a district on the east of Jodan, about 13 miles south-east of the Sea of Galilee, to which Jephthah fled from his brethren (Jg 11:3,5). It was on the northern boundary of Perea, between Syria and the land of Ammon (2Sa 10:6,8). Its modern name is Taiyibeh.
So Jephthah fled from his brothers and lived in the land of Tob. Then some lawless men joined Jephthah and traveled with him.
When the Ammonites made war with Israel, the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob.
When the Ammonites realized they had become repulsive to David, they hired 20,000 foot soldiers from the Arameans of Beth-rehob and Zobah, 1,000 men from the king of Maacah, and 12,000 men from Tob.
