He loveth transgression that loveth a quarrel; he that maketh high his gate seeketh destruction.

Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of the great;

for better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither, than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes see.

It is not good to eat much honey; and to search into weighty matters is itself a weight.

And thou that didst say in thy heart, I will ascend into the heavens, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit upon the mount of assembly, in the recesses of the north;

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High:

Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast lifted up thyself in stature, ... and he hath set his top amidst the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height,

Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith Jehovah.

And whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and whoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.

And they said to him, Give to us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy glory.

I also have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you; and who knoweth not such things as these?

Upon his fallen trunk do all the fowl of the heavens dwell, and all the beasts of the field are upon his branches: to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, nor set their top amidst the thick boughs, and that none of them that drink water stand up in his height by himself; for they are all given over unto death in the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
