וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר

And spoke
יְהוָ֔ה
Yah·weh,
אֶל־
’el-
to
､ יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ
yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘
Joshua ､
､ לֵאמֹֽר׃
lê·mōr.
saying ､

דַּבֵּ֛ר
dab·bêr
אֶל־
’el-
to
בְּנֵ֥י
bə·nê
the sons
､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל
yiś·rā·’êl
of Israel ､
､ לֵאמֹ֑ר
lê·mōr;
saying ､
תְּנ֤וּ
tə·nū
לָכֶם֙
lā·ḵem
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
עָרֵ֣י
‘ā·rê
､ הַמִּקְלָ֔ט
ham·miq·lāṭ,
of refuge ､
אֲשֶׁר־
’ă·šer-
דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי
dib·bar·tî
אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם
’ă·lê·ḵem
to you
בְּיַד־
bə·yaḏ-
､ מֹשֶֽׁה׃
mō·šeh.
Moses ､

לָנ֥וּס
lā·nūs
､ שָׁ֙מָּה֙
šām·māh
there ､
רוֹצֵ֔חַ
rō·w·ṣê·aḥ,
מַכֵּה־
mak·kêh-
נֶ֥פֶשׁ
ne·p̄eš
בִּשְׁגָגָ֖ה
biš·ḡā·ḡāh
בִּבְלִי־
biḇ·lî-
דָ֑עַת
ḏā·‘aṯ;
וְהָי֤וּ
wə·hā·yū
and they shall be
לָכֶם֙
lā·ḵem
לְמִקְלָ֔ט
lə·miq·lāṭ,
מִגֹּאֵ֖ל
mig·gō·’êl
. הַדָּֽם׃
had·dām.
of blood .

וְנָ֞ס
wə·nās
And when he flees
אֶל־
’el-
to
אַחַ֣ת ׀
’a·ḥaṯ
מֵהֶעָרִ֣ים
mê·he·‘ā·rîm
הָאֵ֗לֶּה
hā·’êl·leh,
וְעָמַד֙
wə·‘ā·maḏ
and stands
פֶּ֚תַח
pe·ṯaḥ
at the entrance
שַׁ֣עַר
ša·‘ar
of the gate
､ הָעִ֔יר
hā·‘îr,
of the city ､
וְדִבֶּ֛ר
wə·ḏib·ber
בְּאָזְנֵ֛י
bə·’ā·zə·nê
in the hearing
זִקְנֵ֥י־
ziq·nê
of the elders
､ הָעִֽיר
hā·‘îr-
of city ､
הַהִ֖יא
ha·hî
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
דְּבָרָ֑יו
də·ḇā·rāw;
וְאָסְפ֨וּ
wə·’ā·sə·p̄ū
אֹת֤וֹ
’ō·ṯōw
הָעִ֙ירָה֙
hā·‘î·rāh
אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם
’ă·lê·hem,
as one of them
וְנָתְנוּ־
wə·nā·ṯə·nū-
and give
ל֥וֹ
lōw
､ מָק֖וֹם
mā·qō·wm
a place ､
וְיָשַׁ֥ב
wə·yā·šaḇ
. עִמָּֽם׃
‘im·mām.

וְכִ֨י
wə·ḵî
And if
יִרְדֹּ֜ף
yir·dōp̄
גֹּאֵ֤ל
gō·’êl
הַדָּם֙
had·dām
אַֽחֲרָ֔יו
’a·ḥă·rāw,
וְלֹֽא־
wə·lō-
and not
יַסְגִּ֥רוּ
yas·gi·rū
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
הָרֹצֵ֖חַ
hā·rō·ṣê·aḥ
the slayer
– בְּיָד֑וֹ
bə·yā·ḏōw;
כִּ֤י
kî
בִבְלִי־
ḇiḇ·lî-
､ דַ֙עַת֙
ḏa·‘aṯ
הִכָּ֣ה
hik·kāh
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
רֵעֵ֔הוּ
rê·‘ê·hū,
וְלֹֽא־
wə·lō-
but not
שֹׂנֵ֥א
śō·nê
ה֛וּא
hū
he
ל֖וֹ
lōw
מִתְּמ֥וֹל
mit·tə·mō·wl
. שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם׃
šil·šō·wm.

וְיָשַׁ֣ב ׀
wə·yā·šaḇ
And he shall dwell
､ בָּעִ֣יר
bā·‘îr
in city ､
הַהִ֗יא
ha·hî,
עַד־
‘aḏ-
עָמְד֞וֹ
‘ā·mə·ḏōw
לִפְנֵ֤י
lip̄·nê
הָֽעֵדָה֙
hā·‘ê·ḏāh
､ לַמִּשְׁפָּ֔ט
lam·miš·pāṭ,
עַד־
‘aḏ-
[and] until
מוֹת֙
mō·wṯ
the death
הַכֹּהֵ֣ן
hak·kō·hên
of the priest
הַגָּד֔וֹל
hag·gā·ḏō·wl,
אֲשֶׁ֥ר
’ă·šer
יִהְיֶ֖ה
yih·yeh
is
. בַּיָּמִ֣ים
bay·yā·mîm
in days .
הָהֵ֑ם
hā·hêm;
אָ֣ז ׀
’āz
､ יָשׁ֣וּב
yā·šūḇ
הָרוֹצֵ֗חַ
hā·rō·w·ṣê·aḥ,
the slayer
וּבָ֤א
ū·ḇā
and come
אֶל־
’el-
to
､ עִירוֹ֙
‘î·rōw
וְאֶל־
wə·’el-
and
､ בֵּית֔וֹ
bê·ṯōw,
אֶל־
’el-
to
הָעִ֖יר
hā·‘îr
the city
אֲשֶׁר־
’ă·šer-
נָ֥ס
nās
he fled
. מִשָּֽׁם׃
miš·šām.

וַיַּקְדִּ֜שׁוּ
way·yaq·di·šū
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
קֶ֤דֶשׁ
qe·ḏeš
בַּגָּלִיל֙
bag·gā·lîl
בְּהַ֣ר
bə·har
in the mountains
､ נַפְתָּלִ֔י
nap̄·tā·lî,
of Naphtali ､
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
שְׁכֶ֖ם
šə·ḵem
בְּהַ֣ר
bə·har
in the mountains
､ אֶפְרָ֑יִם
’ep̄·rā·yim;
of Ephraim ､
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
קִרְיַ֥ת
qir·yaṯ
-
､ אַרְבַּ֛ע
’ar·ba‘
הִ֥יא
hî
it [is]
､ חֶבְר֖וֹן
ḥeḇ·rō·wn
Hebron ､
בְּהַ֥ר
bə·har
in the mountains
. יְהוּדָֽה׃
yə·hū·ḏāh.
of Judah .

וּמֵעֵ֜בֶר
ū·mê·‘ê·ḇer
And on the other side
לְיַרְדֵּ֤ן
lə·yar·dên
of the Jordan
יְרִיחוֹ֙
yə·rî·ḥōw
､ מִזְרָ֔חָה
miz·rā·ḥāh,
נָתְנ֞וּ
nā·ṯə·nū
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
בֶּ֧צֶר
be·ṣer
בַּמִּדְבָּ֛ר
bam·miḏ·bār
in the wilderness
בַּמִּישֹׁ֖ר
bam·mî·šōr
on the plain
מִמַּטֵּ֣ה
mim·maṭ·ṭêh
､ רְאוּבֵ֑ן
rə·’ū·ḇên;
of Reuben ､
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
רָאמֹ֤ת
rā·mōṯ
בַּגִּלְעָד֙
bag·gil·‘āḏ
מִמַּטֵּה־
mim·maṭ·ṭêh-
､ גָ֔ד
ḡāḏ,
of Gad ､
וְאֶת־
wə·’eṯ-
and
[גלון]
gā·lō·wn
(גּוֹלָ֥ן)
gō·w·lān
בַּבָּשָׁ֖ן
bab·bā·šān
מִמַּטֵּ֥ה
mim·maṭ·ṭêh
. מְנַשֶּֽׁה׃

the sons
､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

of Israel ､
וְלַגֵּר֙
wə·lag·gêr
הַגָּ֣ר
hag·gār
בְּתוֹכָ֔ם
bə·ṯō·w·ḵām,
לָנ֣וּס
lā·nūs
､ שָׁ֔מָּה
šām·māh,
there ､
כָּל־
kāl-
מַכֵּה־
mak·kêh-
נֶ֖פֶשׁ
ne·p̄eš
בִּשְׁגָגָ֑ה
biš·ḡā·ḡāh;
וְלֹ֣א
wə·lō
and not
יָמ֗וּת
yā·mūṯ,
בְּיַד֙
bə·yaḏ
by the hand
גֹּאֵ֣ל
gō·’êl
of the avenger
､ הַדָּ֔ם
had·dām,
of blood ､
עַד־
‘aḏ-
עָמְד֖וֹ
‘ā·mə·ḏōw
לִפְנֵ֥י
lip̄·nê
. הָעֵדָֽה׃
hā·‘ê·ḏāh.
