Then did they spit in his face and buffet him, and others smote him,

When he had said thus, one of the officers, who stood by, gave Jesus a blow, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

And platting a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a cane in his right-hand; and kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews.

They answered and said to him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him to thee.

And after they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

And they that were passing by reviled him, wagging their heads and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself.
