Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

Abram said, “O Lord God, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”

Therefore she said to Abraham, “Drive out this maid and her son, for the son of this maid shall not be an heir with my son Isaac.”

Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord

answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.

There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren and had borne no children.

But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

Therefore he treated Abram well for her sake; and

gave him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female servants and female donkeys and camels.

Now Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham,

mocking.
