'Grief' in the Bible
But I have judged this with myself, not to come back to you in grief.
And I have written this very letter to you, that coming I may not have grief from those from whom I ought to have joy; trusting in you all that my joy is that of you all.
But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.
As a result, you should instead forgive and comfort him. Otherwise, this one may be overwhelmed by excessive grief.
but also by the fact that he had felt comforted on your account, and by the report which he brought of your eager affection, of your grief, and of your jealousy on my behalf, so that I rejoiced more than ever.
Now I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because your grief led to repentance. For you were grieved as God willed, so that you didn’t experience any loss from us.
For godly grief produces a repentance not to be regretted and leading to salvation, but worldly grief produces death.
Let every man do after the purpose of his heart; not giving with grief, or by force: for God takes pleasure in a ready giver.
And that when I come again, my God may put me to shame among you, and I may have grief for those who have done wrong before and have had no regret for their unclean ways, and for the evil desires of the flesh to which they have given way.
