²⁷ ‘tekel’—you have been weighed on the scales [of righteousness] and found deficient; ²⁸ ‘peres’—your kingdom has been divided and given over to the Medes and Persians.” ²⁹ Then Belshazzar gave the command, and Daniel was clothed with purple and a chain of gold was put around his neck, and a proclamation concerning him was issued [declaring] that he now had authority as the third ruler in the kingdom.

So Darius the Mede received the kingdom; he was about the age of sixty-two.

Then I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, there in front of the canal stood a [lone] ram (the Medo-Persian Empire) which had two horns. The two horns were high, but one (Persia) was higher than the other (Media), and the higher one came up last.

Daniel 8:20

The ram which you saw with the two horns represents the kings of Media and Persia.
