יְשַׂמַּח־

a father –

וּבֵ֥ן

but a son [is]

כְּ֝סִ֗יל

kə·sîl,

תּוּגַ֥ת

tū·ḡaṯ

. אִמּֽוֹ׃

’im·mōw.

of his mother .

– לֹא־

lō-

י֭וֹעִילוּ

yō·w·‘î·lū

אוֹצְר֣וֹת

’ō·wṣ·rō·wṯ

רֶ֑שַׁע

re·ša‘;

וּ֝צְדָקָ֗ה

ū·ṣə·ḏā·qāh,

but righteousness

תַּצִּ֥יל

taṣ·ṣîl

. מִמָּֽוֶת׃

mim·mā·weṯ.

לֹֽא־

lō-

Not

､ יַרְעִ֣יב

yar·‘îḇ

will allow to famish ､

יְ֭הוָה

Yah·weh

נֶ֣פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

the soul

צַדִּ֑יק

ṣad·dîq;

וְהַוַּ֖ת

wə·haw·waṯ

but the desire

רְשָׁעִ֣ים

rə·šā·‘îm

of the wicked

. יֶהְדֹּֽף׃

yeh·dōp̄.

He casts away .

רָ֗אשׁ

rāš,

He becomes poor

עֹשֶׂ֥ה

‘ō·śeh

､ כַף־

ḵap̄-

a hand ､

רְמִיָּ֑ה

rə·mî·yāh;

וְיַ֖ד

wə·yaḏ

but the hand

חָרוּצִ֣ים

ḥā·rū·ṣîm

of the diligent

. תַּעֲשִֽׁיר׃

ta·‘ă·šîr.

אֹגֵ֣ר

’ō·ḡêr

בַּ֭קַּיִץ

baq·qa·yiṣ

– בֵּ֣ן

bên

[is] a son –

מַשְׂכִּ֑יל

maś·kîl;

נִרְדָּ֥ם

nir·dām

בַּ֝קָּצִ֗יר

baq·qā·ṣîr,

בֵּ֣ן

bên

[is] a son

. מֵבִֽישׁ׃

mê·ḇîš.

who causes shame .

בְּ֭רָכוֹת

bə·rā·ḵō·wṯ

Blessings [are]

לְרֹ֣אשׁ

lə·rōš

on the head

､ צַדִּ֑יק

ṣad·dîq;

of the righteous ､

וּפִ֥י

ū·p̄î

but the mouth

רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים

rə·šā·‘îm,

of the wicked

יְכַסֶּ֥ה

yə·ḵas·seh

. חָמָֽס׃

ḥā·mās.

זֵ֣כֶר

zê·ḵer

צַ֭דִּיק

ṣad·dîq

of the

､ לִבְרָכָ֑ה

liḇ·rā·ḵāh;

righteous [is] blessed ､

וְשֵׁ֖ם

wə·šêm

but the name

רְשָׁעִ֣ים

rə·šā·‘îm

of the wicked

. יִרְקָֽב׃

yir·qāḇ.

will rot .

חֲכַם־

ḥă·ḵam-

The wise

לֵ֭ב

lêḇ

יִקַּ֣ח

yiq·qaḥ

､ מִצְוֺ֑ת

miṣ·wōṯ;

וֶאֱוִ֥יל

we·’ĕ·wîl

but a fool

שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם

p̄ā·ṯa·yim,

. יִלָּבֵֽט׃

yil·lā·ḇêṭ.

will fall .

הוֹלֵ֣ךְ

hō·w·lêḵ

בַּ֭תֹּם

bat·tōm

יֵ֣לֶךְ

yê·leḵ

､ בֶּ֑טַח

be·ṭaḥ;

וּמְעַקֵּ֥שׁ

ū·mə·‘aq·qêš

but he who perverts

דְּ֝רָכָ֗יו

də·rā·ḵāw,

. יִוָּדֵֽעַ׃

yiw·wā·ḏê·a‘.

will become known .

קֹ֣רֵֽץ‪‬

qō·rêṣ

עַ֭יִן

‘a·yin

with the eye

יִתֵּ֣ן

yit·tên

､ עַצָּ֑בֶת

‘aṣ·ṣā·ḇeṯ;

וֶאֱוִ֥יל

we·’ĕ·wîl

but a fool

שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם

p̄ā·ṯa·yim,

. יִלָּבֵֽט׃

yil·lā·ḇêṭ.

will fall .

מְק֣וֹר

mə·qō·wr

[is] a well

– חַ֭יִּים

ḥay·yîm

of life –

פִּ֣י

pî

צַדִּ֑יק

ṣad·dîq;

of the righteous

וּפִ֥י

ū·p̄î

but the mouth

רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים

rə·šā·‘îm,

of the wicked

יְכַסֶּ֥ה

yə·ḵas·seh

. חָמָֽס׃

ḥā·mās.

שִׂ֭נְאָה

nə·’āh

תְּעוֹרֵ֣ר

tə·‘ō·w·rêr

､ מְדָנִ֑ים

mə·ḏā·nîm;

וְעַ֥ל

wə·‘al

but

כָּל־

kāl-

פְּ֝שָׁעִ֗ים

pə·šā·‘îm,

תְּכַסֶּ֥ה

tə·ḵas·seh

. אַהֲבָֽה׃

’a·hă·ḇāh.

בְּשִׂפְתֵ֣י

bə·śip̄·ṯê

On the lips

נָ֭בוֹן

nā·ḇō·wn

of him who has understanding

､ תִּמָּצֵ֣א

tim·mā·ṣê

is found ､

חָכְמָ֑ה

ḥāḵ·māh

וְ֝שֵׁ֗בֶט

wə·šê·ḇeṭ,

but a rod [is]

לְגֵ֣ו

lə·ḡêw

חֲסַר־

ḥă·sar-

of him who is lacking

. לֵֽב׃

lêḇ.

understanding .

חֲכָמִ֥ים

ḥă·ḵā·mîm

יִצְפְּנוּ־

yiṣ·pə·nū-

､ דָ֑עַת

ḏā·‘aṯ;

וּפִֽי־

ū·p̄î-

but the mouth

אֱ֝וִיל

’ĕ·wîl

of the fool

מְחִתָּ֥ה

mə·ḥit·tāh

. קְרֹבָֽה׃

qə·rō·ḇāh.

[is] near .

ה֣וֹן

hō·wn

עָ֭שִׁיר

‘ā·šîr

of the rich man

､ קִרְיַ֣ת

qir·yaṯ

city ､

עֻזּ֑וֹ

‘uz·zōw;

מְחִתַּ֖ת

mə·ḥit·taṯ

the destruction

דַּלִּ֣ים

dal·lîm

of the poor

. רֵישָֽׁם׃

rê·šām.

[is] their poverty .

פְּעֻלַּ֣ת

pə·‘ul·laṯ

צַדִּ֣יק

ṣad·dîq

of the righteous

– לְחַיִּ֑ים

lə·ḥay·yîm;

[leads] to life –

תְּבוּאַ֖ת

tə·ḇū·’aṯ

רָשָׁ֣ע

rā·šā‘

of the wicked

. לְחַטָּֽאת׃

lə·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ.

to sin .

אֹ֣רַח

’ō·raḥ

[in] the way

לְ֭חַיִּים

lə·ḥay·yîm

שׁוֹמֵ֣ר

šō·w·mêr

He who keeps [is]

､ מוּסָ֑ר

mū·sār;

instruction ､

וְעוֹזֵ֖ב

wə·‘ō·w·zêḇ

but he who refuses

תּוֹכַ֣חַת

tō·w·ḵa·ḥaṯ

. מַתְעֶֽה׃

maṯ·‘eh.

מְכַסֶּ֣ה

mə·ḵas·seh

שִׂ֭נְאָה

nə·’āh

､ שִׂפְתֵי־

śip̄·ṯê-

[has] lips ､

שָׁ֑קֶר

šā·qer;

וּמוֹצִ֥א

ū·mō·w·ṣi

and whoever spreads

､ דִ֝בָּ֗ה

ḏib·bāh,

ה֣וּא

hū

is

. כְסִֽיל׃

ḵə·sîl.

a fool .

בְּרֹ֣ב

bə·rōḇ

In the multitude

דְּ֭בָרִים

də·ḇā·rîm

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יֶחְדַּל־

yeḥ·dal-

– פָּ֑שַׁע

pā·ša‘;

sin –

וְחֹשֵׂ֖ךְ

wə·ḥō·śêḵ

but he who restrains

שְׂפָתָ֣יו

śə·p̄ā·ṯāw

. מַשְׂכִּֽיל׃

maś·kîl.

[is] wise .

､ כֶּ֣סֶף

ke·sep̄

[is] silver ､

נִ֭בְחָר

niḇ·ḥār

לְשׁ֣וֹן

lə·šō·wn

צַדִּ֑יק

ṣad·dîq;

of the righteous

לֵ֖ב

lêḇ

רְשָׁעִ֣ים

rə·šā·‘îm

of the wicked

. כִּמְעָֽט׃

kim·‘āṭ.

[is worth] little .

שִׂפְתֵ֣י

śip̄·ṯê

The lips

צַ֭דִּיק

ṣad·dîq

of the righteous

יִרְע֣וּ

yir·‘ū

､ רַבִּ֑ים

rab·bîm;

many ､

וֶֽ֝אֱוִילִ֗ים

we·’ĕ·wî·lîm,

בַּחֲסַר־

ba·ḥă·sar-

לֵ֥ב

lêḇ

. יָמֽוּתוּ׃

yā·mū·ṯū.

בִּרְכַּ֣ת

bir·kaṯ

､ יְ֭הוָה

Yah·weh

of Yahweh ､

הִ֣יא

hî

it

､ תַעֲשִׁ֑יר

ṯa·‘ă·šîr;

makes [one] rich ､

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

and no

יוֹסִ֖ף

yō·w·sip̄

עֶ֣צֶב

‘e·ṣeḇ

. עִמָּֽהּ׃

‘im·māh.

with it .

כִּשְׂח֣וֹק

kiś·ḥō·wq

לִ֭כְסִיל

liḵ·sîl

to a fool

עֲשׂ֣וֹת

‘ă·śō·wṯ

to do

– זִמָּ֑ה

zim·māh;

evil [is] –

וְ֝חָכְמָ֗ה

wə·ḥā·ḵə·māh,

לְאִ֣ישׁ

lə·’îš

. תְּבוּנָֽה׃

tə·ḇū·nāh.

of understanding .

מְגוֹרַ֣ת

mə·ḡō·w·raṯ

The fear

､ רָ֭שָׁע

rā·šā‘

of the wicked ､

הִ֣יא

hî

it

תְבוֹאֶ֑נּוּ

ṯə·ḇō·w·’en·nū;

will come upon him

וְתַאֲוַ֖ת

wə·ṯa·’ă·waṯ

and the desire

צַדִּיקִ֣ים

ṣad·dî·qîm

of the righteous

. יִתֵּֽן׃

yit·tên.

will be granted .

､ כַּעֲב֣וֹר

ka·‘ă·ḇō·wr

When passes by ､

ס֭וּפָה

sū·p̄āh

וְאֵ֣ין

wə·’ên

and [is] no [more]

רָשָׁ֑ע

rā·šā‘;

וְ֝צַדִּ֗יק

wə·ṣad·dîq,

but the righteous [has]

יְס֣וֹד

yə·sō·wḏ

. עוֹלָֽם׃

‘ō·w·lām.

כַּחֹ֤מֶץ ׀

ka·ḥō·meṣ

､ לַשִּׁנַּ֗יִם

laš·šin·na·yim,

to the teeth ､

וְכֶעָשָׁ֥ן

wə·ḵe·‘ā·šān

､ לָעֵינָ֑יִם

lā·‘ê·nā·yim;

to the eyes ､

כֵּ֥ן

kên

so [is]

הֶ֝עָצֵ֗ל

he·‘ā·ṣêl,

the lazy [man]

. לְשֹׁלְחָֽיו׃

lə·šō·lə·ḥāw.

to those who send him .

יִרְאַ֣ת

yir·’aṯ

The fear

יְ֭הוָה

Yah·weh

תּוֹסִ֣יף

tō·w·sîp̄

､ יָמִ֑ים

yā·mîm;

days ､

וּשְׁנ֖וֹת

ū·šə·nō·wṯ

but the years

רְשָׁעִ֣ים

rə·šā·‘îm

of the wicked

. תִּקְצֹֽרְנָה׃

tiq·ṣō·rə·nāh.

will be shortened .

תּוֹחֶ֣לֶת

tō·w·ḥe·leṯ

The hope

צַדִּיקִ֣ים

ṣad·dî·qîm

of the righteous

､ שִׂמְחָ֑ה

śim·ḥāh;

[will be] gladness ､

וְתִקְוַ֖ת

wə·ṯiq·waṯ

but the expectation

רְשָׁעִ֣ים

rə·šā·‘îm

of the wicked

. תֹּאבֵֽד׃

tō·ḇêḏ.

will perish .

מָע֣וֹז

mā·‘ō·wz

､ לַ֭תֹּם

lat·tōm

for the upright ､

דֶּ֣רֶךְ

de·reḵ

the way

יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

וּ֝מְחִתָּ֗ה

ū·mə·ḥit·tāh,

but destruction [will come]

לְפֹ֣עֲלֵי

lə·p̄ō·‘ă·lê

to the workers

. אָֽוֶן׃

’ā·wen.

צַדִּ֣יק

ṣad·dîq

לְעוֹלָ֣ם

lə·‘ō·w·lām

בַּל־

bal-

､ יִמּ֑וֹט

yim·mō·wṭ;

will be removed ､

וּ֝רְשָׁעִ֗ים

ū·rə·šā·‘îm,

but the wicked

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יִשְׁכְּנוּ־

yiš·kə·nū-

. אָֽרֶץ׃

’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

פִּֽי־

pî-

צַ֭דִּיק

ṣad·dîq

of the righteous

יָנ֣וּב

yā·nūḇ

､ חָכְמָ֑ה

ḥāḵ·māh

וּלְשׁ֥וֹן

ū·lə·šō·wn

but the tongue

תַּ֝הְפֻּכ֗וֹת

tah·pu·ḵō·wṯ,

. תִּכָּרֵֽת׃

tik·kā·rêṯ.

will be cut out .

שִׂפְתֵ֣י

śip̄·ṯê

The lips

צַ֭דִּיק

ṣad·dîq

of the righteous

יֵדְע֣וּן

yê·ḏə·‘ūn

– רָצ֑וֹן

rā·ṣō·wn;

what is acceptable –

וּפִ֥י

ū·p̄î

but the mouth

רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים

rə·šā·‘îm,

of the wicked

. תַּהְפֻּכֽוֹת׃

tah·pu·ḵō·wṯ.

[what is] perverse .
