'Speech' in the Bible
And a scoundrel, his weapons [are] evil; he plans evil devices to ruin [the] poor with words of deception even when the speech of [the] needy [is] right.
Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech.
Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand.
As I create the praise of his lips,Peace, peace, to him who is far away [both Jew and Gentile] and to him who is near!”Says the Lord;“And I will heal him [making his lips blossom anew with thankful praise].”
Then shalt thou call, and Jehovah will answer; thou shalt cry, and he will say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger and the unjust speech,
I am about to bring a nationfrom far away against you,house of Israel.This is the Lord’s declaration.It is an established nation,an ancient nation,a nation whose language you do not knowand whose speech you do not understand.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD bless thee, O habitation of justice, and mountain of holiness.
And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.
For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, but to the house of Israel;
Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee.
Then I said, "O sovereign Lord! They are saying of me, 'Does he not simply speak in eloquent figures of speech?'"
You exalted yourselves against me with your speech and hurled many insults against me -- I have heard them all!
His body was like beryl, his face flashed like lightning, his eyes were like flaming torches, his arms and legs were like polished bronze, and his speech roared like that of a crowd.
Bring a prepared speech with you as you return to the LORD. Say to him: "Take away all our iniquity, and accept what is good. Then we will present the fruit of our lips.
Her rich men are full of violence, her inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their speech.
O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
For I will then restorepure speech to the peoplesso that all of them may callon the name of Yahwehand serve Him with a single purpose.
But let your speech be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: and whatsoever is more than these is of the evil one .
For out of the heart come evil thoughts and plans, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies, slanders (verbal abuse, irreverent speech, blaspheming).
And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
Another saying of His was this: "How are we to picture the Kingdom of God? or by what figure of speech shall we represent it?
After He had left the crowd and gone indoors, His disciples began to ask Him about this figure of speech.
adulteries, [acts of] greed, malicious [deeds], deceit, licentiousness, {envy}, abusive speech, pride, foolishness.
And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
Immediately his ears were opened, his speech difficulty was removed, and he began to speak clearly.
Then they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus in order to trap Him into making a statement [that they could use against Him].
And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor.
“What things?” He asked them.So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a Prophet powerful in action and speech before God and all the people,
Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them.
“I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. A time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.
His disciples *said, “Lo, now You are speaking plainly and are not using a figure of speech.
Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit gave them ability for speech.
So Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in his speech and actions.
Therefore, at a set time Herod put on his royal robes, sat down on the royal seat, and made a speech to them.
And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
They began calling Barnabas, Zeus [chief of the Greek gods], and Paul, Hermes [messenger of the Greek gods], since he took the lead in speaking.
Both Judas and Silas, who were prophets themselves, encouraged and strengthened the brothers with a long speech.
For you have brought these men here who are neither temple robbers nor blasphemers of our goddess.
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
for such our Lord Jesus Christ do not serve, but their own belly; and through the good word and fair speech they deceive the hearts of the harmless,
For by him you have become rich in every way in speech and knowledge of every kind
For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void.
And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.
In the same way, unless you use your tongue for intelligible speech, how will what is spoken be known? For you will be speaking into the air.
But if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will [appear to] be a foreigner to the one who is speaking [since he knows exactly what he is saying], and the one who is speaking will [appear to] be a foreigner to me.
But [as surely as] God is faithful and means what He says, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No” [at the same time].
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
truthful speech, and divine power; through the weapons of righteousness in the right and left hands;
Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.
Now as you excel in everything—faith, speech, knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love for us—excel also in this grace.
For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.
Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.
All bitterness, and rage, and wrath, and clamor, and abusive speech, must be removed from you, together with all wickedness.
Neither should there be vulgar speech, foolish talk, or coarse jesting -- all of which are out of character -- but rather thanksgiving.
It is my own eager expectation and hope, that [looking toward the future] I will not disgrace myself nor be ashamed in anything, but that with courage and the utmost freedom of speech, even now as always, Christ will be magnified and exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
And I say this to the end that no one may delude you by persuasive speech.
But now you must also get rid of anger, wrath, malice, slander, obscene speech, and all such sins.
And whatever you do, whether by speech or action, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
For we never used flattering speech, as you know, or had greedy motives—God is our witness—
Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
For those who have filled the deacon's office wisely and well, are already gaining for themselves an honourable standing, and are acquiring great freedom of speech in proclaiming the faith which rests on Christ Jesus.
Let no one despise your youth; instead, you should be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding irreverent, empty speech and contradictions from the “knowledge” that falsely bears that name.
But avoid irreverent, empty speech, for this will produce an even greater measure of godlessness.
Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
For we all stumble and sin in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says [never saying the wrong thing], he is a perfect man [fully developed in character, without serious flaws], able to bridle his whole body and rein in his entire nature [taming his human faults and weaknesses].
If anyone speaks, it should be as one who speaks God’s words; if anyone serves, it should be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
Little children, we must not love with word or speech, but with truth and action.
And the beast was given a mouth (the power of speech), uttering great things and arrogant and blasphemous words, and he was given freedom and authority to act and to do as he pleased for forty-two months (three and a half years).
