This declaration of blessedness, then, does it come simply to the circumcised, or to the uncircumcised as well? For Abraham's faith--so we affirm--was placed to his credit as righteousness.

and the forefather of those circumcised persons who not only share his circumcision but follow our forefather Abraham's example in the faith he had before he was circumcised.

so that the promise should be made sure to all Abraham's true descendants; not merely to those who are righteous through the Law, but to those who are righteous through a faith like that of Abraham. Abraham's faith did not become weak [even though] he was about one hundred years old and considered his body almost dead and Sarah's womb incapable of conceiving a child.

But the statement it was credited to him was not written only for Abraham's sake,

neither, because they are Abraham's seed, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

That is, it is not the children of the body [Abrahams natural descendants] who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are counted as [Abrahams true] descendants.

I say then, Has God rejected his people It may not be. For I also am an Israelite, of Abraham's seed, of the tribe of Benjamin.
