tîw
and I will recompense
. בְּרֹאשֽׁוֹ׃
bə·rō·šōw.
on his own head .

וּפָרַשְׂתִּ֤י
ū·p̄ā·raś·tî
And I will spread
עָלָיו֙
‘ā·lāw
רִשְׁתִּ֔י
riš·tî,
My net
וְנִתְפַּ֖שׂ
wə·niṯ·paś
and he shall be taken
､ בִּמְצֽוּדָתִ֑י
bim·ṣū·ḏā·ṯî;
in My snare ､
וַהֲבִיאוֹתִ֣יהוּ
wa·hă·ḇî·’ō·w·ṯî·hū
and I will bring him
､ בָבֶ֗לָה
ḇā·ḇe·lāh,
to Babylon ､
וְנִשְׁפַּטְתִּ֤י
wə·niš·paṭ·tî
and try
אִתּוֹ֙
’it·tōw
שָׁ֔ם
šām,
מַעֲל֖וֹ
ma·‘ă·lōw
אֲשֶׁ֥ר
’ă·šer
מָֽעַל־
mā·‘al-
. בִּֽי׃
bî.
against Me .

וְאֵ֨ת
wə·’êṯ
And
כָּל־
kāl-
[מברחו]
miḇ·rā·ḥōw
-
(מִבְרָחָ֤יו)
miḇ·rā·ḥāw
בְּכָל־
bə·ḵāl
with all
אֲגַפָּיו֙
’ă·ḡap·pāw
､ בַּחֶ֣רֶב
ba·ḥe·reḇ
by the sword ､
יִפֹּ֔לוּ
yip·pō·lū,
וְהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֖ים
wə·han·niš·’ā·rîm
לְכָל־
lə·ḵāl
– ר֣וּחַ
rū·aḥ
wind –
יִפָּרֵ֑שׂוּ
yip·pā·rê·śū;
וִידַעְתֶּ֕ם
wî·ḏa‘·tem
כִּ֛י

אֲנִ֥י

I
יְהוָ֖ה

. דִּבַּֽרְתִּי׃

and will take

I
מִצַּמֶּ֧רֶת
miṣ·ṣam·me·reṯ
､ הָאֶ֛רֶז
hā·’e·rez
of the cedar ､
הָרָמָ֖ה
hā·rā·māh
וְנָתָ֑תִּי
wə·nā·ṯāt·tî;
and set [it] out
מֵרֹ֤אשׁ
mê·rōš
יֹֽנְקוֹתָיו֙
yō·nə·qō·w·ṯāw
､ רַ֣ךְ
raḵ
a tender one ､
אֶקְטֹ֔ף
’eq·ṭōp̄,
will crop off
וְשָׁתַ֣לְתִּי
wə·šā·ṯal·tî
and will plant [it]
אָ֔נִי
’ā·nî,
I
עַ֥ל
‘al
on
הַר־
har-
גָּבֹ֖הַ
gā·ḇō·ha
– וְתָלֽוּל׃
wə·ṯā·lūl.
and prominent –

בְּהַ֨ר

On the mountain
מְר֤וֹם
mə·rō·wm
יִשְׂרָאֵל֙
yiś·rā·’êl
אֶשְׁתֳּלֶ֔נּוּ
’eš·to·len·nū,
I will plant it
וְנָשָׂ֤א
wə·nā·śā
and it will bring forth
､ עָנָף֙
‘ā·nāp̄
boughs ､
וְעָ֣שָׂה
wə·‘ā·śāh
and bear
､ פֶ֔רִי
p̄e·rî,
fruit ､
וְהָיָ֖ה
wə·hā·yāh
and be
. לְאֶ֣רֶז
lə·’e·rez
a cedar .
אַדִּ֑יר
’ad·dîr;
וְשָׁכְנ֣וּ
wə·šā·ḵə·nū
and will dwell
תַחְתָּ֗יו
ṯaḥ·tāw,
כֹּ֚ל
kōl
צִפּ֣וֹר
ṣip·pō·wr
כָּל־
kāl-
– כָּנָ֔ף
kā·nāp̄,
sort –
בְּצֵ֥ל
bə·ṣêl
in the shadow
דָּלִיּוֹתָ֖יו
dā·lî·yō·w·ṯāw
. תִּשְׁכֹּֽנָּה׃
tiš·kōn·nāh.
they will dwell .

וְֽיָדְע֞וּ

כָּל־

עֲצֵ֣י
‘ă·ṣê
the trees
הַשָּׂדֶ֗ה
haś·śā·ḏeh,
of the field
כִּ֣י
kî
אֲנִ֤י
’ă·nî
I
יְהוָה֙

הִשְׁפַּ֣לְתִּי ׀
hiš·pal·tî
､ עֵ֣ץ
‘êṣ
the tree ､
גָּבֹ֗הַ
gā·ḇō·ha,
הִגְבַּ֙הְתִּי֙
hiḡ·bah·tî
､ עֵ֣ץ
‘êṣ
the tree ､
שָׁפָ֔ל
šā·p̄āl,
הוֹבַ֙שְׁתִּי֙

. וְהִפְרַ֖חְתִּי

The tree
