Genesis 10:1 (show verse)

These are the records of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, to whom descendants were born after the flood.

Genesis 10:2 (show verse)

Japheth's descendants included Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

Genesis 10:3 (show verse)

Gomer's descendants included Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.

Genesis 10:4 (show verse)

Javan's descendants included Elisha, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim,

Genesis 10:5 (show verse)

from whom the coastal nations spread into their own lands and nations, each with their own language and family groups.

Genesis 10:6 (show verse)

Ham's descendants included Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.

Genesis 10:7 (show verse)

Cush's descendants included Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. Raamah's descendants included Sheba and Dedan.

Genesis 10:8 (show verse)

Cush fathered Nimrod, who became the first fearless leader throughout the land.

Genesis 10:9 (show verse)

He became a fearless hunter in defiance of the LORD. That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a fearless hunter in defiance of the LORD."

Genesis 10:10 (show verse)

His kingdom began in the region of Shinar with the cities of Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh.

Genesis 10:11 (show verse)

From there he went north to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, and Calah,

Genesis 10:12 (show verse)

along with Resen, which was located between Nineveh and the great city of Calah.

Genesis 10:13 (show verse)

Egypt fathered the Ludites, the Anamites, the Lehabites, the Naphtuhites,

Genesis 10:14 (show verse)

the Pathrusites, the Casluhites (from which came the Philistines), and the Caphtorites.

Genesis 10:15 (show verse)

Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn, along with the Hittites,

Genesis 10:16 (show verse)

the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,

Genesis 10:17 (show verse)

the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,

Genesis 10:18 (show verse)

the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites.

Genesis 10:19 (show verse)

Later, the Canaanite families were widely scattered. The Canaanite border extended south from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and east toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

These are Ham's descendants, listed by their families, each with their own lands, language, and family groups.

Genesis 10:21 (show verse)

Shem, Japheth's older brother, also had descendants. Shem was the father of the descendants of Eber.

Genesis 10:22 (show verse)

Shem's sons included Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.

Genesis 10:23 (show verse)

Aram's descendants included Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.

Genesis 10:24 (show verse)

Arpachshad fathered Cainan, Cainan fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber.

Genesis 10:25 (show verse)

To Eber were born two sons. One was named Peleg, because the earth was divided during his lifetime. His brother was named Joktan.

Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

Genesis 10:27 (show verse)

Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

Genesis 10:28 (show verse)

Obal, Abimael, Sheba,

Genesis 10:29 (show verse)

Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan's descendants.

Genesis 10:30 (show verse)

Their settlements extended from Mesha towards Sephar, the eastern hill country.

Genesis 10:31 (show verse)

These are Shem's descendants, listed by their families, each with their own lands, language, and family groups.

Genesis 10:32 (show verse)

These are the families of Noah's sons, according to their records, by their nations. From these people, the nations on the earth spread out after the flood.
