With her many persuasions she entices him; With her flattering lips she seduces him. Suddenly he follows her As an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as one in fetters to the discipline of a fool, Until an arrow pierces through his liver; As a bird hastens to the snare, So he does not know that it will cost him his life.

A man who flatters his neighbor
Is spreading a net for his steps.



For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding; If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will discern the fear of the LORD And discover the knowledge of God.


Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding!
Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.

The mind of the intelligent seeks knowledge,
But the mouth of fools feeds on folly.



If anyone supposes that he knows anything, he has not yet known as he ought to know;

Causing the omens of boasters to fail,
Making fools out of diviners,
Causing wise men to draw back
And turning their knowledge into foolishness,



But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body.




Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies.


Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"-- therefore the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken.


"For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.
