imperfection or bodily deformity excluding men from the priesthood, and rendering animals unfit to be offered in sacrifice (Le 21:17-23; 22:19-25). The Christian church, as justified in Christ, is "without blemish" (Eph 5:27). Christ offered himself a sacrifice "without blemish," acceptable to God (1Pe 1:19).

BLEMISH, whatever renders a person or thing imperfect or uncomely. The Jewish law required the priests to be free from blemishes of person, Le 21:17-23; 22:20-24. Scandalous professors are blemishes to the church of God, 2Pe 2:13; Jude 1:12, and therefore ought to be put away from it, in the exercise of a godly discipline.
