The Unfriendly Pursue Selfishness

לְֽ֭תַאֲוָה

lə·ṯa·’ă·wāh

יְבַקֵּ֣שׁ

yə·ḇaq·qêš

､ נִפְרָ֑ד

nip̄·rāḏ;

a man who isolates himself ､

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

תּ֝וּשִׁיָּ֗ה

tū·šî·yāh,

. יִתְגַּלָּֽע׃

yiṯ·gal·lā‘.

He rages .

לֹֽא־

lō-

יַחְפֹּ֣ץ

yaḥ·pōṣ

כְּ֭סִיל

kə·sîl

､ בִּתְבוּנָ֑ה

biṯ·ḇū·nāh;

in understanding ､

כִּ֝֗י

kî,

אִֽם־

’im-

but

בְּהִתְגַּלּ֥וֹת

bə·hiṯ·gal·lō·wṯ

. לִבּֽוֹ׃

lib·bōw.

his own heart .

､ בְּֽבוֹא־

bə·ḇō·w-

רָ֭שָׁע

rā·šā‘

בָּ֣א

bā

גַם־

ḡam-

､ בּ֑וּז

būz;

וְֽעִם־

wə·‘im-

and with

קָל֥וֹן

qā·lō·wn

. חֶרְפָּֽה׃

ḥer·pāh.

[comes] reproach .

､ מַ֣יִם

ma·yim

עֲ֭מֻקִּים

‘ă·muq·qîm

דִּבְרֵ֣י

diḇ·rê

פִי־

p̄î-

of a mouth

אִ֑ישׁ

’îš;

of man

. נַ֥חַל

na·ḥal

[is] a brook .

נֹ֝בֵ֗עַ

nō·ḇê·a‘,

מְק֣וֹר

mə·qō·wr

. חָכְמָֽה׃

ḥāḵ·māh

שְׂאֵ֣ת

śə·’êṯ

פְּנֵי־

pə·nê-

､ רָשָׁ֣ע

rā·šā‘

the wicked ､

לֹא־

lō-

not

ט֑וֹב

ṭō·wḇ;

[it is] good

לְהַטּ֥וֹת

lə·haṭ·ṭō·wṯ

[Or] to overthrow

צַ֝דִּ֗יק

ṣad·dîq,

. בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃

bam·miš·pāṭ.

שִׂפְתֵ֣י

śip̄·ṯê

כְ֭סִיל

ḵə·sîl

of a fool

יָבֹ֣אֽוּ

yā·ḇō·’ū

､ בְרִ֑יב

ḇə·rîḇ;

into contention ､

וּ֝פִ֗יו

ū·p̄îw,

לְֽמַהֲלֻמ֥וֹת

lə·ma·hă·lu·mō·wṯ

. יִקְרָֽא׃

yiq·rā.

פִּֽי־

pî-

Mouth [is]

כְ֭סִיל

ḵə·sîl

of a fool

､ מְחִתָּה־

mə·ḥit·tāh-

destruction ､

ל֑וֹ

lōw;

וּ֝שְׂפָתָ֗יו

ū·śə·p̄ā·ṯāw,

and his lips [are]

מוֹקֵ֥שׁ

mō·w·qêš

. נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃

nap̄·šōw.

דִּבְרֵ֣י

diḇ·rê

נִ֭רְגָּן

nir·gān

of a talebearer

､ כְּמִֽתְלַהֲמִ֑ים

kə·miṯ·la·hă·mîm;

[are] like tasty trifles ､

וְ֝הֵ֗ם

wə·hêm,

and they

יָרְד֥וּ

yā·rə·ḏū

חַדְרֵי־

ḥaḏ·rê-

into the

. בָֽטֶן׃

ḇā·ṭen.

גַּ֭ם

gam

מִתְרַפֶּ֣ה

miṯ·rap·peh

He who is slothful

בִמְלַאכְתּ֑וֹ

ḇim·laḵ·tōw;

אָ֥ח

’āḥ

ה֝֗וּא

hū,

is

לְבַ֣עַל

lə·ḇa·‘al

to him who is great

. מַשְׁחִֽית׃

maš·ḥîṯ.

– מִגְדַּל־

miḡ·dal-

[is] a tower –

עֹ֭ז

‘ōz

שֵׁ֣ם

šêm

the name

יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

בּֽוֹ־

bōw-

to it

יָר֖וּץ

yā·rūṣ

צַדִּ֣יק

ṣad·dîq

. וְנִשְׂגָּֽב׃

wə·niś·gāḇ.

and are safe .

ה֣וֹן

hō·wn

עָ֭שִׁיר

‘ā·šîr

of the rich man

､ קִרְיַ֣ת

qir·yaṯ

city ､

עֻזּ֑וֹ

‘uz·zōw;

וּכְחוֹמָ֥ה

ū·ḵə·ḥō·w·māh

and like a wall

נִ֝שְׂגָּבָ֗ה

niś·gā·ḇāh,

. בְּמַשְׂכִּיתֽוֹ׃

bə·maś·kî·ṯōw.

in his own esteem .

לִפְנֵי־

lip̄·nê·še-

שֶׁ֭בֶר

ḇer

､ יִגְבַּ֣הּ

yiḡ·bah

is haughty ､

לֵב־

lêḇ-

אִ֑ישׁ

’îš;

of a man

וְלִפְנֵ֖י

wə·lip̄·nê

כָב֣וֹד

ḵā·ḇō·wḏ

honor [is]

. עֲנָוָֽה׃

‘ă·nā·wāh.

מֵשִׁ֣יב

mê·šîḇ

דָּ֭בָר

dā·ḇār

בְּטֶ֣רֶם

bə·ṭe·rem

יִשְׁמָ֑ע

yiš·mā‘;

he hears [it]

אִוֶּ֥לֶת

’iw·we·leṯ

הִיא־

hî-

it [is]

ל֝֗וֹ

lōw,

to him

. וּכְלִמָּֽה׃

ū·ḵə·lim·māh.

and shame .

רֽוּחַ־

rū·aḥ-

אִ֭ישׁ

’îš

of a man

יְכַלְכֵּ֣ל

yə·ḵal·kêl

– מַחֲלֵ֑הוּ

ma·ḥă·lê·hū;

him in sickness –

וְר֥וּחַ

wə·rū·aḥ

but a spirit

נְ֝כֵאָ֗ה

nə·ḵê·’āh,

מִ֣י

mî

؟ יִשָּׂאֶֽנָּה׃

yiś·śā·’en·nāh.

לֵ֣ב

lêḇ

נָ֭בוֹן

nā·ḇō·wn

of the prudent

יִקְנֶה־

yiq·neh-

– דָּ֑עַת

dā·‘aṯ;

וְאֹ֥זֶן

wə·’ō·zen

and the ear

חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים

ḥă·ḵā·mîm,

of the wise

תְּבַקֶּשׁ־

tə·ḇaq·qeš-

. דָּֽעַת׃

dā·‘aṯ.

מַתָּ֣ן

mat·tān

אָ֭דָם

’ā·ḏām

of a man

יַרְחִ֣יב

yar·ḥîḇ

ל֑וֹ

lōw;

וְלִפְנֵ֖י

wə·lip̄·nê

גְדֹלִ֣ים

ḡə·ḏō·lîm

. יַנְחֶֽנּוּ׃

yan·ḥen·nū.

– צַדִּ֣יק

ṣad·dîq

[seems] right –

הָרִאשׁ֣וֹן

hā·ri·šō·wn

the first [one]

בְּרִיב֑וֹ

bə·rî·ḇōw;

to [plead] his cause

[יבא־]

yā·ḇō-

-

(וּבָֽא־)

ū·ḇā-

רֵ֝עֵ֗הוּ

-

. וַחֲקָרֽוֹ׃

wa·ḥă·qā·rōw.

and examines him .

מִ֭דְיָנִים

miḏ·yā·nîm

､ יַשְׁבִּ֣ית

yaš·bîṯ

causes to cease ､

הַגּוֹרָ֑ל

hag·gō·w·rāl;

וּבֵ֖ין

ū·ḇên

and

עֲצוּמִ֣ים

‘ă·ṣū·mîm

. יַפְרִֽיד׃

yap̄·rîḏ.

אָ֗ח

’āḥ,

נִפְשָׁ֥ע

nip̄·šā‘

offended [is harder to win]

､ מִקִּרְיַת־

miq·qir·yaṯ-

than a city ､

עֹ֑ז

‘ōz;

[ומדונים]

ū·mə·ḏō·w·nîm

-

(וּ֝מִדְיָנִ֗ים)

ū·miḏ·yā·nîm,

and contentions [are]

כִּבְרִ֥יחַ

kiḇ·rî·aḥ

. אַרְמֽוֹן׃

’ar·mō·wn.

of a castle .

מִפְּרִ֣י

mip·pə·rî

– פִי־

p̄î-

of his mouth –

אִ֭ישׁ

’îš

of man

תִּשְׂבַּ֣ע

tiś·ba‘

shall be satisfied

בִּטְנ֑וֹ

biṭ·nōw;

תְּבוּאַ֖ת

tə·ḇū·’aṯ

[From] the produce

שְׂפָתָ֣יו

śə·p̄ā·ṯāw

. יִשְׂבָּֽע׃

yiś·bā‘.

he shall be filled .

מָ֣וֶת

mā·weṯ

וְ֭חַיִּים

wə·ḥay·yîm

and life [are]

בְּיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

in the power

､ לָשׁ֑וֹן

lā·šō·wn;

of the tongue ､

וְ֝אֹהֲבֶ֗יהָ

wə·’ō·hă·ḇe·hā,

and those who love it

יֹאכַ֥ל

yō·ḵal

will eat

. פִּרְיָֽהּ׃

pir·yāh.

מָצָ֣א

mā·ṣā

אִ֭שָּׁה

’iš·šāh

מָ֣צָא

mā·ṣā

ט֑וֹב

ṭō·wḇ;

וַיָּ֥פֶק

way·yā·p̄eq

רָ֝צ֗וֹן

rā·ṣō·wn,

. מֵיְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

– תַּחֲנוּנִ֥ים

ta·ḥă·nū·nîm

יְדַבֶּר־

yə·ḏab·ber-

רָ֑שׁ

rāš;

the poor [man]

וְ֝עָשִׁ֗יר

wə·‘ā·šîr,

but the rich

יַעֲנֶ֥ה

ya·‘ă·neh

. עַזּֽוֹת׃

‘az·zō·wṯ.

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

רֵ֭עִים

rê·‘îm

[who has] friends

､ לְהִתְרֹעֵ֑עַ

lə·hiṯ·rō·‘ê·a‘;

must himself be friendly ､

וְיֵ֥שׁ

wə·yêš

but there is

אֹ֝הֵ֗ב

’ō·hêḇ,

דָּבֵ֥ק

dā·ḇêq

. מֵאָֽח׃

mê·’āḥ.

closer than a brother .
