The Righteous are as Bold as a Lion

נָ֣סוּ

nā·sū

וְאֵין־

wə·’ên-

and when no one

､ רֹדֵ֣ף

rō·ḏêp̄

רָשָׁ֑ע

rā·šā‘;

וְ֝צַדִּיקִ֗ים

wə·ṣad·dî·qîm,

but the righteous

כִּכְפִ֥יר

kiḵ·p̄îr

as a lion

. יִבְטָֽח׃

yiḇ·ṭāḥ.

בְּפֶ֣שַֽׁע

bə·p̄e·ša‘

Because of the transgression

אֶ֭רֶץ

’e·reṣ

of a land

רַבִּ֣ים

rab·bîm

שָׂרֶ֑יהָ

śā·re·hā;

וּבְאָדָ֥ם

ū·ḇə·’ā·ḏām

but by a man

מֵבִ֥ין

mê·ḇîn

of understanding

יֹ֝דֵ֗עַ

yō·ḏê·a‘,

[and] knowledge

כֵּ֣ן

kên

. יַאֲרִֽיךְ׃

ya·’ă·rîḵ.

will be prolonged .

גֶּ֣בֶר

ge·ḇer

רָ֭שׁ

rāš

וְעֹשֵׁ֣ק

wə·‘ō·šêq

and who oppresses

דַּלִּ֑ים

dal·lîm;

the poor

מָטָ֥ר

mā·ṭār

[Is like] a rain

סֹ֝חֵ֗ף

sō·ḥêp̄,

וְאֵ֣ין

wə·’ên

and which leaves no

. לָֽחֶם׃

lā·ḥem.

עֹזְבֵ֣י

‘ō·zə·ḇê

Those who forsake

ת֭וֹרָה

ṯō·w·rāh

the law

יְהַֽלְל֣וּ

yə·hal·lū

､ רָשָׁ֑ע

rā·šā‘;

the wicked ､

וְשֹׁמְרֵ֥י

wə·šō·mə·rê

but such as keep

ת֝וֹרָ֗ה

ṯō·w·rāh,

the law

יִתְגָּ֥רוּ

yiṯ·gā·rū

. בָֽם׃

ḇām.

with them .

אַנְשֵׁי־

’an·šê-

רָ֭ע

rā‘

לֹא־

lō-

not

יָבִ֣ינוּ

yā·ḇî·nū

､ מִשְׁפָּ֑ט

miš·pāṭ;

וּמְבַקְשֵׁ֥י

ū·mə·ḇaq·šê

but those who seek

יְ֝הוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

יָבִ֥ינוּ

yā·ḇî·nū

. כֹֽל׃

ḵōl.

טֽוֹב־

ṭō·wḇ-

רָ֭שׁ

rāš

the poor

הוֹלֵ֣ךְ

hō·w·lêḵ

､ בְּתֻמּ֑וֹ

bə·ṯum·mōw;

in his integrity ､

מֵעִקֵּ֥שׁ

mê·‘iq·qêš

Than one perverse

､ דְּ֝רָכַ֗יִם

də·rā·ḵa·yim,

[in his] ways ､

וְה֣וּא

wə·hū

and though he [be]

. עָשִֽׁיר׃

‘ā·šîr.

נוֹצֵ֣ר

nō·w·ṣêr

תּ֭וֹרָה

tō·w·rāh

the law

､ בֵּ֣ן

bên

[is] a son ､

מֵבִ֑ין

mê·ḇîn;

וְרֹעֶה

wə·rō·‘eh

but a companion

זֽ֝וֹלְלִ֗ים

zō·wl·lîm,

יַכְלִ֥ים

yaḵ·lîm

. אָבִֽיו׃

’ā·ḇîw.

מַרְבֶּ֣ה

mar·beh

One who increases

､ ה֭וֹנוֹ

hō·w·nōw

his possessions ､

בְּנֶ֣שֶׁךְ

bə·ne·šeḵ

[ובתרבית]

ū·ḇə·ṯar·bîṯ

-

(וְתַרְבִּ֑ית)

wə·ṯar·bîṯ;

לְחוֹנֵ֖ן

lə·ḥō·w·nên

for him who will pity

דַּלִּ֣ים

dal·lîm

the poor

. יִקְבְּצֶֽנּוּ׃

yiq·bə·ṣen·nū.

מֵסִ֣יר

mê·sîr

One who turns away

אָ֭זְנוֹ

’ā·zə·nōw

מִשְּׁמֹ֣עַ

miš·šə·mō·a‘

､ תּוֹרָ֑ה

tō·w·rāh;

the law ､

גַּֽם־

gam-

תְּ֝פִלָּת֗וֹ

tə·p̄il·lā·ṯōw,

his prayer [is]

. תּוֹעֵבָֽה׃

tō·w·‘ê·ḇāh.

an abomination .

מַשְׁגֶּ֤ה

maš·geh

Whoever causes to go astray

יְשָׁרִ֨ים ׀

yə·šā·rîm

､ בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ

bə·ḏe·reḵ

in an way ､

רָ֗ע

rā‘,

､ בִּשְׁחוּת֥וֹ

biš·ḥū·ṯōw

into his own pit ､

הֽוּא־

hū-

He

יִפּ֑וֹל

yip·pō·wl;

himself will fall

וּ֝תְמִימִ֗ים

ū·ṯə·mî·mîm,

but the blameless

יִנְחֲלוּ־

yin·ḥă·lū-

. טֽוֹב׃

ṭō·wḇ.

חָכָ֣ם

ḥā·ḵām

– בְּ֭עֵינָיו

bə·‘ê·nāw

in his own eyes –

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

the man [is]

עָשִׁ֑יר

‘ā·šîr;

וְדַ֖ל

wə·ḏal

but the poor

מֵבִ֣ין

mê·ḇîn

who has understanding

. יַחְקְרֶֽנּוּ׃

yaḥ·qə·ren·nū.

searches him out .

､ בַּעֲלֹ֣ץ

ba·‘ă·lōṣ

When rejoice ､

צַ֭דִּיקִים

ṣad·dî·qîm

רַבָּ֣ה

rab·bāh

､ תִפְאָ֑רֶת

ṯip̄·’ā·reṯ;

[there is] glory ､

､ וּבְק֥וּם

ū·ḇə·qūm

but when arise ､

רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים

rə·šā·‘îm,

יְחֻפַּ֥שׂ

yə·ḥup·paś

hide themselves

. אָדָֽם׃

’ā·ḏām.

מְכַסֶּ֣ה

mə·ḵas·seh

פְ֭שָׁעָיו

p̄ə·šā·‘āw

לֹ֣א

lō

not

､ יַצְלִ֑יחַ

yaṣ·lî·aḥ;

will prosper ､

וּמוֹדֶ֖ה

ū·mō·w·ḏeh

but whoever confesses

וְעֹזֵ֣ב

wə·‘ō·zêḇ

and forsakes [them]

. יְרֻחָֽם׃

yə·ru·ḥām.

will have mercy .

אַשְׁרֵ֣י

’aš·rê

אָ֭דָם

’ā·ḏām

the man

מְפַחֵ֣ד

mə·p̄a·ḥêḏ

who is reverent

､ תָּמִ֑יד

tā·mîḏ;

וּמַקְשֶׁ֥ה

ū·maq·šeh

but he who hardens

לִ֝בּ֗וֹ

lib·bōw,

יִפּ֥וֹל

yip·pō·wl

will fall

. בְּרָעָֽה׃

bə·rā·‘āh.

into calamity .

､ אֲרִי־

’ă·rî-

[Like] a lion ､

נֹ֭הֵם

nō·hêm

– וְדֹ֣ב

wə·ḏōḇ

and a bear –

שׁוֹקֵ֑ק

šō·w·qêq;

מֹשֵׁ֥ל

mō·šêl

[Is] a ruler

רָ֝שָׁ֗ע

rā·šā‘,

עַ֣ל

‘al

עַם־

‘am-

. דָּֽל׃

dāl.

נָגִ֗יד

nā·ḡîḏ,

חֲסַ֣ר

ḥă·sar

תְּ֭בוּנוֹת

tə·ḇū·nō·wṯ

וְרַ֥ב

wə·raḇ

– מַעֲשַׁקּ֑וֹת

ma·‘ă·šaq·qō·wṯ;

[is] a oppressor –

[שנאי]

śō·nə·’ê

-

(שֹׂ֥נֵא)

śō·nê

[But] he who hates

בֶ֝֗צַע

ḇe·ṣa‘,

יַאֲרִ֥יךְ

ya·’ă·rîḵ

. יָמִֽים׃

yā·mîm.

אָ֭דָם

’ā·ḏām

עָשֻׁ֣ק

‘ā·šuq

בְּדַם־

bə·ḏam-

נָפֶשׁ‪‬‪‬

nā·p̄eš;

-

עַד־

‘aḏ-

– בּ֥וֹר

bō·wr

a pit –

יָ֝נ֗וּס

yā·nūs,

will flee

אַל־

’al-

no one

יִתְמְכוּ־

yiṯ·mə·ḵū-

. בֽוֹ׃

ḇōw.

הוֹלֵ֣ךְ

hō·w·lêḵ

תָּ֭מִים

tā·mîm

､ יִוָּשֵׁ֑עַ

yiw·wā·šê·a‘;

will be saved ､

וְנֶעְקַ֥שׁ

wə·ne‘·qaš

but [he who is] perverse

דְּ֝רָכַ֗יִם

də·rā·ḵa·yim,

יִפּ֥וֹל

yip·pō·wl

will fall

. בְּאֶחָֽת׃

bə·’e·ḥāṯ.

in one [moment] .

עֹבֵ֣ד

‘ō·ḇêḏ

אַ֭דְמָתוֹ

’aḏ·mā·ṯōw

יִֽשְׂבַּֽע־

yiś·ba‘-

will have plenty

､ לָ֑חֶם

lā·ḥem;

of bread ､

וּמְרַדֵּ֥ף

ū·mə·rad·dêp̄

but he who follows

רֵ֝קִ֗ים

rê·qîm,

יִֽשְׂבַּֽע־

yiś·ba‘-

will have enough

. רִֽישׁ׃

rîš.

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

אֱ֭מוּנוֹת

’ĕ·mū·nō·wṯ

רַב־

raḇ-

､ בְּרָכ֑וֹת

bə·rā·ḵō·wṯ;

with blessings ､

וְאָ֥ץ

wə·’āṣ

but he who hastens

לְ֝הַעֲשִׁ֗יר

lə·ha·‘ă·šîr,

to be rich

לֹ֣א

lō

not

. יִנָּקֶֽה׃

yin·nā·qeh.

will go unpunished .

הַֽכֵּר־

hak·kêr-

To show partiality

פָּנִ֥ים

pā·nîm

לֹא־

lō-

not

､ ט֑וֹב

ṭō·wḇ;

[is] good ､

וְעַל־

wə·‘al-

and because for

פַּת־

paṯ-

לֶ֝֗חֶם

le·ḥem,

יִפְשַׁע־

yip̄·ša‘-

will transgress

. גָּֽבֶר׃

gā·ḇer.

a man .

נִֽבֳהָ֥ל

ni·ḇo·hāl

לַה֗וֹן

la·hō·wn,

אִ֭ישׁ

’îš

רַ֣ע

ra‘

､ עָ֑יִן

‘ā·yin;

with an eye ､

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

and not

יֵ֝דַע

yê·ḏa‘

כִּי־

kî-

חֶ֥סֶר

ḥe·ser

. יְבֹאֶֽנּוּ׃

yə·ḇō·’en·nū.

will come upon him .

מ֘וֹכִ֤יחַ

mō·w·ḵî·aḥ

אָדָ֣ם

’ā·ḏām

אַ֭חֲרַי

’a·ḥă·ray

חֵ֣ן

ḥên

יִמְצָ֑א

yim·ṣā;

will find

מִֽמַּחֲלִ֥יק

mim·ma·ḥă·lîq

Than he who flatters

. לָשֽׁוֹן׃

lā·šō·wn.

with the tongue .

גּוֹזֵ֤ל ׀

gō·w·zêl

אָ֘בִ֤יו

’ā·ḇîw

､ וְאִמּ֗וֹ

wə·’im·mōw,

or his mother ､

､ וְאֹמֵ֥ר

wə·’ō·mêr

and says ､

אֵֽין־

’ên-

[it is] no

– פָּ֑שַׁע

pā·ša‘;

transgression –

חָבֵ֥ר

ḥā·ḇêr

ה֝֗וּא

hū,

He[is]

לְאִ֣ישׁ

lə·’îš

to

. מַשְׁחִֽית׃

maš·ḥîṯ.

רְחַב־

rə·ḥaḇ-

He who is of a proud

נֶ֭פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

יְגָרֶ֣ה

yə·ḡā·reh

､ מָד֑וֹן

mā·ḏō·wn;

וּבוֹטֵ֖חַ

ū·ḇō·w·ṭê·aḥ

but he who trusts

עַל־

‘al-

in

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

. יְדֻשָּֽׁן׃

yə·ḏuš·šān.

will be prospered .

בּוֹטֵ֣חַ

bō·w·ṭê·aḥ

בְּ֭לִבּוֹ

bə·lib·bōw

in his own heart

ה֣וּא

hū

is

､ כְסִ֑יל

ḵə·sîl;

a fool ､

וְהוֹלֵ֥ךְ

wə·hō·w·lêḵ

but whoever walks

､ בְּ֝חָכְמָ֗ה

bə·ḥā·ḵə·māh,

ה֣וּא

hū

he

. יִמָּלֵֽט׃

yim·mā·lêṭ.

will be delivered .

נוֹתֵ֣ן

nō·w·ṯên

לָ֭רָשׁ

lā·rāš

to the poor

אֵ֣ין

’ên

not

､ מַחְס֑וֹר

maḥ·sō·wr;

will lack ､

וּמַעְלִ֥ים

ū·ma‘·lîm

but he who hides

עֵ֝ינָ֗יו

‘ê·nāw,

רַב־

raḇ-

. מְאֵרֽוֹת׃

mə·’ê·rō·wṯ.

､ בְּק֣וּם

bə·qūm

רְ֭שָׁעִים

rə·šā·‘îm

– יִסָּתֵ֣ר

yis·sā·ṯêr

hide themselves –

אָדָ֑ם

’ā·ḏām;

､ וּ֝בְאָבְדָ֗ם

ū·ḇə·’ā·ḇə·ḏām,

but when they perish ､

יִרְבּ֥וּ

yir·bū

. צַדִּיקִֽים׃

ṣad·dî·qîm.

the righteous .
