'Scriptures' in the Bible
When they go, I will spread My net over them;I will bring them down like birds of the heavens [into Assyrian captivity].I will chastise them in accordance with the proclamation (prophecy) to their congregation.
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
Yet I tell you that not only has Elijah come, but they have also done to him whatever they chose, as the Scriptures say about him."
And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
His disciples remembered that it is written [in the Scriptures], “Zeal (love, concern) for Your house [and its honor] will consume Me.”
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Then the Jews were amazed and said, “How does He know the Scriptures, since He hasn’t been trained?”
Don't the scriptures say that the Christ is a descendant of David and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?"
They responded, “Are you also from Galilee? Search [and read the Scriptures], and see [for yourself] that no prophet comes from Galilee!”
And Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; just as it is written [in Scripture],
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
For, “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” just as it is written [in Scripture].
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
Brothers, I have applied all this to Apollos and myself for your benefit, so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what the Scriptures say. Then you will stop boasting about one person at the expense of another.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
For all who depend on the Law [seeking justification and salvation by obedience to the Law and the observance of rituals] are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed (condemned to destruction) is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, so as to practice them.”
Christ purchased our freedom and redeemed us from the curse of the Law and its condemnation by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs [crucified] on a tree (cross)”—
But the scriptures shut up all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
For it is written [in the Scriptures],“Rejoice, o barren woman who has not given birth;Break forth into a [joyful] shout, you who are not in labor;For the desolate woman has many more childrenThan she who has a husband.”
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
For this reason, the Scriptures say, when the Messiah was about to come into the world: "You did not want sacrifices and offerings, but you prepared a body for me.
As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
