This is how you can recognize God's Spirit: Every spirit who acknowledges that Jesus the Messiah has become human and remains so is from God. But every spirit who does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist. You have heard that he is coming, and now he is already in the world.
We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who keep on obeying him."
For this reason I want you to be aware that no one who is speaking by God's Spirit can say, "Jesus is cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
John also testified, "I saw the Spirit coming down from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. This man, Jesus the Messiah, is the one who came by water and blood not with water only, but with water and with blood. The Spirit is the one who verifies this, because the Spirit is the truth.
The person who keeps his commandments abides in God, and God abides in him. This is how we can be sure that he remains in us: he has given us his Spirit.
For there are three witnesses in heaven the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one. And there are three witnesses on earth the Spirit, the water, and the blood and these three are one. The person who believes in the Son of God believes this testimony personally. The person who does not believe God has made him a liar by not believing the testimony that he has given about his Son.
For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
