In OT the term ordinarily occurs with reference to the miracles at the time of the deliverance from Egypt (Ex 7:3 etc.)

And I will make Pharaoh's heart stubborn and hard, and multiply My signs, My wonders, and miracles in the land of Egypt.
They showed His signs among them, wonders and miracles in the land of Ham (Egypt).

And a sense of awe (reverential fear) came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were performed through the apostles (the special messengers).
