הֲלֹֽא־

Does not

חָכְמָ֥ה

ḥāḵ·māh

؟ תִקְרָ֑א

ṯiq·rā;

וּ֝תְבוּנָ֗ה

ū·ṯə·ḇū·nāh,

and understanding

תִּתֵּ֥ן

tit·tên

؟ קוֹלָֽהּ׃

qō·w·lāh.

בְּרֹאשׁ־

bə·rōš-

on the top

､ מְרוֹמִ֥ים

mə·rō·w·mîm

of the high hill ､

עֲלֵי־

‘ă·lê-

דָ֑רֶךְ

ḏā·reḵ;

the way to

בֵּ֖ית

bêṯ

נְתִיב֣וֹת

nə·ṯî·ḇō·wṯ

the paths [meet]

. נִצָּֽבָה׃

niṣ·ṣā·ḇāh.

she takes her stand .

לְיַד־

lə·yaḏ-

By

､ שְׁעָרִ֥ים

šə·‘ā·rîm

the gates ､

לְפִי־

lə·p̄î-

at the entry

､ קָ֑רֶת

qā·reṯ;

of the city ､

מְב֖וֹא

mə·ḇō·w

at the entrance

פְתָחִ֣ים

p̄ə·ṯā·ḥîm

of the doors

. תָּרֹֽנָּה׃

tā·rōn·nāh.

she cries out .

אֲלֵיכֶ֣ם

’ă·lê·ḵem

To you

､ אִישִׁ֣ים

’î·šîm

men ､

– אֶקְרָ֑א

’eq·rā;

I call –

וְ֝קוֹלִ֗י

wə·qō·w·lî,

and my voice [is]

אֶל־

’el-

to

בְּנֵ֥י

bə·nê

the sons

. אָדָֽם׃

’ā·ḏām.

of men .

הָבִ֣ינוּ

hā·ḇî·nū

､ פְתָאיִ֣ם

p̄ə·ṯā·yim

you simple ones ､

– עָרְמָ֑ה

‘ā·rə·māh;

､ וּ֝כְסִילִ֗ים

ū·ḵə·sî·lîm,

and you fools ､

הָבִ֥ינוּ

hā·ḇî·nū

be of an understanding

. לֵֽב׃

lêḇ.

– שִׁ֭מְעוּ

mə·‘ū

כִּֽי־

kî-

– נְגִידִ֣ים

nə·ḡî·ḏîm

excellent things –

אֲדַבֵּ֑ר

’ă·ḏab·bêr;

I will speak

וּמִפְתַּ֥ח

ū·mip̄·taḥ

and from the opening

שְׂ֝פָתַ֗י

p̄ā·ṯay,

of my lips

. מֵישָׁרִֽים׃

mê·šā·rîm.

[will come] right things .

כִּֽי־

kî-

– אֱ֭מֶת

’ĕ·meṯ

יֶהְגֶּ֣ה

yeh·geh

will speak

חִכִּ֑י

ḥik·kî;

וְתוֹעֲבַ֖ת

wə·ṯō·w·‘ă·ḇaṯ

and an abomination to

שְׂפָתַ֣י

śə·p̄ā·ṯay

. רֶֽשַׁע׃

re·ša‘.

Wickedness [is] .

– בְּצֶ֥דֶק

bə·ṣe·ḏeq

With righteousness –

כָּל־

kāl-

אִמְרֵי־

’im·rê-

פִ֑י

p̄î;

of my mouth

אֵ֥ין

’ên

בָּ֝הֶ֗ם

bā·hem,

נִפְתָּ֥ל

nip̄·tāl

. וְעִקֵּֽשׁ׃

wə·‘iq·qêš.

כֻּלָּ֣ם

kul·lām

נְ֭כֹחִים

nə·ḵō·ḥîm

､ לַמֵּבִ֑ין

lam·mê·ḇîn;

to him who understands ､

וִֽ֝ישָׁרִ֗ים

wî·šā·rîm,

לְמֹ֣צְאֵי

lə·mō·ṣə·’ê

to those who find

. דָֽעַת׃

ḏā·‘aṯ.

קְחֽוּ־

qə·ḥū-

､ מוּסָרִ֥י

mū·sā·rî

my instruction ､

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

and not

– כָּ֑סֶף

kā·sep̄;

וְ֝דַ֗עַת

wə·ḏa·‘aṯ,

מֵחָר֥וּץ

mê·ḥā·rūṣ

rather than gold

. נִבְחָֽר׃

niḇ·ḥār.

כִּֽי־

kî-

טוֹבָ֣ה

ṭō·w·ḇāh

חָ֭כְמָה

ḥāḵ·māh

– מִפְּנִינִ֑ים

mip·pə·nî·nîm;

than rubies –

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all the [things]

חֲ֝פָצִ֗ים

ḥă·p̄ā·ṣîm,

לֹ֣א

lō

יִֽשְׁווּ־

yiš·wū-

. בָֽהּ׃

ḇāh.

with her .

אֲ‍ֽנִי־

’ănî-

I

חָ֭כְמָה

ḥāḵ·māh

שָׁכַ֣נְתִּי

šā·ḵan·tî

､ עָרְמָ֑ה

‘ā·rə·māh;

with prudence ､

וְדַ֖עַת

wə·ḏa·‘aṯ

מְזִמּ֣וֹת

mə·zim·mō·wṯ

[and] discretion

. אֶמְצָֽא׃

’em·ṣā.

יִֽרְאַ֣ת

yir·’aṯ

The fear

יְהוָה֮

Yah·weh

שְֽׂנֹ֫את

śə·nōṯ

[is] to hate

– רָ֥ע

rā‘

evil –

､ גֵּ֘אָ֤ה

gê·’āh

､ וְגָא֨וֹן ׀

wə·ḡā·’ō·wn

and arrogance ､

､ וְדֶ֣רֶךְ

wə·ḏe·reḵ

and the way ､

רָ֭ע

rā‘

､ וּפִ֨י

ū·p̄î

and the mouth ､

תַהְפֻּכ֬וֹת

ṯah·pu·ḵō·wṯ

. שָׂנֵֽאתִי׃

śā·nê·ṯî.

I hate .

לִֽי־

lî-

עֵ֭צָה

‘ê·ṣāh

– וְתוּשִׁיָּ֑ה

wə·ṯū·šî·yāh;

and sound wisdom –

אֲנִ֥י

’ă·nî

I [am]

– בִ֝ינָ֗ה

ḇî·nāh,

understanding –

לִ֣י

lî

. גְבוּרָֽה׃

ḡə·ḇū·rāh.

בִּ֭י

bî

By me

מְלָכִ֣ים

mə·lā·ḵîm

､ יִמְלֹ֑כוּ

yim·lō·ḵū;

וְ֝רוֹזְנִ֗ים

wə·rō·wz·nîm,

יְחֹ֣קְקוּ

yə·ḥō·qə·qū

. צֶֽדֶק׃

ṣe·ḏeq.

בִּ֭י

bî

By me

שָׂרִ֣ים

śā·rîm

､ יָשֹׂ֑רוּ

yā·śō·rū;

rule ､

､ וּ֝נְדִיבִ֗ים

ū·nə·ḏî·ḇîm,

and nobles ､

כָּל־

kāl-

שֹׁ֥פְטֵי

šō·p̄ə·ṭê

. צֶֽדֶק׃

ṣe·ḏeq.

of the earth .

אֲ֭נִי

’ă·nî

I

[אהביה]

’ō·hă·ḇe·hā

-

(אֹהֲבַ֣י)

’ō·hă·ḇay

those who love me

אֵהָ֑ב

’ê·hāḇ;

וּ֝מְשַׁחֲרַ֗י

ū·mə·ša·ḥă·ray,

and those who seek me diligently

. יִמְצָאֻֽנְנִי׃

yim·ṣā·’un·nî.

will find me .

עֹֽשֶׁר־

‘ō·šer-

וְכָב֥וֹד

wə·ḵā·ḇō·wḏ

and honor [are]

אִתִּ֑י

’it·tî;

with me

ה֥וֹן

hō·wn

עָ֝תֵ֗ק

‘ā·ṯêq,

. וּצְדָקָֽה׃

ū·ṣə·ḏā·qāh.

and righteousness .

ט֣וֹב

ṭō·wḇ

פִּ֭רְיִי

pir·yî

My fruit [is]

､ מֵחָר֣וּץ

mê·ḥā·rūṣ

– וּמִפָּ֑ז

ū·mip·pāz;

and yes than fine gold –

וּ֝תְבוּאָתִ֗י

ū·ṯə·ḇū·’ā·ṯî,

and my revenue

מִכֶּ֥סֶף

mik·ke·sep̄

. נִבְחָֽר׃

niḇ·ḥār.

בְּאֹֽרַח־

bə·’ō·raḥ-

The way

､ צְדָקָ֥ה

ṣə·ḏā·qāh

of righteousness ､

אֲהַלֵּ֑ך‪‬

’ă·hal·lêḵ;

בְּ֝ת֗וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ,

in the midst

נְתִיב֥וֹת

nə·ṯî·ḇō·wṯ

of the paths

､ מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

miš·pāṭ.

of justice ､

לְהַנְחִ֖יל

lə·han·ḥîl

אֹהֲבַ֥י ׀

’ō·hă·ḇay

that I may cause those who love me

– יֵ֑שׁ

yêš;

וְאֹצְרֹ֖תֵיהֶ֣ם

wə·’ō·ṣə·rō·ṯê·hem

that their treasuries

. אֲמַלֵּֽא׃

’ă·mal·lê.

at the beginning

､ דַּרְכּ֑וֹ

of His way ､

מִפְעָלָ֣יו

mip̄·‘ā·lāw

. מֵאָֽז׃

mê·’āz.

､ מֵ֭עוֹלָם

mê·‘ō·w·lām

From everlasting ､

נִסַּ֥כְתִּי

nis·saḵ·tî

I have been established

､ מֵרֹ֗אשׁ

mê·rōš,

from the beginning ､

מִקַּדְמֵי־

miq·qaḏ·mê-

before there was ever

. אָֽרֶץ׃

’ā·reṣ.

an earth .

בְּאֵין־

bə·’ên-

When [there were] no

､ תְּהֹמ֥וֹת

tə·hō·mō·wṯ

– חוֹלָ֑לְתִּי

ḥō·w·lā·lə·tî;

I was brought forth –

בְּאֵ֥ין

bə·’ên

when [there were] no

מַ֝עְיָנ֗וֹת

ma‘·yā·nō·wṯ,

נִכְבַּדֵּי־

niḵ·bad·dê-

. מָֽיִם׃

mā·yim.

בְּטֶ֣רֶם

bə·ṭe·rem

הָרִ֣ים

hā·rîm

､ הָטְבָּ֑עוּ

hā·ṭə·bā·‘ū;

were settled ､

לִפְנֵ֖י

lip̄·nê

גְבָע֣וֹת

ḡə·ḇā·‘ō·wṯ

. חוֹלָֽלְתִּי׃

ḥō·w·lā·lə·tî.

I was brought forth .

עַד־

‘aḏ-

לֹ֣א

lō

not

עָ֭שָׂה

‘ā·śāh

､ אֶ֣רֶץ

’e·reṣ

the earth ､

､ וְחוּצ֑וֹת

wə·ḥū·ṣō·wṯ;

or the fields ､

וְ֝רֹ֗אשׁ

wə·rōš,

Or the primeval

עָפְר֥וֹת‪‬

‘ā·p̄ə·rō·wṯ

. תֵּבֵֽל׃

tê·ḇêl.

of the world .

בַּהֲכִינ֣וֹ

ba·hă·ḵî·nōw

When He prepared

､ שָׁ֭מַיִם

ma·yim

the heavens ､

､ שָׁ֣ם

šām

אָ֑נִי

’ā·nî;

I [was]

בְּח֥וּקוֹ

bə·ḥū·qōw

ח֝֗וּג

ḥūḡ,

עַל־

‘al-

on

פְּנֵ֥י

pə·nê

the face

､ תְהֽוֹם׃

ṯə·hō·wm.

of the deep ､

בְּאַמְּצ֣וֹ

bə·’am·mə·ṣōw

when He established

שְׁחָקִ֣ים

šə·ḥā·qîm

– מִמָּ֑עַל

mim·mā·‘al;

בַּ֝עֲז֗וֹז

ba·‘ă·zō·wz,

when He strengthened

עִינ֥וֹת

‘î·nō·wṯ

– תְּהוֹם׃‪‬

tə·hō·wm

of the deep –

בְּשׂ֘וּמ֤וֹ

bə·śū·mōw

when He assigned

לַיָּ֨ם ׀

lay·yām

to the sea

､ חֻקּ֗וֹ

ḥuq·qōw,

וּ֭מַיִם

ū·ma·yim

so that the waters

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יַֽעַבְרוּ־

ya·‘aḇ·rū-

would transgress

､ פִ֑יו

p̄îw;

His command ､

בְּ֝חוּק֗וֹ

bə·ḥū·qōw,

when He marked out

מ֣וֹסְדֵי

mō·ws·ḏê

the foundations

– אָֽרֶץ׃

’ā·reṣ.

of the earth –

וָֽאֶהְיֶ֥ה

wā·’eh·yeh

and I was

אֶצְל֗וֹ

’eṣ·lōw,

אָ֫מ֥וֹן

’ā·mō·wn

[as] a [master] craftsman

וָֽאֶהְיֶ֣ה

wā·’eh·yeh

and I was

､ שַׁ֭עֲשֻׁעִים

‘ă·šu·‘îm

[His] delight ､

י֤וֹם ׀

yō·wm

י֑וֹם

yō·wm;

by day

מְשַׂחֶ֖קֶת

mə·śa·ḥe·qeṯ

לְפָנָ֣יו

lə·p̄ā·nāw

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

. עֵֽת׃

‘êṯ.

- .

מְ֭שַׂחֶקֶת

mə·śa·ḥe·qeṯ

בְּתֵבֵ֣ל

bə·ṯê·ḇêl

– אַרְצ֑וֹ

’ar·ṣōw;

וְ֝שַׁעֲשֻׁעַ֗י

wə·ša·‘ă·šu·‘ay,

and my delight [was]

אֶת־

’eṯ-

with

בְּנֵ֥י

bə·nê

the sons

. אָדָֽם׃

’ā·ḏām.

of men .

וְעַתָּ֣ה

wə·‘at·tāh

､ בָ֭נִים

ḇā·nîm

[my] children ､

שִׁמְעוּ־

šim·‘ū-

לִ֑י

lî;

to me

וְ֝אַשְׁרֵ֗י

wə·’aš·rê,

for blessed [are]

דְּרָכַ֥י

də·rā·ḵay

. יִשְׁמֹֽרוּ׃

yiš·mō·rū.

[those who] keep .

שִׁמְע֖וּ

šim·‘ū

､ מוּסָ֥ר

mū·sār

instruction ､

､ וַחֲכָ֗מוּ

wa·ḥă·ḵā·mū,

and be wise ､

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

and not

. תִּפְרָֽעוּ׃

tip̄·rā·‘ū.

do disdain [it] .

אַ֥שְֽׁרֵי

’aš·rê

אָדָם֮

’ā·ḏām

the man

שֹׁמֵ֪עַֽ֫

šō·mê·a‘

לִ֥י

lî

to me

לִשְׁקֹ֣ד

liš·qōḏ

עַל־

‘al-

at

､ דַּ֭לְתֹתַי

dal·ṯō·ṯay

my gates ､

י֤וֹם ׀

yō·wm

י֑וֹם

yō·wm;

by day

לִ֝שְׁמֹ֗ר

liš·mōr,

מְזוּזֹ֥ת

mə·zū·zōṯ

at the posts

. פְּתָחָֽי׃

pə·ṯā·ḥāy.

of my doors .

כִּ֣י

kî

מֹ֭צְאִי

mō·ṣə·’î

whoever finds me

[מצאי]

mō·ṣə·’ê

-

(מָצָ֣א‪‬)

mā·ṣā

､ חַיִּ֑ים

ḥay·yîm;

life ､

וַיָּ֥פֶק

way·yā·p̄eq

רָ֝צ֗וֹן

rā·ṣō·wn,

. מֵיְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וְֽ֭חֹטְאִי

wə·ḥō·ṭə·’î

But he who sins against me

חֹמֵ֣ס

ḥō·mês

– נַפְשׁ֑וֹ

nap̄·šōw;

his own soul –

כָּל־

kāl-

מְ֝שַׂנְאַ֗י

mə·śan·’ay,

those who hate me

אָ֣הֲבוּ

’ā·hă·ḇū

. מָֽוֶת׃

mā·weṯ.
