A False Balance is an Abomination

מֹאזְנֵ֣י

mō·zə·nê

מִ֭רְמָה

mir·māh

תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת

tō·w·‘ă·ḇaṯ

an abomination to

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

וְאֶ֖בֶן

wə·’e·ḇen

but a weight [is]

שְׁלֵמָ֣ה

šə·lê·māh

. רְצוֹנֽוֹ׃

rə·ṣō·w·nōw.

､ בָּֽא־

bā-

זָ֭דוֹן

zā·ḏō·wn

וַיָּבֹ֣א

way·yā·ḇō

､ קָל֑וֹן

qā·lō·wn;

וְֽאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

but with

צְנוּעִ֥ים

ṣə·nū·‘îm

the humble [is]

. חָכְמָֽה׃

ḥāḵ·māh

תֻּמַּ֣ת

tum·maṯ

יְשָׁרִ֣ים

yə·šā·rîm

of the upright

תַּנְחֵ֑ם

tan·ḥêm;

will guide them

וְסֶ֖לֶף

wə·se·lep̄

but the perversity

בּוֹגְדִ֣ים

bō·wḡ·ḏîm

of the unfaithful

[ושדם]

wə·šad·dām

-

. (יְשָׁדֵּֽם׃)

yə·šād·dêm.

will destroy them .

לֹא־

lō-

Not

יוֹעִ֣יל

yō·w·‘îl

ה֭וֹן

hō·wn

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

､ עֶבְרָ֑ה

‘eḇ·rāh;

of wrath ､

וּ֝צְדָקָ֗ה

ū·ṣə·ḏā·qāh,

but righteousness

תַּצִּ֥יל

taṣ·ṣîl

. מִמָּֽוֶת׃

mim·mā·weṯ.

צִדְקַ֣ת

ṣiḏ·qaṯ

The righteousness

תָּ֭מִים

tā·mîm

of the blameless

תְּיַשֵּׁ֣ר

tə·yaš·šêr

will direct aright

､ דַּרְכּ֑וֹ

dar·kōw;

וּ֝בְרִשְׁעָת֗וֹ

ū·ḇə·riš·‘ā·ṯōw,

but by his own wickedness

יִפֹּ֥ל

yip·pōl

will fall

. רָשָֽׁע׃

rā·šā‘.

the wicked .

צִדְקַ֣ת

ṣiḏ·qaṯ

The righteousness

יְ֭שָׁרִים

yə·šā·rîm

of the upright

תַּצִּילֵ֑ם

taṣ·ṣî·lêm;

will deliver them

וּ֝בְהַוַּ֗ת

ū·ḇə·haw·waṯ,

but by [their] lust

בֹּגְדִ֥ים

bō·ḡə·ḏîm

. יִלָּכֵֽדוּ׃

yil·lā·ḵê·ḏū.

will be caught .

､ בְּמ֤וֹת

bə·mō·wṯ

אָדָ֣ם

’ā·ḏām

רָ֭שָׁע

rā·šā‘

､ תֹּאבַ֣ד

tō·ḇaḏ

will perish ､

תִּקְוָ֑ה

tiq·wāh;

[his] expectation

וְתוֹחֶ֖לֶת

wə·ṯō·w·ḥe·leṯ

and the hope in

אוֹנִ֣ים

’ō·w·nîm

. אָבָֽדָה׃

’ā·ḇā·ḏāh.

צַ֭דִּיק

ṣad·dîq

､ מִצָּרָ֣ה

miṣ·ṣā·rāh

from trouble ､

נֶחֱלָ֑ץ

ne·ḥĕ·lāṣ;

וַיָּבֹ֖א

way·yā·ḇō

and it comes

רָשָׁ֣ע

rā·šā‘

to the wicked

. תַּחְתָּֽיו׃

taḥ·tāw.

בְּפֶ֗ה

bə·p̄eh,

With [his] mouth

חָ֭נֵף

ḥā·nêp̄

יַשְׁחִ֣ת

yaš·ḥiṯ

､ רֵעֵ֑הוּ

rê·‘ê·hū;

his neighbor ､

וּ֝בְדַ֗עַת

ū·ḇə·ḏa·‘aṯ,

but through knowledge

צַדִּיקִ֥ים

ṣad·dî·qîm

. יֵחָלֵֽצוּ׃

yê·ḥā·lê·ṣū.

will be delivered .

בְּט֣וּב

bə·ṭūḇ

When it [goes] well

､ צַ֭דִּיקִים

ṣad·dî·qîm

with the righteous ､

､ תַּעֲלֹ֣ץ

ta·‘ă·lōṣ

קִרְיָ֑ה

qir·yāh;

the city

､ וּבַאֲבֹ֖ד

ū·ḇa·’ă·ḇōḏ

and when perish ､

רְשָׁעִ֣ים

rə·šā·‘îm

. רִנָּֽה׃

rin·nāh.

[there is] jubilation .

בְּבִרְכַּ֣ת

bə·ḇir·kaṯ

By the blessing

יְ֭שָׁרִים

yə·šā·rîm

of the upright

､ תָּר֣וּם

tā·rūm

is exalted ､

קָ֑רֶת

qā·reṯ;

the city

וּבְפִ֥י

ū·ḇə·p̄î

but by the mouth

רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים

rə·šā·‘îm,

of the wicked

. תֵּהָרֵֽס׃

tê·hā·rês.

it is overthrown .

בָּז־

bāz-

– לְרֵעֵ֥הוּ

lə·rê·‘ê·hū

his neighbor –

חֲסַר־

ḥă·sar-

He who is lacking

לֵ֑ב

lêḇ;

וְאִ֖ישׁ

wə·’îš

but a man

תְּבוּנ֣וֹת

tə·ḇū·nō·wṯ

of understanding

. יַחֲרִֽישׁ׃

ya·ḥă·rîš.

holds his peace .

הוֹלֵ֣ךְ

hō·w·lêḵ

רָ֭כִיל

rā·ḵîl

מְגַלֶּה־

mə·ḡal·leh-

､ סּ֑וֹד

sō·wḏ;

וְנֶאֱמַן־

wə·ne·’ĕ·man-

but he who is of a faithful

ר֝֗וּחַ

rū·aḥ,

מְכַסֶּ֥ה

mə·ḵas·seh

. דָבָֽר׃

ḏā·ḇār.

בְּאֵ֣ין

bə·’ên

Where [there is] no

תַּ֭חְבֻּלוֹת

taḥ·bu·lō·wṯ

､ יִפָּל־

yip·pāl-

fall ､

עָ֑ם

‘ām;

וּ֝תְשׁוּעָ֗ה

ū·ṯə·šū·‘āh,

but [there is] safety

בְּרֹ֣ב

bə·rōḇ

in the multitude

. יוֹעֵֽץ׃

yō·w·‘êṣ.

of counselors .

רַע־

ra‘-

יֵ֭רוֹעַ

yê·rō·w·a‘

כִּי־

kî-

עָ֣רַב

‘ā·raḇ

He who is surety

זָ֑ר

zār;

וְשֹׂנֵ֖א

wə·śō·nê

but one who hates

תֹקְעִ֣ים

ṯō·qə·‘îm

. בּוֹטֵֽחַ׃

bō·w·ṭê·aḥ.

אֵֽשֶׁת־

’ê·šeṯ-

חֵ֭ן

ḥên

תִּתְמֹ֣ךְ

tiṯ·mōḵ

､ כָּב֑וֹד

kā·ḇō·wḏ;

וְ֝עָרִיצִ֗ים

wə·‘ā·rî·ṣîm,

but ruthless [men]

יִתְמְכוּ־

yiṯ·mə·ḵū-

. עֹֽשֶׁר׃

‘ō·šer.

גֹּמֵ֣ל

gō·mêl

– נַ֭פְשׁוֹ

nap̄·šōw

for his own soul –

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

the man

חָ֑סֶד

ḥā·seḏ;

וְעֹכֵ֥ר

wə·‘ō·ḵêr

שְׁ֝אֵר֗וֹ

’ê·rōw,

. אַכְזָרִֽי׃

’aḵ·zā·rî.

[he who is] cruel .

רָשָׁ֗ע

rā·šā‘,

The wicked [man]

עֹשֶׂ֥ה

‘ō·śeh

– פְעֻלַּת־

p̄ə·‘ul·laṯ-

work –

שָׁ֑קֶר

šā·qer;

וְזֹרֵ֥עַ

wə·zō·rê·a‘

but he who sows

צְ֝דָקָ֗ה

ṣə·ḏā·qāh,

שֶׂ֣כֶר

śe·ḵer

[will have] a reward

. אֱמֶֽת׃

’ĕ·meṯ.

כֵּן־

kên-

As

צְדָקָ֥ה

ṣə·ḏā·qāh

righteousness [leads]

– לְחַיִּ֑ים

lə·ḥay·yîm;

to life –

וּמְרַדֵּ֖ף

ū·mə·rad·dêp̄

so he who pursues

רָעָ֣ה

rā·‘āh

. לְמוֹתֽוֹ׃

lə·mō·w·ṯōw.

[pursues it] to his own death .

תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת

tō·w·‘ă·ḇaṯ

[are] an abomination to

､ יְ֭הוָה

Yah·weh

עִקְּשֵׁי־

‘iq·qə·šê-

Those who are of a perverse

לֵ֑ב

lêḇ;

וּ֝רְצוֹנ֗וֹ

ū·rə·ṣō·w·nōw,

but His delight

תְּמִ֣ימֵי

tə·mî·mê

the blameless [are]

. דָֽרֶךְ׃

ḏā·reḵ.

in their ways .

יָ֣ד

yāḏ

[Though [they join]

､ לְ֭יָד

lə·yāḏ

לֹא־

lō-

not

– יִנָּ֣קֶה

yin·nā·qeh

will go unpunished –

רָּ֑ע

rā‘;

וְזֶ֖רַע

wə·ze·ra‘

but the posterity

צַדִּיקִ֣ים

ṣad·dî·qîm

of the righteous

. נִמְלָֽט׃

nim·lāṭ.

will be delivered .

נֶ֣זֶם

ne·zem

[As] a ring

זָ֭הָב

zā·hāḇ

､ בְּאַ֣ף

bə·’ap̄

in a snout ､

חֲזִ֑יר

ḥă·zîr;

אִשָּׁ֥ה

’iš·šāh

[So is] a woman

יָ֝פָ֗ה

yā·p̄āh,

וְסָ֣רַת

wə·sā·raṯ

. טָֽעַם׃

ṭā·‘am.

תַּאֲוַ֣ת

ta·’ă·waṯ

צַדִּיקִ֣ים

ṣad·dî·qîm

of the righteous

אַךְ־

’aḵ-

､ ט֑וֹב

ṭō·wḇ;

[is] good ､

תִּקְוַ֖ת

tiq·waṯ

[But] the expectation

רְשָׁעִ֣ים

rə·šā·‘îm

of the wicked

. עֶבְרָֽה׃

‘eḇ·rāh.

[is] wrath .

יֵ֣שׁ

yêš

､ מְ֭פַזֵּר

mə·p̄az·zêr

[one] who scatters ､

– וְנוֹסָ֥ף

wə·nō·w·sāp̄

and increases more –

ע֑וֹד

‘ō·wḏ;

וְחוֹשֵׂ֥ךְ

wə·ḥō·w·śêḵ

and there is [one] who withholds

､ מִ֝יֹּ֗שֶׁר

mî·yō·šer,

more than is right ､

אַךְ־

’aḵ-

but it [leads]

. לְמַחְסֽוֹר׃

lə·maḥ·sō·wr.

נֶֽפֶשׁ־

ne·p̄eš-

The soul

בְּרָכָ֥ה

bə·rā·ḵāh

､ תְדֻשָּׁ֑ן

ṯə·ḏuš·šān;

will be made rich ､

וּ֝מַרְוֶ֗ה

ū·mar·weh,

and he who waters

גַּם־

gam-

ה֥וּא

hū

he

. יוֹרֶֽא׃

yō·w·re.

will be watered .

מֹ֣נֵֽעַ

mō·nê·a‘

､ בָּ֭ר

bār

יִקְּבֻ֣הוּ

yiq·qə·ḇu·hū

לְא֑וֹם

lə·’ō·wm;

וּ֝בְרָכָ֗ה

ū·ḇə·rā·ḵāh,

but blessing [will be]

לְרֹ֣אשׁ

lə·rōš

on the head

. מַשְׁבִּֽיר׃

maš·bîr.

of him who sells [it] .

שֹׁ֣חֵֽר

šō·ḥêr

He who earnestly seeks

ט֭וֹב

ṭō·wḇ

יְבַקֵּ֣שׁ

yə·ḇaq·qêš

､ רָצ֑וֹן

rā·ṣō·wn;

וְדֹרֵ֖שׁ

wə·ḏō·rêš

but who seeks [evil]

､ רָעָ֣ה

rā·‘āh

. תְבוֹאֶֽנּוּ׃

ṯə·ḇō·w·’en·nū.

will come to him .

בּוֹטֵ֣חַ

bō·w·ṭê·aḥ

בְּ֭עָשְׁרוֹ

bə·‘ā·šə·rōw

ה֣וּא

hū

He

､ יִפֹּ֑ל

yip·pōl;

will fall ､

וְ֝כֶעָלֶ֗ה

wə·ḵe·‘ā·leh,

but like foliage

צַדִּיקִ֥ים

ṣad·dî·qîm

. יִפְרָֽחוּ׃

yip̄·rā·ḥū.

will flourish .

עוֹכֵ֣ר

‘ō·w·ḵêr

He who troubles

בֵּ֭יתוֹ

bê·ṯōw

יִנְחַל־

yin·ḥal-

､ ר֑וּחַ

rū·aḥ;

the wind ､

וְעֶ֥בֶד

wə·‘e·ḇeḏ

אֱ֝וִ֗יל

’ĕ·wîl,

the fool [will be]

לַחֲכַם־

la·ḥă·ḵam-

to the wise

. לֵֽב׃

lêḇ.

of heart .

פְּֽרִי־

pə·rî-

צַ֭דִּיק

ṣad·dîq

of the righteous

עֵ֣ץ

‘êṣ

[is a] tree

– חַיִּ֑ים

ḥay·yîm;

of life –

וְלֹקֵ֖חַ

wə·lō·qê·aḥ

and he who wins

נְפָשׂ֣וֹת‪‬

nə·p̄ā·śō·wṯ

. חָכָֽם׃

ḥā·ḵām.

[is] wise .

､ הֵ֣ן

hên

If ､

צַ֭דִּיק

ṣad·dîq

､ בָּאָ֣רֶץ

bā·’ā·reṣ

on the earth ､

יְשֻׁלָּ֑ם

yə·šul·lām;

will be recompensed

אַ֝֗ף

’ap̄,

כִּֽי־

kî-

רָשָׁ֥ע

rā·šā‘

. וְחוֹטֵֽא׃

wə·ḥō·w·ṭê.

and the sinner .
