Ezekiel's Call

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And He said

אֵלָ֑י

’ê·lāy;

to me

בֶּן־

ben-

､ אָדָם֙

’ā·ḏām

of man ､

עֲמֹ֣ד

‘ă·mōḏ

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ רַגְלֶ֔יךָ

raḡ·le·ḵā,

וַאֲדַבֵּ֖ר

wa·’ă·ḏab·bêr

and I will speak

. אֹתָֽךְ׃

’ō·ṯāḵ.

to you .

וַתָּ֧בֹא

wat·tā·ḇō

בִ֣י

ḇî

me

ר֗וּחַ

rū·aḥ,

כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙

ka·’ă·šer

דִּבֶּ֣ר

dib·ber

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

וַתַּעֲמִדֵ֖נִי

wat·ta·‘ă·mi·ḏê·nî

and set me

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ רַגְלָ֑י

raḡ·lāy;

my feet ､

וָאֶשְׁמַ֕ע

wā·’eš·ma‘

and I heard

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

מִדַּבֵּ֥ר

mid·dab·bêr

. אֵלָֽי׃

’ê·lāy.

to me .

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And He said

אֵלַ֗י

’ê·lay,

to me

בֶּן־

ben-

､ אָדָם֙

’ā·ḏām

of man ､

שׁוֹלֵ֨חַ

šō·w·lê·aḥ

אֲנִ֤י

’ă·nî

I

אֽוֹתְךָ֙

’ō·wṯ·ḵā

אֶל־

’el-

to

בְּנֵ֣י

bə·nê

the sons

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel ､

אֶל־

’el-

to

גּוֹיִ֥ם

gō·w·yim

הַמּוֹרְדִ֖ים

ham·mō·wr·ḏîm

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

מָרְדוּ־

mā·rə·ḏū-

בִ֑י

ḇî;

הֵ֤מָּה

hêm·māh

וַאֲבוֹתָם֙

wa·’ă·ḇō·w·ṯām

and their fathers

פָּ֣שְׁעוּ

pā·šə·‘ū

have transgressed

בִ֔י

ḇî,

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

עֶ֖צֶם

‘e·ṣem

הַיּ֥וֹם

hay·yō·wm

. הַזֶּֽה׃

haz·zeh.

וְהַבָּנִ֗ים

wə·hab·bā·nîm,

For [they are] children

קְשֵׁ֤י

qə·šê

פָנִים֙

p̄ā·nîm

וְחִזְקֵי־

wə·ḥiz·qê-

. לֵ֔ב

lêḇ,

of heart .

אֲנִ֛י

’ă·nî

I

שׁוֹלֵ֥חַ

šō·w·lê·aḥ

אוֹתְךָ֖

’ō·wṯ·ḵā

אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם

’ă·lê·hem;

וְאָמַרְתָּ֣

wə·’ā·mar·tā

and you shall say

אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם

’ă·lê·hem,

כֹּ֥ה

kōh

אָמַ֖ר

’ā·mar

אֲדֹנָ֥י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

. יְהֹוִֽה׃

Yah·weh.

､ וְהֵ֙מָּה֙

wə·hêm·māh

And they ､

אִם־

’im-

､ יִשְׁמְע֣וּ

yiš·mə·‘ū

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

､ יֶחְדָּ֔לוּ

yeḥ·dā·lū,

they refuse ､

כִּ֛י

kî

בֵּ֥ית

bêṯ

מְרִ֖י

mə·rî

הֵ֑מָּה

hêm·māh;

וְיָ֣דְע֔וּ

wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū,

and yet they will know

כִּ֥י

kî

נָבִ֖יא

nā·ḇî

הָיָ֥ה

hā·yāh

. בְתוֹכָֽם׃

ḇə·ṯō·w·ḵām.

､ וְאַתָּ֣ה

wə·’at·tāh

And you ､

בֶן־

ḇen-

､ אָ֠דָם

’ā·ḏām

of man ､

אַל־

’al-

not

תִּירָ֨א

tî·rā

do be afraid

מֵהֶ֜ם

mê·hem

､ וּמִדִּבְרֵיהֶ֣ם

ū·mid·diḇ·rê·hem

and of their words ､

אַל־

’al-

תִּירָ֗א

tî·rā,

כִּ֣י

kî

סָרָבִ֤ים

sā·rā·ḇîm

וְסַלּוֹנִים֙

wə·sal·lō·w·nîm

and thorns [are]

אוֹתָ֔ךְ

’ō·w·ṯāḵ,

with you

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

– עַקְרַבִּ֖ים

‘aq·rab·bîm

אַתָּ֣ה

’at·tāh

יוֹשֵׁ֑ב

yō·wō·šêḇ;

､ מִדִּבְרֵיהֶ֤ם

mid·diḇ·rê·hem

of their words ､

אַל־

’al-

not

תִּירָא֙

tî·rā

do be afraid

､ וּמִפְּנֵיהֶ֣ם

ū·mip·pə·nê·hem

or by their looks ､

אַל־

’al-

תֵּחָ֔ת

tê·ḥāṯ,

כִּ֛י

kî

בֵּ֥ית

bêṯ

מְרִ֖י

mə·rî

. הֵֽמָּה׃

hêm·māh.

וְדִבַּרְתָּ֤

wə·ḏib·bar·tā

And You shall speak

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

דְּבָרַי֙

də·ḇā·ray

אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם

’ă·lê·hem,

אִֽם־

’im-

､ יִשְׁמְע֖וּ

yiš·mə·‘ū

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

– יֶחְדָּ֑לוּ

yeḥ·dā·lū;

they refuse –

כִּ֥י

kî

מְרִ֖י

mə·rî

. הֵֽמָּה׃

hêm·māh.

､ וְאַתָּ֣ה

wə·’at·tāh

But you ､

בֶן־

ḇen-

､ אָדָ֗ם

’ā·ḏām,

of man ､

שְׁמַע֙

šə·ma‘

אֵ֤ת

’êṯ

-

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

אֲנִי֙

’ă·nî

I

מְדַבֵּ֣ר

mə·ḏab·bêr

אֵלֶ֔יךָ

’ê·le·ḵā,

to you

אַל־

’al-

not

תְּהִי־

tə·hî-

do be

מֶ֖רִי

me·rî

. כְּבֵ֣ית

kə·ḇêṯ

הַמֶּ֑רִי

ham·me·rî;

פְּצֵ֣ה

pə·ṣêh

､ פִ֔יךָ

p̄î·ḵā,

וֶאֱכֹ֕ל

we·’ĕ·ḵōl

and eat

אֵ֥ת

’êṯ

-

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

אֲנִ֖י

’ă·nî

I

נֹתֵ֥ן

nō·ṯên

. אֵלֶֽיךָ׃

’ê·le·ḵā.

､ וָאֶרְאֶ֕ה

wā·’er·’eh

And when I looked ､

､ וְהִנֵּה־

wə·hin·nêh-

and there was ､

יָ֖ד

yāḏ

שְׁלוּחָ֣ה

šə·lū·ḥāh

אֵלָ֑י

’ê·lāy;

to me

､ וְהִנֵּה־

wə·hin·nêh-

and behold ､

ב֖וֹ

ḇōw

[was] in it

מְגִלַּת־

mə·ḡil·laṯ-

. סֵֽפֶר׃

sê·p̄er.

of a book .

וַיִּפְרֹ֤שׂ

way·yip̄·rōś

And He spread

אוֹתָהּ֙

’ō·w·ṯāh

it

לְפָנַ֔י

lə·p̄ā·nay,

וְהִ֥יא

wə·hî

and was

כְתוּבָ֖ה

ḵə·ṯū·ḇāh

פָּנִ֣ים

pā·nîm

on the inside

､ וְאָח֑וֹר

wə·’ā·ḥō·wr;

and on the outside ､

וְכָת֣וּב

wə·ḵā·ṯūḇ

אֵלֶ֔יהָ

’ê·le·hā,

on it

､ קִנִ֥ים

qi·nîm

[were] lamentations ､

､ וָהֶ֖גֶה

wā·he·ḡeh

and mourning ､

. וָהִֽי׃

wā·hî.

and woe .
