And just as He was saying these things to them, an official came up and fell on his knees before Him, and said, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand upon her and she will come to life." And from that moment the woman was well. And Jesus, on coming to the house of the official, and on seeing the flute-players and the wailing crowd, said, "Go away, for the girl is not dead, but is sleeping." And they began to laugh in His face. But when the crowd had been driven out, He went in and took hold of her hand, and the girl got up.

And a man named Jairus, a leader of a synagogue, came up, and when he saw Jesus he flung himself at His feet and kept earnestly begging Him, saying, "My dear little daughter is at the point of death. Come, lay your hands on her, so that she may get well and live." So He went off with him, and a great crowd kept following Him, and jostling Him.read more.
Then a woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had suffered much at the hands of many doctors, and had spent all she had, and yet was not a whit benefited but rather grew worse, heard the reports about Jesus. So she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His coat, for she kept saying, "If I can only touch His clothes, I shall get well." Her hemorrhage stopped at once, and she felt in her body that she was cured. Jesus at once perceived that power had gone out of Him, and so He turned around in the crowd, and asked, "Who touched my clothes?" But the disciples kept saying to Him, "You see the crowd jostling you, and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'" Still He kept looking around to see her who had done it. So the woman, as she knew what had taken place for her, though frightened and trembling, came forward and fell on her knees before His feet, and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, "My daughter, your faith has cured you. Go in peace and be free from your disease." Even while He was saying this, people came from the house of the leader of the synagogue and said, "Your daughter is dead; why trouble the Teacher any longer?" But Jesus paid no attention to what was said, but said to the leader of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid; only keep up your faith." He let no one go with Him but Peter, James, and James's brother John. They came to the home of the leader of the synagogue, and there He saw confusion, and people weeping and wailing without restraint. And He went into the house and said to them, "Why do you continue all this confusion and crying? The little girl is not dead but is sleeping." Then they began to laugh in His face. But He drove them all out, and took the little girl's father and mother and the men with Him, and went into the room where the little girl was. Then He grasped her hand and said to her, "Talitha koum," which means, "Little girl, I tell you, get up!" And the little girl at once got up and started walking around, for she was twelve years old. And instantly they were completely dumbfounded.

Now as Jesus was returning, the crowd welcomed Him, for they were all expecting Him. Just then a man named Jairus came up, who had long been leader of the synagogue. He fell down at Jesus' feet and persisted in begging Him to come to his house, because his only daughter, about twelve years old, was dying. While He was going, the crowds of people continued to press upon Him.read more.

So He said to her, "My daughter, it is your faith that has cured you; go on in peace." While He was still speaking, someone came from the house of the leader of the synagogue and said, "Your daughter is dead; stop troubling the Teacher anymore." But Jesus heard it and said to him, "Do not be afraid; just have faith, and she will get well." When He reached the house, He let no one go in with Him but Peter, James, and John, and the child's father and mother. Now they were all weeping and wailing over her. But He said, "Stop weeping! For she is not dead but asleep." Then they began to laugh in His face, for they knew that she was dead. But He grasped her hand and called out, "My child, get up!" So her spirit returned and she got up at once, and He directed that something be given her to eat.

After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary of Magdala and the other Mary went to get a look at the tomb. Now there had been a great earthquake. For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and went and rolled the boulder back and remained sitting upon it. His appearance was as bright as lightning and his clothes as white as snow.read more.
The men on guard trembled in awe of him, and became like dead men. And the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, as He said He would do. Come, get a look at the place where He was lying. Then run and tell His disciples, 'He has risen from the dead, and is going back to Galilee ahead of you; you will see Him there.' This is my message to you."

When the Sabbath had ended, Mary of Magdala, Mary, James's mother, and Salome bought spices to go and anoint Him. It was very early, just after the sun had risen, on the first day of the week, when they went to the tomb. And they kept saying to one another, "Who will roll the boulder back from the doorway of the tomb for us?"read more.
Then they looked up and saw that the boulder had already been rolled to one side, for it was a very large one. And when they went into the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting at the right; and they were utterly astounded. But he said to them, "You must not be so astounded; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified. He has risen; He is not here. See! Here is the spot where they laid Him.

Now on the Sabbath they rested, in accordance with the commandment, but on the first day of the week at early dawn they went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had prepared. But they found the boulder rolled back from the tomb, and yet on going inside they did not find the body.read more.
And as they were being perplexed about this, two men in dazzling robes suddenly took their stand beside them. Because the women were so frightened and were turning their faces to the ground, they said to them, "Why are you looking among the dead for Him who is alive? [He is not here but has risen.] Remember what He told you while He was still in Galilee, when He said that the Son of Man had to be turned over to wicked men and crucified, but was to rise again on the third day." On the first day of the week, very early in the morning while it was still dark, Mary of Magdala went to the tomb, and she saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran away and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus tenderly loved, and said to them, "They have taken away the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have put Him." So Peter and the other disciple left the city and started for the tomb.read more.
And they both kept running, but the other disciple outran Peter and got to the tomb first. And he stooped down and peered in and saw the bandages lying on the ground, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came running up behind him, and he went inside, and saw the bandages lying on the ground, but the handkerchief which had been over His face was not lying with the bandages, but was folded up by itself in another place. So then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, went inside and saw, and he came to believe it. For they had not previously understood the Scripture which said that He must rise from the dead. So the disciples went home again. But Mary stood just outside the tomb and kept weeping. So, as she was weeping, she stooped down and peered into the tomb and saw seated there two angels in white robes, one at the head, one at the feet, where Jesus' body had lain. And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have put Him." On saying this she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" Because she supposed it was the gardener, she said to Him, "If it was you, sir, who carried Him away, tell me where you put Him, and I will remove Him." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" At once she turned and said to Him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" which means Teacher. Jesus said to her, "Stop clinging to me so, for I have not yet gone up to my Father; but go to my brothers and tell them that I am going up to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God."

Soon afterwards He chanced to go to a town called Nain, and His disciples and a great throng of people were going along with Him. As He approached the gate of the town, look, there was being carried out a dead man, his mother's only son, and she was a widow! A considerable crowd of townspeople were with her. Now when the Lord saw her, His heart was moved with pity for her, and so He said to her, "Stop weeping."read more.
Then He went up and touched the hearse and the bearers stopped; and He said, "Young man, I tell you, arise." Then the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. So awe seized them all, and they began to praise God, saying, "A great prophet has appeared among us!" and, "God has visited His people!"

Now Jesus sighed again and continued to sigh as He went to the grave. It was a cave with a stone lying over the mouth of it. Jesus said, "Slip the stone aside." The dead man's sister, Martha, said to Him, "Lord, by this time he is offensive, for he has been dead four days." Jesus said to her, "Did I not promise you that if you would believe in me, you should see the glory of God?"read more.
So they slipped the stone aside. And Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you for listening to me; yes, I knew that you always listen to me. But I have said this for the sake of the crowd that is standing by, that they may come to believe that you have sent me." On saying this, He shouted aloud, "Lazarus, come out!" Then out came the dead man, his feet and hands tied with wrappings, and his face tied up with a handkerchief. Jesus said to them, "Untie him and let him go."
