– לָשָׁ֑בֶת

to dwell in –

וּמִגְרָ֗שׁ

and [also] common-land

לֶֽעָרִים֙

le·‘ā·rîm

סְבִיבֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם

sə·ḇî·ḇō·ṯê·hem,

תִּתְּנ֖וּ

tit·tə·nū

. לַלְוִיִּֽם׃

lal·wî·yim.

וְהָי֧וּ

wə·hā·yū

הֶֽעָרִ֛ים

he·‘ā·rîm

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

– לָשָׁ֑בֶת

lā·šā·ḇeṯ;

to dwell in –

וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶ֗ם

ū·miḡ·rə·šê·hem,

and their common-land

יִהְי֤וּ

yih·yū

､ לִבְהֶמְתָּם֙

liḇ·hem·tām

for their cattle ､

､ וְלִרְכֻשָׁ֔ם

wə·lir·ḵu·šām,

for their herds ､

וּלְכֹ֖ל

ū·lə·ḵōl

. חַיָּתָֽם׃

ḥay·yā·ṯām.

their animals .

וּמִגְרְשֵׁי֙

ū·miḡ·rə·šê

And the common-land

､ הֶֽעָרִ֔ים

he·‘ā·rîm,

of the cities [shall extend] ､

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

תִּתְּנ֖וּ

､ לַלְוִיִּ֑ם

lal·wî·yim;

the Levites ､

מִקִּ֤יר

miq·qîr

הָעִיר֙

hā·‘îr

of the city

וָח֔וּצָה

wā·ḥū·ṣāh,

אֶ֥לֶף

אַמָּ֖ה

’am·māh

. סָבִֽיב׃

And you shall measure

וַעֲלֵיהֶ֣ם

וּשְׁתַּ֖יִם

the cities [shall be]

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

תִּתְּנוּ֙

לַלְוִיִּ֔ם

lal·wî·yim,

to the Levites

אַרְבָּעִ֥ים

’ar·bā·‘îm

וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖ה

ū·šə·mō·neh

､ עִ֑יר

‘îr;

אֶתְהֶ֖ן

’eṯ·hen

[you shall give] these

וְאֶת־

and

. מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃

with their common-land .

וְהֶֽעָרִ֗ים

And the cities [shall be]

from the possession

of the sons

הָרַב֙

the larger [tribe]

– תַּרְבּ֔וּ

tar·bū,

you shall give many –

וּמֵאֵ֥ת

ū·mê·’êṯ

and from

הַמְעַ֖ט

ham·‘aṭ

– תַּמְעִ֑יטוּ

tam·‘î·ṭū;

you shall give few –

אִ֗ישׁ

’îš,

כְּפִ֤י

kə·p̄î

in proportion to

נַחֲלָתוֹ֙

na·ḥă·lā·ṯōw

the inheritance

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

. יִנְחָ֔לוּ

yin·ḥā·lū,

each receives .

Shall give some

מֵעָרָ֖יו

. לַלְוִיִּֽם׃

And they shall be

– מִגֹּאֵ֑ל

mig·gō·’êl;

from the avenger –

､ וְלֹ֤א

wə·lō

that not ､

יָמוּת֙

yā·mūṯ

הָרֹצֵ֔חַ

hā·rō·ṣê·aḥ,

עַד־

‘aḏ-

עָמְד֛וֹ

‘ā·mə·ḏōw

לִפְנֵ֥י

lip̄·nê

הָעֵדָ֖ה

hā·‘ê·ḏāh

the congregation

. לַמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃

lam·miš·pāṭ.

וְהֶעָרִ֖ים

And of the cities

תִּתְּנ֖וּ

you shall appoint

בְּאֶ֣רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

､ כְּנָ֑עַן

kə·nā·‘an;

of Canaan ､

עָרֵ֥י

‘ā·rê

מִקְלָ֖ט

miq·lāṭ

. תִּהְיֶֽינָה׃

tih·ye·nāh.

[which] will be .

לִבְנֵ֣י

liḇ·nê

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

of Israel ､

､ וְלַגֵּ֤ר

wə·lag·gêr

for the stranger ､

וְלַתּוֹשָׁב֙

wə·lat·tō·wō·šāḇ

for the sojourner

בְּתוֹכָ֔ם

bə·ṯō·w·ḵām,

תִּהְיֶ֛ינָה

tih·ye·nāh

שֵׁשׁ־

with an implement

､ בַרְזֶ֧ל ׀

iron ､

הִכָּ֛הוּ

hik·kā·hū

､ וַיָּמֹ֖ת

way·yā·mōṯ

so that he dies ､

– רֹצֵ֣חַֽ

rō·ṣê·aḥ

[is] a murderer –

ה֑וּא

יוּמַ֖ת

yū·maṯ

shall be put to death

. הָרֹצֵֽחַ׃

with a stone ､

אֲשֶׁר־

hurls something

､ בִּצְדִיָּ֖ה

while lying in wait ､

– וַיָּמֹֽת׃

so that he dies –

and while he [was]

– רָעָתֽוֹ׃

then shall judge

הָֽעֵדָ֔ה

hā·‘ê·ḏāh,

the congregation

בֵּ֚ין

הַמַּכֶּ֔ה

וּבֵ֖ין

ū·ḇên

and

גֹּאֵ֣ל

הַדָּ֑ם

of the blood

עַ֥ל

הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֖ים

. הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

וְהִצִּ֨ילוּ

So shall deliver

הָעֵדָ֜ה

the congregation

אֶת־

’eṯ-

הָרֹצֵ֗חַ

מִיַּד֮

גֹּאֵ֣ל

､ הַדָּם֒

of the blood ､

וְהֵשִׁ֤יבוּ

and shall return

and he shall remain

of the priest ､

לְנֶ֣פֶשׁ

､ רֹצֵ֔חַ

rō·ṣê·aḥ,

of a murderer ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

ה֥וּא

רָשָׁ֖ע

rā·šā‘

､ לָמ֑וּת

lā·mūṯ;

of death ､

כִּי־

kî-

but

מ֖וֹת

mō·wṯ

. יוּמָֽת׃

yū·māṯ.

he shall be put to death .

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

And no

תִקְח֣וּ

ṯiq·ḥū

כֹ֔פֶר

ḵō·p̄er,

לָנ֖וּס

lā·nūs

for him who has fled

אֶל־

’el-

to

עִ֣יר

‘îr

､ מִקְלָט֑וֹ

miq·lā·ṭōw;

of his refuge ､

לָשׁוּב֙

lā·šūḇ

that he may return

לָשֶׁ֣בֶת

lā·še·ḇeṯ

､ בָּאָ֔רֶץ

bā·’ā·reṣ,

in the land ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

מ֖וֹת

mō·wṯ

. הַכֹּהֵֽן׃

hak·kō·hên.

of the priest .

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

תַחֲנִ֣יפוּ

you shall pollute

הָאָ֗רֶץ

אֲשֶׁ֤ר
