and he said to them, withdraw, for the maid is not dead, but asleep. and they treated him with contemptuous laughter.

then Jesus told them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
and on his knees he cried with a loud voice, "Lord, lay not this sin to their charge." and having said this, he expired.
after that, he was seen by above five hundred brethren at once: of whom the greater part remain alive to this day, but some are now dead.
let not this surprize you: for the time is coming, when all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and they that have done good, shall rise to the possession of life; and they that have done evil, shall rise to their condemnation.
at length the beggar died: and was conveyed by the angels to Abraham's bower. the rich man died too, and was buried. and being in the infernal regions of torments, he lift up his eyes, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bower.
