And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?
Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
What is man, that he should be clean? and he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
Therefore by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
But Israel, who followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we may be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not by works, lest any man should boast.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit;
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man who sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives to a land far off or near;
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we having escaped, remain yet, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.
They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
O Lord, righteousness belongeth to thee, but to us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.
Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?
When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. The earth and all its inhabitants are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. I said to the fools, Deal not foolishly; and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:
Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
For I say to you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God.
The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shown in the sight of the heathen.
I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not delay: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.
My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and my arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on my arm shall they trust.
Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth, glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD who exercise loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
For in this is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who from God is made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ:
For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? No; but by the law of faith.
For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern my infirmities.
And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. But may it never be that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.
But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yes doubtless, and I count all things to be loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them to be dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith:
