The Bible does not contain a science of psychology in the modern sense; but there is a definite and consistent view of man's nature from the religious standpoint. This being recognized, the old dispute, whether it teaches the bipartite or the tripartite nature of man, loses its meaning, for the distinction of soul and spirit is not a division of man into soul and spirit along with his body or flesh, but a difference of point of view

I always do my best to have a clear conscience toward God and men.
They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts. Their consciences testify in support of this, and their competing thoughts either accuse or excuse them

This is a symbol for the present time, during which gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the worshiper's conscience.
how much more will the blood of the Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to serve the living God?
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts sprinkled [clean] from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.
Pray for us; for we are convinced that we have a clear conscience, wanting to conduct ourselves honorably in everything.
