according to his folly ､

כְ֭סִיל

יִהְיֶ֖ה

שֹׁתֶ֑ה

šō·ṯeh;

[and] drinks

שֹׁלֵ֖חַ

דְּבָרִ֣ים

בְּיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

by the hand

. כְּסִֽיל׃

kə·sîl.

of a fool .

– דַּלְי֣וּ

dal·yū

That hang limp –

שֹׁ֭קַיִם

qa·yim

[Like] the legs

מִפִּסֵּ֑חַ

mip·pis·sê·aḥ;

of the lame

וּ֝מָשָׁ֗ל

ū·mā·šāl,

and [Is] a proverb

בְּפִ֣י

bə·p̄î

in the mouth

. כְסִילִֽים׃

ḵə·sî·lîm.

of fools .

כִּצְר֣וֹר

kiṣ·rō·wr

Like one who binds

אֶ֭בֶן

’e·ḇen

､ בְּמַרְגֵּמָ֑ה

bə·mar·gê·māh;

in a sling ､

כֵּן־

kên-

So

נוֹתֵ֖ן

nō·w·ṯên

[Is] he who gives

לִכְסִ֣יל

liḵ·sîl

to a fool

. כָּבֽוֹד׃

kā·ḇō·wḏ.

ח֭וֹחַ

ḥō·w·aḥ

עָלָ֣ה

‘ā·lāh

בְיַד־

ḇə·yaḏ-

､ שִׁכּ֑וֹר

šik·kō·wr;

of a drunkard ､

וּ֝מָשָׁ֗ל

ū·mā·šāl,

and [Is] a proverb

בְּפִ֣י

bə·p̄î

in the mouth

. כְסִילִֽים׃

ḵə·sî·lîm.

of fools .

רַ֥ב

The great [God]

מְחֽוֹלֵֽל־

כֹּ֑ל

וְשֹׂכֵ֥ר

and Gives [his] hire

､ כְּ֝סִ֗יל

kə·sîl,

the fool ､

וְשֹׂכֵ֥ר

wə·śō·ḵêr

and [his] wages

. עֹבְרִֽים׃

‘ō·ḇə·rîm.

the transgressor .

כְּ֭כֶלֶב

kə·ḵe·leḇ

As a dog

שָׁ֣ב

šāḇ

עַל־

‘al-

to

､ קֵא֑וֹ

qê·’ōw;

his own vomit ､

כְּ֝סִ֗יל

kə·sîl,

שׁוֹנֶ֥ה

šō·w·neh

. בְאִוַּלְתּֽוֹ׃

ḇə·’iw·wal·tōw.

רָאִ֗יתָ

rā·’î·ṯā,

אִ֭ישׁ

’îš

חָכָ֣ם

ḥā·ḵām

؟ בְּעֵינָ֑יו

bə·‘ê·nāw;

in his own eyes ؟

תִּקְוָ֖ה

tiq·wāh

[There is] more hope

לִכְסִ֣יל

liḵ·sîl

. מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

mim·men·nū.

､ אָמַ֣ר

’ā·mar

Says ､

עָ֭צֵל

‘ā·ṣêl

the lazy [man]

שַׁ֣חַל

ša·ḥal

[There is] a lion

– בַּדָּ֑רֶךְ

bad·dā·reḵ;

in the road –

אֲ֝רִ֗י

’ă·rî,

a fierce lion [is]

בֵּ֣ין

. הָרְחֹבֽוֹת׃

hā·rə·ḥō·ḇō·wṯ.

הַ֭דֶּלֶת

had·de·leṯ

תִּסּ֣וֹב

tis·sō·wḇ

[As] turns

עַל־

‘al-

､ צִירָ֑הּ

ṣî·rāh;

וְ֝עָצֵ֗ל

wə·‘ā·ṣêl,

so [does] the lazy [man]

. מִטָּתֽוֹ׃

miṭ·ṭā·ṯōw.

טָ֘מַ֤ן

עָצֵ֣ל

the lazy [man]

יָ֭דוֹ

– בַּצַּלָּ֑חַת

baṣ·ṣal·lā·ḥaṯ;

in the bowl –

נִ֝לְאָ֗ה

לַֽהֲשִׁיבָ֥הּ

la·hă·šî·ḇāh

to bring it back

the lazy [man]

. בְּאָזְנֵי־

by the ears .

כָ֑לֶב

､ עֹבֵ֥ר

He who passes by ､

מִ֝תְעַבֵּ֗ר

miṯ·‘ab·bêr,

עַל־

‘al-

in

רִ֥יב

rîḇ

לֹּֽא־

lō-

not

. לֽוֹ׃

lōw.

כְּֽ֭מִתְלַהְלֵהַּ

kə·miṯ·lah·lê·ah

הַיֹּרֶ֥ה

hay·yō·reh

､ זִקִּ֗ים

ziq·qîm,

､ חִצִּ֥ים

ḥiṣ·ṣîm

､ וָמָֽוֶת׃

wā·mā·weṯ.

and death ､

כֵּֽן־

So

אִ֭ישׁ

’îš

[Is] the man

רִמָּ֣ה

rim·māh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ רֵעֵ֑הוּ

rê·‘ê·hū;

his neighbor ､

､ וְ֝אָמַ֗ר

wə·’ā·mar,

and says ､

הֲ‍ֽלֹא־

hălō-

not

מְשַׂחֵ֥ק

mə·śa·ḥêq

was only joking

؟ אָֽנִי׃

’ā·nî.

I ؟

בְּאֶ֣פֶס

bə·’e·p̄es

where [there is] no

עֵ֭צִים

‘ê·ṣîm

– תִּכְבֶּה־

tiḵ·beh-

אֵ֑שׁ

’êš;

the fire

וּבְאֵ֥ין

ū·ḇə·’ên

and where [there is] no

､ נִ֝רְגָּ֗ן

nir·gān,

יִשְׁתֹּ֥ק

yiš·tōq

. מָדֽוֹן׃

mā·ḏō·wn.

פֶּחָ֣ם

pe·ḥām

[As] charcoal [is]

､ לְ֭גֶחָלִים

lə·ḡe·ḥā·lîm

to burning coals ､

וְעֵצִ֣ים

wə·‘ê·ṣîm

and wood

– לְאֵ֑שׁ

lə·’êš;

to fire –

וְאִ֥ישׁ

wə·’îš

so [is] a man

[מדונים]

mi·ḏō·w·nîm

-

(מִ֝דְיָנִ֗ים)

miḏ·yā·nîm,

לְחַרְחַר־

lə·ḥar·ḥar-

. רִֽיב׃

of a talebearer

､ כְּמִֽתְלַהֲמִ֑ים

kə·miṯ·la·hă·mîm;

[are] like tasty trifles ､

וְ֝הֵ֗ם

wə·hêm,

and they

יָרְד֥וּ

yā·rə·ḏū

חַדְרֵי־

ḥaḏ·rê-

into the inmost

. בָֽטֶן׃

ḇā·ṭen.

כֶּ֣סֶף

ke·sep̄

. סִ֭יגִים

sî·ḡîm

מְצֻפֶּ֣ה

mə·ṣup·peh

עַל־

‘al-

חָ֑רֶשׂ

ḥā·reś;

שְׂפָתַ֖יִם

śə·p̄ā·ṯa·yim

דֹּלְקִ֣ים

dō·lə·qîm

וְלֶב־

wə·leḇ-

and with a heart

. רָֽע׃

rā‘.

[בשפתו]

､ (בִּ֭שְׂפָתָיו)

With his lips ､

יִנָּכֵ֣ר

yin·nā·ḵêr

שׂוֹנֵ֑א

śō·w·nê;

וּ֝בְקִרְבּ֗וֹ

ū·ḇə·qir·bōw,

and within himself

יָשִׁ֥ית

yā·šîṯ

. מִרְמָֽה׃

mir·māh.

כִּֽי־

kî-

､ יְחַנֵּ֣ן

yə·ḥan·nên

ק֭וֹלוֹ

qō·w·lōw

– אַל־

’al-

not –

תַּֽאֲמֶן־

ta·’ă·men-

בּ֑וֹ

bōw;

כִּ֤י

שֶׁ֖בַע

še·ḇa‘

תּוֹעֵב֣וֹת

tō·w·‘ê·ḇō·wṯ

[there are] abominations

. בְּלִבּֽוֹ׃

bə·lib·bōw.

תִּכַּסֶּ֣ה

tik·kas·seh

שִׂ֭נְאָה

nə·’āh

[Though his] hatred

､ בְּמַשָּׁא֑וֹן

bə·maš·šā·’ō·wn;

by deceit ､

תִּגָּלֶ֖ה

tig·gā·leh

will be revealed

רָעָת֣וֹ

rā·‘ā·ṯōw

. בְקָהָֽל׃

ḇə·qā·hāl.

before the assembly .

כֹּֽרֶה־

kō·re·hō·ša-

שַּׁ֭חַת

ḥaṯ

בָּ֣הּ

bāh

יִפֹּ֑ל

yip·pōl;

will fall

וְגֹ֥לֵ֥ל

wə·ḡō·lêl

and he who rolls

､ אֶ֝בֶן

’e·ḇen

a stone ､

אֵלָ֥יו

’ê·lāw

on him

. תָּשֽׁוּב׃

tā·šūḇ.

will have it roll back .

לְֽשׁוֹן־

lə·šō·w·nō·še-

שֶׁ֭קֶר
