וַיֵּ֣אָמַ֔ר

And it was told

לְמֶ֥לֶךְ

､ יְרִיח֖וֹ

of Jericho ､

､ לֵאמֹ֑ר

､ הִנֵּ֣ה

הַלַּ֛יְלָה

､ הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים

the men ､

וַֽתִּצְפְּנ֑וֹ

וַתֹּ֣אמֶר ׀

And it came to pass

､ הַשַּׁ֜עַר

the gate ､

לִסְגּ֗וֹר

lis·gō·wr,

as was being shut

､ בַּחֹ֙שֶׁךְ֙

ba·ḥō·šeḵ

when it was dark ､

וְהָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים

wə·hā·’ă·nā·šîm

– יָצָ֔אוּ

yā·ṣā·’ū,

– לֹ֣א

lō

not –

יָדַ֔עְתִּי

yā·ḏa‘·tî,

I do know

אָ֥נָה

’ā·nāh

הָלְכ֖וּ

hā·lə·ḵū

הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֑ים

hā·’ă·nā·šîm;

the men

רִדְפ֥וּ

– מַהֵ֛ר

ma·hêr

אַחֲרֵיהֶ֖ם

you may overtake them .

וְהִ֖יא

But she

הֶעֱלָ֣תַם

he·‘ĕ·lā·ṯam

had brought them up

הַגָּ֑גָה

hag·gā·ḡāh;

to the roof

וַֽתִּטְמְנֵם֙

wat·tiṭ·mə·nêm

and hidden them

､ בְּפִשְׁתֵּ֣י

bə·p̄iš·tê

with flax ､

הָעֵ֔ץ

hā·‘êṣ,

הָעֲרֻכ֥וֹת

hā·‘ă·ru·ḵō·wṯ

of which had laid in order

לָ֖הּ

lāh

עַל־

‘al-

on

. הַגָּֽג׃

hag·gāḡ.

the roof .

וְהָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים

wə·hā·’ă·nā·šîm,

And the men

רָדְפ֤וּ

אַֽחֲרֵיהֶם֙

’a·ḥă·rê·hem

דֶּ֣רֶךְ

by the road to

הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן

סָגָ֔רוּ

אַחֲרֵ֕י

כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר

as soon as

､ יָצְא֥וּ

yā·ṣə·’ū

had gone out ､

הָרֹדְפִ֖ים

hā·rō·ḏə·p̄îm

those who pursued

. אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃

’a·ḥă·rê·hem.

וְהֵ֖מָּה

wə·hêm·māh

And they

טֶ֣רֶם

ṭe·rem

､ יִשְׁכָּב֑וּן

yiš·kā·ḇūn;

וְהִ֛יא

and she

עָלְתָ֥ה

､ הַח֛וּצָה

into the street ､

דָּמ֥וֹ

his blood [shall be]

､ בְרֹאשׁ֖וֹ

ḇə·rō·šōw

on his own head ､

וַאֲנַ֣חְנוּ

wa·’ă·naḥ·nū

and we [will be]

– נְקִיִּ֑ם

nə·qî·yim;

וְ֠כֹל

wə·ḵōl

and

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

יִֽהְיֶ֤ה

yih·yeh

is

אִתָּךְ֙

’it·tāḵ

with you

､ בַּבַּ֔יִת

bab·ba·yiṯ,

in the house ､

דָּמ֣וֹ

dā·mōw

his blood [shall be]

､ בְרֹאשֵׁ֔נוּ

ḇə·rō·šê·nū,

on our head ､

אִם־

’im-

if

יָ֖ד

תִּֽהְיֶה־

tih·yeh-

. בּֽוֹ׃

on him .

וְאִם־

And if

תַּגִּ֖ידִי

אֶת־

､ דְּבָרֵ֣נוּ

business of ours ､

זֶ֑ה

וְהָיִ֣ינוּ

then we will be

נְקִיִּ֔ם

nə·qî·yim,

מִשְּׁבֻעָתֵ֖ךְ

miš·šə·ḇu·‘ā·ṯêḵ

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

. הִשְׁבַּעְתָּֽנוּ׃

hiš·ba‘·tā·nū.

you made us swear .

､ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙

wat·tō·mer

And she said ､

､ כְּדִבְרֵיכֶ֣ם

kə·ḏiḇ·rê·ḵem

According to your words ､

כֶּן־

ken-

so

. ה֔וּא

hū,

[be] it .

､ וַֽתְּשַׁלְּחֵ֖ם

wat·tə·šal·lə·ḥêm

And she sent them away ､

– וַיֵּלֵ֑כוּ

way·yê·lê·ḵū;

and they departed –

וַתִּקְשֹׁ֛ר

הַשָּׁנִ֖י

And they departed ､

וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ

and went

､ הָהָ֔רָה

to the mountain ､

וַיֵּ֤שְׁבוּ

שָׁם֙

שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת

､ יָמִ֔ים

yā·mîm,

days ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

. שָׁ֖בוּ

הָרֹדְפִ֑ים

hā·rō·ḏə·p̄îm;

וַיְבַקְשׁ֧וּ

way·ḇaq·šū

and sought [them]

הָרֹדְפִ֛ים

hā·rō·ḏə·p̄îm

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

､ הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ

had·de·reḵ

the way ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

but not

. מָצָֽאוּ׃

mā·ṣā·’ū.

did find [them] .

､ וַיָּשֻׁ֜בוּ

way·yā·šu·ḇū

So returned ､

､ מֵֽהָהָ֔ר

from the mountain ､

and crossed over ､

וַיָּבֹ֔אוּ

way·yā·ḇō·’ū,

אֶל־

’el-

to

יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ

בִּן־

וַיְסַ֨פְּרוּ־

and told

that had befallen
