to the earth

תִּפְאֶ֖רֶת

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

of Israel ､

וְלֹא־

and not

זָכַ֥ר

zā·ḵar

הֲדֹם־

hă·ḏōm-

רַגְלָ֖יו

raḡ·lāw

בְּי֥וֹם

in the day

! אַפּֽוֹ׃

He has thrown down

בְּעֶבְרָת֛וֹ

bə·‘eḇ·rā·ṯōw

מִבְצְרֵ֥י

miḇ·ṣə·rê

the strongholds

בַת־

ḇaṯ-

of the daughter

– יְהוּדָ֖ה

yə·hū·ḏāh

of Judah –

הִגִּ֣יעַ

hig·gî·a‘

He has brought [them] down

– לָאָ֑רֶץ

lā·’ā·reṣ;

to the ground –

חִלֵּ֥ל

ḥil·lêl

He has profaned

מַמְלָכָ֖ה

mam·lā·ḵāh

. וְשָׂרֶֽיהָ׃

wə·śā·re·hā.

and its princes .

the enemy ､

וַיִּבְעַ֤ר

way·yiḇ·‘ar

and He has blazed

בְּיַעֲקֹב֙

bə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ

､ כְּאֵ֣שׁ

kə·’êš

like a fire ､

לֶֽהָבָ֔ה

le·hā·ḇāh,

אָכְלָ֖ה

’ā·ḵə·lāh

. סָבִֽיב׃

like an enemy –

with His right hand

､ כְּצָ֔ר

kə·ṣār,

like an adversary ､

וַֽיַּהֲרֹ֔ג

way·ya·hă·rōḡ,

and He has slain

כֹּ֖ל

kōl

מַחֲמַדֵּי־

ma·ḥă·mad·dê-

[who were] pleasing

עָ֑יִן

‘ā·yin;

בְּאֹ֙הֶל֙

bə·’ō·hel

On the tent

בַּת־

baṯ-

of the daughter

– צִיּ֔וֹן

ṣî·yō·wn,

of Zion –

שָׁפַ֥ךְ

šā·p̄aḵ

He has poured out

כָּאֵ֖שׁ

kā·’êš

. חֲמָתֽוֹ׃

ḥă·mā·ṯōw.

הָיָ֨ה

the Lord

– כְּאוֹיֵב֙

like an enemy –

בִּלַּ֣ע

He has swallowed up

כָּל־

､ אַרְמְנוֹתֶ֔יהָ

’ar·mə·nō·w·ṯe·hā,

her palaces ､

שִׁחֵ֖ת

ši·ḥêṯ

He has destroyed

､ מִבְצָרָ֑יו

miḇ·ṣā·rāw;

her strongholds ､

וַיֶּ֙רֶב֙

way·ye·reḇ

and has increased

בְּבַת־

bə·ḇaṯ-

in the daughter

יְהוּדָ֔ה

yə·hū·ḏāh,

תַּאֲנִיָּ֖ה

ta·’ă·nî·yāh

. וַאֲנִיָּֽה׃

wa·’ă·nî·yāh.

וַיַּחְמֹ֤ס

way·yaḥ·mōs

And He has done violence to

– כַּגַּן֙

kag·gan

[As [if it were] a garden –

､ שֻׂכּ֔וֹ

śuk·kōw,

His tabernacle ､

שִׁחֵ֖ת

ši·ḥêṯ

He has destroyed

– מוֹעֲד֑וֹ

mō·w·‘ă·ḏōw;

His place of assembly –

שִׁכַּ֨ח

šik·kaḥ

has caused to be forgotten

יְהוָ֤ה ׀

Yah·weh

､ בְּצִיּוֹן֙

bə·ṣî·yō·wn

in Zion ､

מוֹעֵ֣ד

mō·w·‘êḏ

the appointed feasts

וְשַׁבָּ֔ת

wə·šab·bāṯ,

וַיִּנְאַ֥ץ

way·yin·’aṣ

and He has spurned

בְּזַֽעַם־

bə·za·‘am-

אַפּ֖וֹ

’ap·pōw

מֶ֥לֶךְ

me·leḵ

the king

. וְכֹהֵֽן׃

wə·ḵō·hên.

and the priest .

אֲדֹנָ֤י ׀

the Lord

､ מִזְבְּחוֹ֙

נִאֵ֣ר

ni·’êr

He has abandoned

､ מִקְדָּשׁ֔וֹ

miq·dā·šōw,

His sanctuary ､

הִסְגִּיר֙

his·gîr

He has given up

בְּיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

אוֹיֵ֔ב

’ō·w·yêḇ,

of the enemy

חוֹמֹ֖ת

ḥō·w·mōṯ

– אַרְמְנוֹתֶ֑יהָ

’ar·mə·nō·w·ṯe·hā;

of her palaces –

ק֛וֹל

נָתְנ֥וּ

nā·ṯə·nū

בְּבֵית־

bə·ḇêṯ-

in the house

､ יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

of Yahweh ､

כְּי֥וֹם

kə·yō·wm

as on the day

. מוֹעֵֽד׃

of a set feast .

the wall

בַּת־

of the daughter

of Zion .

נָ֣טָה

He has stretched out

､ קָ֔ו

qāw,

a line ､

לֹא־

lō-

not

הֵשִׁ֥יב

hê·šîḇ

He has withdrawn

יָד֖וֹ

yā·ḏōw

､ מִבַּלֵּ֑עַ

mib·bal·lê·a‘;

from destroying ､

– וַיַּֽאֲבֶל־

way·ya·’ă·ḇel-

therefore He has caused to lament –

חֵ֥ל

ḥêl

וְחוֹמָ֖ה

wə·ḥō·w·māh

and wall

יַחְדָּ֥ו

yaḥ·dāw

. אֻמְלָֽלוּ׃

’um·lā·lū.

they languished .

– בָאָ֙רֶץ֙

ḇā·’ā·reṣ

into the ground –

שְׁעָרֶ֔יהָ

šə·‘ā·re·hā,

אִבַּ֥ד

He has destroyed

וְשִׁבַּ֖ר

wə·šib·bar

. בְּרִיחֶ֑יהָ

bə·rî·ḥe·hā;

מַלְכָּ֨הּ

mal·kāh

וְשָׂרֶ֤יהָ

wə·śā·re·hā

and her princes [are]

– בַגּוֹיִם֙

ḇag·gō·w·yim

among the nations –

אֵ֣ין

’ên

[is] no [more]

תּוֹרָ֔ה

the Law

גַּם־

gam-

and

נְבִיאֶ֕יהָ

לֹא־

מָצְא֥וּ

חָז֖וֹן

. מֵיְהוָֽה׃

[and] keep silence .

of the daughter

הֶֽעֱל֤וּ

he·‘ĕ·lū

עָפָר֙

‘ā·p̄ār

עַל־

‘al-

on

– רֹאשָׁ֔ם

rō·šām,

their heads –

חָגְר֖וּ

ḥā·ḡə·rū

and gird themselves

שַׂקִּ֑ים

śaq·qîm;

הוֹרִ֤ידוּ

hō·w·rî·ḏū

. לָאָ֙רֶץ֙

lā·’ā·reṣ

to the ground .

רֹאשָׁ֔ן

rō·šān,

בְּתוּלֹ֖ת

bə·ṯū·lōṯ

. יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

with tears ､

､ חֳמַרְמְר֣וּ

is troubled ､

מֵעַ֔י

mê·‘ay,

נִשְׁפַּ֤ךְ

niš·paḵ

､ לָאָ֙רֶץ֙

lā·’ā·reṣ

on the ground ､

כְּבֵדִ֔י

kə·ḇê·ḏî,

עַל־

‘al-

שֶׁ֖בֶר

še·ḇer

of the destruction

בַּת־

baṯ-

of the daughter

– עַמִּ֑י

‘am·mî;

of my people –

בֵּֽעָטֵ֤ף

bê·‘ā·ṭêp̄

עוֹלֵל֙

‘ō·w·lêl

the sons

וְיוֹנֵ֔ק

wə·yō·w·nêq,

and the infants

בִּרְחֹב֖וֹת

bir·ḥō·ḇō·wṯ

in the streets

. קִרְיָֽה׃

qir·yāh.

of the city .

To their mothers ､

יֹֽאמְר֔וּ

אַיֵּ֖ה

where [is]

and wine ؟

בְּהִֽתְעַטְּפָ֤ם

כֶּֽחָלָל֙

like the wounded

בִּרְחֹב֣וֹת

bir·ḥō·ḇō·wṯ

in the streets

､ עִ֔יר

‘îr,

of the city ､

בְּהִשְׁתַּפֵּ֣ךְ

bə·hiš·tap·pêḵ

as is poured out

נַפְשָׁ֔ם

nap̄·šām,

אֶל־

’el-

in

חֵ֖יק

ḥêq

. אִמֹּתָֽם׃

their mothers' .

that I may comfort you

and deceptive visions

they have uncovered

on

､ עֲוֺנֵ֖ךְ

your iniquity ､

לְהָשִׁ֣יב

lə·hā·šîḇ

[שביתך]

šə·ḇî·ṯêḵ

-

– (שְׁבוּתֵ֑ךְ)

šə·ḇū·ṯêḵ;

your captives –

וַיֶּ֣חֱזוּ

way·ye·ḥĕ·zū

but have envisioned

לָ֔ךְ

מַשְׂא֥וֹת

the joy

we have seen [it] .

the horn

at the head

they have cuddled ؟

בְּמִקְדַּ֥שׁ

in the sanctuary

؟ אֲדֹנָ֖י

of the Lord ؟

וּבַחוּרַ֖י

and my young men

נָפְל֣וּ

– בֶחָ֑רֶב

ḇe·ḥā·reḇ;

by the sword –

הָרַ֙גְתָּ֙

hā·raḡ·tā

You have slain [them]

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

– אַפֶּ֔ךָ

’ap·pe·ḵā,

of Your anger –

､ טָבַ֖חְתָּ

ṭā·ḇaḥ·tā

You have slaughtered ､

לֹ֥א

not

. חָמָֽלְתָּ׃

[and] pitied .

– וְשָׂרִ֑יד
