And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and animal: on the day that I struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself. And I have taken the Levites for all the firstborn of the children of Israel.

Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

And this spoke he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
