The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against his anointed. For of a truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, the Gentiles and the people of Israel, combined against thy holy child Jesus, (whom Thou hast anointed,) to do whatever thy hand and thy counsel had before determined to be done. And now, Lord, behold their threatenings; and give unto thy servants to speak thy word with all freedom, while Thou art stretching forth thy hand to heal, and while signs and wonders are done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. And considering with himself, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, who was sirnamed Mark, where many were gathered together and praying.

And the populace rose up together against them: and the officers stripped off their clothes, and ordered them to be scourged. And when they had given them many stripes, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely. Who having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.read more.
Now in the middle of the night Paul and Silas were praying and singing praises to God, and the prisoners heard them.
But Peter, putting them all out, kneeled down and prayed: and then turning to the body he said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
Now in the parts adjacent to this place was the seat of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius, who took us into his house, and entertained us three days courteously. And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery: to whom Paul went in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.
Persevere in prayer, and be watchful in it, with thanksgiving.
Rejoicing in hope, patient under affliction, persevering in prayer,
praying at all seasons with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance, and intercession for all the saints;
This then I exhort thee first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings he made for all men;
But the end of all things draws nigh: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer:
Praying at the same time for us also, that God would open to us a door of utterance, to declare the mystery of Christ, for which also I am in bonds: that I may make it manifest, as I ought. Behave yourselves wisely towards them that are without,
and for me particularly, that utterance may be given me, that I may open my mouth with freedom, to make known the mystery of the gospel: for which I am an ambassador though in chains: that I may speak boldly in behalf of it, as I ought to speak.
As for the rest, my brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run, and be glorified, as it is among you:
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
If any one see his brother commit a sin which is not unto death, let him pray for him, and God will give him life, that is for them that do not sin unto death. There is a sin unto death: and for that I do not say that he should pray. All unrighteousness indeed is sin, and yet there is a sin not unto death.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed: the fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Now I beseech you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, that ye earnestly strive together with me in prayers to God for me;
you also assisting by prayer for us, that the favor obtained for us by the prayers of many might be thankfully acknowledged by many on our account.
Every man praying or prophesying, having a veil on his head, dishonoureth Him who is his head. But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonoureth man her head; for it is even all one as if she were shaved.
Judge in yourselves, Is it decent for a woman to pray to God uncovered? Doth not even nature itself teach you, that if a man have long hair, it is a disgrace to him? but if a woman have long hair it is a glory to her; because the hair was given her as for a veil.
Wherefore, brethren, look out from among you seven men of good character, full of the holy Spirit, and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this matter: but we will constantly attend to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
For this cause we also, from the day that we heard it, cease not to pray for you, and to request that ye may be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding: that ye may walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
and your love to all the saints, cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to the knowledge of Him, and enlighten the eyes of your understanding; that ye may know, what is the hope of his calling, and how rich the glory of his inheritance in the saints;read more.
and what the exceeding greatness of his power towards us who believe, according to the energy of his mighty strength; which He exerted in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at his own right hand in heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
that He would grant you, according to his glorious riches, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit, as to the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith: and be ye rooted and grounded in love, that ye may be able, with all the saints, to comprehend what is the breadth, and length, and depth,read more.
and height, and to know the love of Christ, which surpasseth knowledge; that ye may be filled according to the abundant fulness of God.
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all discernment; that ye may try things that differ, that ye may be sincere and without offence until the day of Christ; being full of the fruits of righteousness which are through Jesus Christ unto the glory and praise of God.
We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, always in our prayers for you:
Wherefore we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in Him, according to the grace of our God, and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
