Esther Plans a Banquet

וַיְהִ֣י ׀

And it came to pass

､ בַּיּ֣וֹם

bay·yō·wm

on day ､

הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֗י

haš·šə·lî·šî,

וַתִּלְבַּ֤שׁ

wat·til·baš

אֶסְתֵּר֙

’es·têr

מַלְכ֔וּת

mal·ḵūṯ,

[her] royal [robes]

וַֽתַּעֲמֹ֞ד

wat·ta·‘ă·mōḏ

בַּחֲצַ֤ר

ba·ḥă·ṣar

､ בֵּית־

bêṯ-

of palace ､

הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙

ham·me·leḵ

of the king

הַפְּנִימִ֔ית

hap·pə·nî·mîṯ,

נֹ֖כַח

nō·ḵaḥ

､ בֵּ֣ית

bêṯ

הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ;

of the king

וְ֠הַמֶּלֶךְ

wə·ham·me·leḵ

and while the king

יוֹשֵׁ֞ב

yō·wō·šêḇ

עַל־

‘al-

on

כִּסֵּ֤א

kis·sê

מַלְכוּתוֹ֙

mal·ḵū·ṯōw

､ בְּבֵ֣ית

bə·ḇêṯ

in house ､

הַמַּלְכ֔וּת

ham·mal·ḵūṯ,

נֹ֖כַח

nō·ḵaḥ

פֶּ֥תַח

pe·ṯaḥ

. הַבָּֽיִת׃

hab·bā·yiṯ.

of the house .

וַיְהִי֩

way·hî

So it was

כִרְא֨וֹת

ḵir·’ō·wṯ

הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֶסְתֵּ֣ר

’es·têr

הַמַּלְכָּ֗ה

ham·mal·kāh,

עֹמֶ֙דֶת֙

‘ō·me·ḏeṯ

､ בֶּֽחָצֵ֔ר

be·ḥā·ṣêr,

in the court ､

נָשְׂאָ֥ה

nā·śə·’āh

[that] she found

חֵ֖ן

ḥên

– בְּעֵינָ֑יו

bə·‘ê·nāw;

in his sight –

וַיּ֨וֹשֶׁט

way·yō·wō·šeṭ

הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king

לְאֶסְתֵּ֗ר

lə·’es·têr,

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שַׁרְבִ֤יט

šar·ḇîṭ

הַזָּהָב֙

haz·zā·hāḇ

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

. בְּיָד֔וֹ

bə·yā·ḏōw,

[was] in his hand .

､ וַתִּקְרַ֣ב

wat·tiq·raḇ

And went near ､

אֶסְתֵּ֔ר

’es·têr,

וַתִּגַּ֖ע

wat·tig·ga‘

בְּרֹ֥אשׁ

bə·rōš

the top

. הַשַּׁרְבִֽיט׃

haš·šar·ḇîṭ.

of the scepter .

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

לָהּ֙

lāh

to her

הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ,

the king

מַה־

mah-

לָּ֖ךְ

lāḵ

؟ אֶסְתֵּ֣ר

’es·têr

הַמַּלְכָּ֑ה

ham·mal·kāh;

וּמַה־

ū·mah-

and what [is]

؟ בַּקָּשָׁתֵ֛ךְ

baq·qā·šā·ṯêḵ

your request ؟

עַד־

‘aḏ-

up to

חֲצִ֥י

ḥă·ṣî

הַמַּלְכ֖וּת

ham·mal·ḵūṯ

וְיִנָּ֥תֵֽן

wə·yin·nā·ṯên

and it shall be given

. לָֽךְ׃

lāḵ.

to you .

､ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר

wat·tō·mer

So answered ､

אֶסְתֵּ֔ר

’es·têr,

אִם־

’im-

if

עַל־

‘al-

to

､ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king ､

ט֑וֹב

ṭō·wḇ;

יָב֨וֹא

yā·ḇō·w

הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king

וְהָמָן֙

wə·hā·mān

הַיּ֔וֹם

hay·yō·wm,

אֶל־

’el-

to

הַמִּשְׁתֶּ֖ה

ham·miš·teh

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

עָשִׂ֥יתִי

‘ā·śî·ṯî

I have prepared

. לֽוֹ׃

lōw.

､ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said ､

הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ,

the king

､ מַהֲרוּ֙

ma·hă·rū

bring quickly ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָמָ֔ן

hā·mān,

לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת

la·‘ă·śō·wṯ

that he may do

אֶת־

’eṯ-

as

. דְּבַ֣ר

də·ḇar

אֶסְתֵּ֑ר

’es·têr;

וַיָּבֹ֤א

way·yā·ḇō

הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙

ham·me·leḵ

the king

וְהָמָ֔ן

wə·hā·mān,

אֶל־

’el-

to

הַמִּשְׁתֶּ֖ה

ham·miš·teh

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

עָשְׂתָ֥ה

‘ā·śə·ṯāh

. אֶסְתֵּֽר׃

’es·têr.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king

לְאֶסְתֵּר֙

lə·’es·têr

בְּמִשְׁתֵּ֣ה

bə·miš·têh

at the banquet

､ הַיַּ֔יִן

hay·ya·yin,

of wine ､

מַה־

mah-

what [is]

؟ שְּׁאֵלָתֵ֖ךְ

šə·’ê·lā·ṯêḵ

your petition ؟

וְיִנָּ֣תֵֽן

wə·yin·nā·ṯên

and it shall be granted

לָ֑ךְ

lāḵ;

וּמַה־

ū·mah-

and what [is]

؟ בַּקָּשָׁתֵ֛ךְ

baq·qā·šā·ṯêḵ

your request ؟

עַד־

‘aḏ-

up to

חֲצִ֥י

ḥă·ṣî

הַמַּלְכ֖וּת

ham·mal·ḵūṯ

. וְתֵעָֽשׂ׃

wə·ṯê·‘āś.

and it shall be done .

וַתַּ֥עַן

wat·ta·‘an

､ אֶסְתֵּ֖ר

’es·têr

､ וַתֹּאמַ֑ר

wat·tō·mar;

and said ､

שְׁאֵלָתִ֖י

šə·’ê·lā·ṯî

. וּבַקָּשָׁתִֽי׃

ū·ḇaq·qā·šā·ṯî.

and request [is this] .

אִם־

’im-

If

מָצָ֨אתִי

mā·ṣā·ṯî

חֵ֜ן

ḥên

בְּעֵינֵ֣י

bə·‘ê·nê

in the sight

､ הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ,

of the king ､

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

and if

עַל־

‘al-

on

הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙

ham·me·leḵ

the king

ט֔וֹב

ṭō·wḇ,

לָתֵת֙

lā·ṯêṯ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ שְׁאֵ֣לָתִ֔י

šə·’ê·lā·ṯî,

my petition ､

וְלַעֲשׂ֖וֹת

wə·la·‘ă·śō·wṯ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ בַּקָּשָׁתִ֑י

baq·qā·šā·ṯî;

my request ､

יָב֧וֹא

yā·ḇō·w

הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king

וְהָמָ֗ן

wə·hā·mān,

אֶל־

’el-

to

הַמִּשְׁתֶּה֙

ham·miš·teh

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֣ה

’e·‘ĕ·śeh

I will prepare

לָהֶ֔ם

lā·hem,

וּמָחָ֥ר

ū·mā·ḥār

אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֖ה

’e·‘ĕ·śeh

I will do

כִּדְבַ֥ר

kiḏ·ḇar

. הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

ham·me·leḵ.

the king .

וַיֵּצֵ֤א

and with a glad

וְכִרְאוֹת֩

､ הָמָ֨ן

hā·mān

אֶֽת־

מָרְדֳּכַ֜י

mā·rə·do·ḵay

､ בְּשַׁ֣עַר

bə·ša·‘ar

in gate ､

הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ,

of the king

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

that not

､ קָם֙

qām

he did stand ､

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

or

זָ֣ע

zā‘

מִמֶּ֔נּוּ

mim·men·nū,

וַיִּמָּלֵ֥א

way·yim·mā·lê

הָמָ֛ן

hā·mān

עַֽל־

‘al-

מָרְדֳּכַ֖י

mā·rə·do·ḵay

. חֵמָֽה׃

ḥê·māh.

with indignation .

– וַיִּתְאַפַּ֣ק

way·yiṯ·’ap·paq

And nevertheless restrained himself –

הָמָ֔ן

hā·mān,

וַיָּב֖וֹא

way·yā·ḇō·w

and went

אֶל־

’el-

､ בֵּית֑וֹ

bê·ṯōw;

home ､

וַיִּשְׁלַ֛ח

way·yiš·laḥ

and he sent

וַיָּבֵ֥א

way·yā·ḇê

אֶת־

’eṯ-

､ אֹהֲבָ֖יו

’ō·hă·ḇāw

his friends ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

זֶ֥רֶשׁ

ze·reš

. אִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

’iš·tōw.

וַיְסַפֵּ֨ר

way·sap·pêr

And told

לָהֶ֥ם

lā·hem

הָמָ֛ן

hā·mān

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כְּב֥וֹד

kə·ḇō·wḏ

､ עָשְׁר֖וֹ

‘ā·šə·rōw

וְרֹ֣ב

wə·rōḇ

and the multitude

､ בָּנָ֑יו

bā·nāw;

of his children ､

וְאֵת֩

wə·’êṯ

and

כָּל־

kāl-

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

גִּדְּל֤וֹ

gid·də·lōw

had promoted him

הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙

ham·me·leḵ

the king

וְאֵ֣ת

wə·’êṯ

and

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

נִשְּׂא֔וֹ

niś·śə·’ōw,

he had advanced him

עַל־

‘al-

הַשָּׂרִ֖ים

haś·śā·rîm

וְעַבְדֵ֥י

wə·‘aḇ·ḏê

. הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

ham·me·leḵ.

of the king .

וַיֹּאמֶר֮

way·yō·mer

הָמָן֒

hā·mān

､ אַ֣ף

לֹא־

lō-

הֵבִיאָה֩

hê·ḇî·’āh

אֶסְתֵּ֨ר

הַמַּלְכָּ֧ה

לְמָחָ֛ר

חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים

אַמָּה֒

’am·māh

וּבַבֹּ֣קֶר ׀

ū·ḇab·bō·qer

and in the morning

אֱמֹ֣ר

’ĕ·mōr

לַמֶּ֗לֶךְ

lam·me·leḵ,

to the king

וְיִתְל֤וּ

wə·yiṯ·lū

אֶֽת־

’eṯ-

-

מָרְדֳּכַי֙

mā·rə·do·ḵay

– עָלָ֔יו

‘ā·lāw,

on it –

וּבֹֽא־

ū·ḇō-

עִם־

‘im-

with

הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ

ham·me·leḵ

the king

אֶל‪‬‪‬

. הַמִּשְׁתֶּ֖ה
