Woe is

לִ֗י

me

כִּ֤י

kî

הָיִ֙יתִי֙

hā·yî·ṯî

I am

כְּאָסְפֵּי־

kə·’ā·sə·pê-

like the gathering

､ קַ֔יִץ

qa·yiṣ,

summer fruits ､

כְּעֹלְלֹ֖ת

kə·‘ō·lə·lōṯ

Like those who glean

– בָּצִ֑יר

bā·ṣîr;

vintage [grapes] –

אֵין־

’ên-

[There [is no]

אֶשְׁכּ֣וֹל

’eš·kō·wl

､ לֶאֱכ֔וֹל

le·’ĕ·ḵō·wl,

to eat ､

בִּכּוּרָ֖ה

bik·kū·rāh

of the first-ripe fruit

אִוְּתָ֥ה

’iw·wə·ṯāh

[which] desires

. נַפְשִֽׁי׃

nap̄·šî.

my soul .

אָבַ֤ד

’ā·ḇaḏ

חָסִיד֙

ḥā·sîḏ

the godly [man]

מִן־

min-

､ הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

the earth ､

וְיָשָׁ֥ר

wə·yā·šār

. בָּאָדָ֖ם

bā·’ā·ḏām

אָ֑יִן

’ā·yin;

[there is] no one

כֻּלָּם֙

kul·lām

– לְדָמִ֣ים

lə·ḏā·mîm

יֶאֱרֹ֔בוּ

ye·’ĕ·rō·ḇū,

אִ֥ישׁ

’îš

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אָחִ֖יהוּ

’ā·ḥî·hū

יָצ֥וּדוּ

yā·ṣū·ḏū

. חֵֽרֶם׃

ḥê·rem.

with a net .

עַל־

‘al-

הָרַ֤ע

hā·ra‘

כַּפַּ֙יִם֙

kap·pa·yim

with both hands

､ לְהֵיטִ֔יב

lə·hê·ṭîḇ,

that they may successfully do ､

הַשַּׂ֣ר

haś·śar

､ שֹׁאֵ֔ל

šō·’êl,

asks [for gifts] ､

וְהַשֹּׁפֵ֖ט

wə·haš·šō·p̄êṭ

and the judge [seeks]

– בַּשִׁלּ֑וּם‪‬‪‬

baš·šil·lūm;

a bribe –

וְהַגָּד֗וֹל

wə·hag·gā·ḏō·wl,

and the great [man]

דֹּבֵ֨ר

dō·ḇêr

הַוַּ֥ת

haw·waṯ

– נַפְשׁ֛וֹ

nap̄·šōw

ה֖וּא

hū

he

. וַֽיְעַבְּתֽוּהָ׃

way·‘ab·bə·ṯū·hā.

so they scheme together .

טוֹבָ֣ם

ṭō·w·ḇām

The best of them [is]

､ כְּחֵ֔דֶק

kə·ḥê·ḏeq,

like a brier ､

יָשָׁ֖ר

yā·šār

the most upright [is sharper]

– מִמְּסוּכָ֑ה

mim·mə·sū·ḵāh;

than a thorn hedge –

י֤וֹם

yō·wm

the day

מְצַפֶּ֙יךָ֙

mə·ṣap·pe·ḵā

of your watchman

פְּקֻדָּתְךָ֣

pə·qud·dā·ṯə·ḵā

and your punishment

– בָ֔אָה

ḇā·’āh,

עַתָּ֥ה

‘at·tāh

תִהְיֶ֖ה

ṯih·yeh

. מְבוּכָתָֽם׃

mə·ḇū·ḵā·ṯām.

their perplexity .

אַל־

’al-

Not

תַּאֲמִ֣ינוּ

ta·’ă·mî·nū

､ בְרֵ֔עַ

ḇə·rê·a‘,

in a friend ､

אַֽל־

’al-

not

תִּבְטְח֖וּ

tiḇ·ṭə·ḥū

do put your confidence

– בְּאַלּ֑וּף

bə·’al·lūp̄;

in a companion –

מִשֹּׁכֶ֣בֶת

miš·šō·ḵe·ḇeṯ

from her who lies

. חֵיקֶ֔ךָ

ḥê·qe·ḵā,

in your bosom .

שְׁמֹ֖ר

šə·mōr

פִּתְחֵי־

piṯ·ḥê-

. פִֽיךָ׃

p̄î·ḵā.

of your mouth .

כִּֽי־

בֵן֙

ḇên

מְנַבֵּ֣ל

mə·nab·bêl

､ אָ֔ב

בַּ֚ת

קָמָ֣ה

､ בְאִמָּ֔הּ

ḇə·’im·māh,

against her mother ､

כַּלָּ֖ה

kal·lāh

Daughter-in-law

– בַּחֲמֹתָ֑הּ

ba·ḥă·mō·ṯāh;

against her mother-in-law –

אֹיְבֵ֥י

’ō·yə·ḇê

אִ֖ישׁ

’îš

of a man

אַנְשֵׁ֥י

’an·šê

the men

. בֵיתֽוֹ׃

ḇê·ṯōw.

of his own household .

Israel Looks to the Lord

וַאֲנִי֙

wa·’ă·nî

– בַּיהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

to Yahweh –

אֲצַפֶּ֔ה

’ă·ṣap·peh,

will look

אוֹחִ֖ילָה

’ō·w·ḥî·lāh

I will wait

לֵאלֹהֵ֣י

lê·lō·hê

יִשְׁעִ֑י

yiš·‘î;

of my salvation

יִשְׁמָעֵ֖נִי

yiš·mā·‘ê·nî

will hear me

. אֱלֹהָֽי׃

’ĕ·lō·hāy.

My God .

Not

תִּשְׂמְחִ֤י

tiś·mə·ḥî

– אֹיַ֙בְתִּי֙

’ō·yaḇ·tî

my enemy –

לִ֔י

lî,

כִּ֥י

､ נָפַ֖לְתִּי

I fall ､

– קָ֑מְתִּי

qā·mə·tî;

I will arise –

כִּֽי־

אֵשֵׁ֣ב

､ בַּחֹ֔שֶׁךְ

ba·ḥō·šeḵ,

in darkness ､

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

Yahweh [will be]

א֥וֹר

’ō·wr

. לִֽי׃

to me .

I will bear

lōw;

עַד֩

‘aḏ

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

יָרִ֤יב

yā·rîḇ

､ רִיבִי֙

rî·ḇî

my case ､

וְעָשָׂ֣ה

wə·‘ā·śāh

מִשְׁפָּטִ֔י

miš·pā·ṭî,

יוֹצִיאֵ֣נִי

yō·w·ṣî·’ê·nî

He will bring me forth

､ לָא֔וֹר

lā·’ō·wr,

to the light ､

אֶרְאֶ֖ה

’er·’eh

I will see

. בְּצִדְקָתֽוֹ׃

bə·ṣiḏ·qā·ṯōw.

His righteousness .

וְתֵרֶ֤א

wə·ṯê·re

And will see

אֹיַ֙בְתִּי֙

’ō·yaḇ·tî

[she who is] my enemy

וּתְכַסֶּ֣הָ

ū·ṯə·ḵas·se·hā

and will cover her

בוּשָׁ֔ה

ḇū·šāh,

הָאֹמְרָ֣ה

hā·’ō·mə·rāh

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

אַיּ֖וֹ

’ay·yōw

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

؟ אֱלֹהָ֑יִךְ

’ĕ·lō·hā·yiḵ;

עֵינַי֙

‘ê·nay

תִּרְאֶ֣ינָּה

tir·’en·nāh

will see

בָּ֔הּ

bāh,

עַתָּ֛ה

‘at·tāh

תִּֽהְיֶ֥ה

tih·yeh

she will be

לְמִרְמָ֖ס

lə·mir·mās

כְּטִ֥יט

kə·ṭîṭ

. חוּצֽוֹת׃

ḥū·ṣō·wṯ.

י֖וֹם

yō·wm

[In] the day

､ לִבְנ֣וֹת

liḇ·nō·wṯ

when are to be built ､

גְּדֵרָ֑יִךְ

gə·ḏê·rā·yiḵ;

י֥וֹם

yō·wm

[In] day

הַה֖וּא

ha·hū

יִרְחַק־

yir·ḥaq-

shall go far and wide

. חֹֽק׃

ḥōq.

the decree .

[In] day

הוּא֙

וְעָדֶ֣יךָ

wə·‘ā·ḏe·ḵā

and to you

יָב֔וֹא

yā·ḇō·w,

they shall come

לְמִנִּ֥י

lə·min·nî

､ אַשּׁ֖וּר

’aš·šūr

､ וְעָרֵ֣י

wə·‘ā·rê

and the cities ､

מָצ֑וֹר

mā·ṣō·wr;

וּלְמִנִּ֤י

ū·lə·min·nî

and from

מָצוֹר֙

mā·ṣō·wr

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and to

､ נָהָ֔ר

nā·hār,

the River ､

וְיָ֥ם

wə·yām

､ מִיָּ֖ם

mî·yām

to sea ､

וְהַ֥ר

wə·har

. הָהָֽר׃

hā·hār.

[to] mountain .

וְהָיְתָ֥ה

wə·hā·yə·ṯāh

And yet shall be

הָאָ֛רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

the land

לִשְׁמָמָ֖ה

liš·mā·māh

עַל־

‘al-

יֹֽשְׁבֶ֑יהָ

yō·šə·ḇe·hā;

of those who dwell in it

מִפְּרִ֖י

mip·pə·rî

and for the fruit

. מַֽעַלְלֵיהֶֽם׃

ma·‘al·lê·hem.

of their deeds .

God's Compassion on Israel

רְעֵ֧ה

עַמְּךָ֣

‘am·mə·ḵā

､ בְשִׁבְטֶ֗ךָ

ḇə·šiḇ·ṭe·ḵā,

with Your staff ､

צֹ֚אן

ṣōn

､ נַֽחֲלָתֶ֔ךָ

na·ḥă·lā·ṯe·ḵā,

of Your heritage ､

שֹׁכְנִ֣י

šō·ḵə·nî

לְבָדָ֔ד

lə·ḇā·ḏāḏ,

､ יַ֖עַר

ya·‘ar

[in] a woodland ､

בְּת֣וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

in the midst of

– כַּרְמֶ֑ל

kar·mel;

יִרְע֥וּ

yir·‘ū

בָשָׁ֛ן

ḇā·šān

､ וְגִלְעָ֖ד

wə·ḡil·‘āḏ

and Gilead ､

כִּימֵ֥י

kî·mê

as in days

. עוֹלָֽם׃

‘ō·w·lām.

of old .

כִּימֵ֥י

kî·mê

As in the days when

צֵאתְךָ֖

ṣê·ṯə·ḵā

מֵאֶ֣רֶץ

mê·’e·reṣ

of the land

מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

אַרְאֶ֖נּוּ

’ar·’en·nū

I will show them

. נִפְלָאֽוֹת׃

nip̄·lā·’ō·wṯ.

יִרְא֤וּ

yir·’ū

גוֹיִם֙

ḡō·w·yim

וְיֵבֹ֔שׁוּ

wə·yê·ḇō·šū,

and be ashamed

מִכֹּ֖ל

mik·kōl

of all

. גְּבֽוּרָתָ֑ם

gə·ḇū·rā·ṯām;

יָשִׂ֤ימוּ

yā·śî·mū

יָד֙

yāḏ

עַל־

‘al-

､ פֶּ֔ה

peh,

[their] mouth ､

אָזְנֵיהֶ֖ם

’ā·zə·nê·hem

. תֶּחֱרַֽשְׁנָה׃

te·ḥĕ·raš·nāh.

shall be deaf .

יְלַחֲכ֤וּ

yə·la·ḥă·ḵū

They shall lick

עָפָר֙

‘ā·p̄ār

the dust

､ כַּנָּחָ֔שׁ

kan·nā·ḥāš,

like a serpent ､

כְּזֹחֲלֵ֣י

kə·zō·ḥă·lê

. אֶ֔רֶץ

’e·reṣ,

of the earth .

יִרְגְּז֖וּ

yir·gə·zū

They shall crawl

מִמִּסְגְּרֹֽתֵיהֶ֑ם

mim·mis·gə·rō·ṯê·hem;

from their holes

אֶל־

’el-

of

יְהוָ֤ה

Yah·weh

､ אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙

’ĕ·lō·hê·nū

יִפְחָ֔דוּ

yip̄·ḥā·ḏū,

they shall be afraid

וְיִֽרְא֖וּ

wə·yir·’ū

. מִמֶּֽךָּ׃

mim·me·kā.

because of You .

פֶּ֔שַׁע

the transgression

לִשְׁאֵרִ֖ית

liš·’ê·rîṯ

of the remnant

؟ נַחֲלָת֑וֹ

na·ḥă·lā·ṯōw;

of His heritage ؟

לֹא־

not

הֶחֱזִ֤יק

he·ḥĕ·zîq

､ לָעַד֙

lā·‘aḏ

אַפּ֔וֹ

’ap·pōw,

כִּֽי־

kî-

חָפֵ֥ץ

ḥā·p̄êṣ

חֶ֖סֶד

ḥe·seḏ

[in] mercy

. הֽוּא׃

hū.

He .

､ יָשׁ֣וּב

yā·šūḇ

He will again ､

יְרַֽחֲמֵ֔נוּ

yə·ra·ḥă·mê·nū,

have compassion on us

יִכְבֹּ֖שׁ

yiḵ·bōš

– עֲוֺֽנֹתֵ֑ינוּ

‘ă·wō·nō·ṯê·nū;

our iniquities –

וְתַשְׁלִ֛יךְ

wə·ṯaš·lîḵ

and You will cast

בִּמְצֻל֥וֹת

bim·ṣu·lō·wṯ

Into the depths

יָ֖ם

yām

of the sea

כָּל־

kāl-

. חַטֹּאותָֽם׃

ḥaṭ·ṭō·w·ṯām.

תִּתֵּ֤ן

tit·tên

אֱמֶת֙

’ĕ·meṯ

､ לְיַֽעֲקֹ֔ב

lə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

to Jacob ､

חֶ֖סֶד

ḥe·seḏ

[And] mercy

､ לְאַבְרָהָ֑ם

lə·’aḇ·rā·hām;

to Abraham ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתָּ

niš·ba‘·tā

לַאֲבֹתֵ֖ינוּ

la·’ă·ḇō·ṯê·nū
