'Revelers' in the Bible
(The Bridegroom)“I have come into my garden, my sister, my [promised] bride;I have gathered my myrrh along with my balsam and spice [from your sweet words].I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey;I have drunk my wine with my milk.Eat, friends;Drink and drink deeply, O lovers.”
They set the table [for the doomed banquet], they spread out the cloth, they eat, they drink;“Rise up, captains [of Belshazzar’s court], oil your shields [for battle, for your enemy is at the gates]!”
The gaiety of tambourines ceases,The noise of revelers stops,The gaiety of the harp ceases.
I never sat with the band of revelers, and I did not celebrate with them.Because Your hand was on me, I sat alone, for You filled me with indignation.
“In the shadow of HeshbonThe fugitives stand without strength; For a fire has gone forth from HeshbonAnd a flame from the midst of Sihon,And it has devoured the forehead of MoabAnd the scalps of the riotous revelers.
“When they are inflamed [with wine and lust during their drinking bouts], I will prepare them a feast [of My wrath]And make them drunk, that they may rejoiceAnd may sleep a perpetual sleepAnd not wake up,” declares the Lord.
