The Flying Scroll

､ וָאָשׁ֕וּב

wā·’ā·šūḇ

And I turned ､

וָאֶשָּׂ֥א

wā·’eś·śā

､ עֵינַ֖י

‘ê·nay

my eyes ､

､ וָֽאֶרְאֶ֑ה

wā·’er·’eh;

and saw ､

וְהִנֵּ֖ה

wə·hin·nêh

מְגִלָּ֥ה

mə·ḡil·lāh

. עָפָֽה׃

‘ā·p̄āh.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

מָ֥ה

māh

؟ אַתָּ֖ה

’at·tāh

you ؟

רֹאֶ֑ה

rō·’eh;

do see

､ וָאֹמַ֗ר

wā·’ō·mar,

so I answered ､

אֲנִ֤י

’ă·nî

I

רֹאֶה֙

rō·’eh

– מְגִלָּ֣ה

mə·ḡil·lāh

a scroll –

עָפָ֔ה

‘ā·p̄āh,

אָרְכָּהּ֙

’ā·rə·kāh

Its length [is]

עֶשְׂרִ֣ים

‘eś·rîm

､ בָּֽאַמָּ֔ה

bā·’am·māh,

וְרָחְבָּ֖הּ

wə·rā·ḥə·bāh

עֶ֥שֶׂר

‘e·śer

. בָּאַמָּֽה׃

bā·’am·māh.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

זֹ֚את

zōṯ

this [is]

הָֽאָלָ֔ה

hā·’ā·lāh,

the oath

הַיּוֹצֵ֖את

hay·yō·w·ṣêṯ

עַל־

‘al-

פְּנֵ֣י

pə·nê

the face

כָל־

ḵāl

of all

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the earth –

כִּ֣י

kî

כָל־

ḵāl

הַגֹּנֵ֗ב

hag·gō·nêḇ,

מִזֶּה֙

miz·zeh

this [side] of [the scroll]

– כָּמ֣וֹהָ

kā·mō·w·hā

according [to] –

נִקָּ֔ה

niq·qāh,

shall be expelled

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

הַנִּ֨שְׁבָּ֔ע

han·niš·bā‘,

מִזֶּ֖ה

miz·zeh

this [side of it]

כָּמ֥וֹהָ

kā·mō·w·hā

. נִקָּֽה׃

niq·qāh.

shall be expelled .

､ הוֹצֵאתִ֗יהָ

hō·w·ṣê·ṯî·hā,

I will send out [the curse] ､

נְאֻם֙

nə·’um

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ צְבָא֔וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ,

of hosts ､

וּבָ֙אָה֙

ū·ḇā·’āh

and it shall enter

אֶל־

’el-

בֵּ֣ית

bêṯ

､ הַגַּנָּ֔ב

hag·gan·nāḇ,

of the thief ､

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and

בֵּ֛ית

bêṯ

הַנִּשְׁבָּ֥ע

han·niš·bā‘

of the one who swears

– בִּשְׁמִ֖י

biš·mî

by My name –

לַשָּׁ֑קֶר

laš·šā·qer;

וְלָ֙נֶה֙

wə·lā·neh

and it shall remain

בְּת֣וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

in the midst

､ בֵּית֔וֹ

bê·ṯōw,

of his house ､

וְכִלַּ֖תּוּ

wə·ḵil·lat·tū

and consume it

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

עֵצָ֥יו

‘ê·ṣāw

with its timber

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

. אֲבָנָֽיו׃

’ă·ḇā·nāw.

The Woman in a Basket

､ וַיֵּצֵ֕א

way·yê·ṣê

And came out ､

הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ

ham·mal·’āḵ

הַדֹּבֵ֣ר

had·dō·ḇêr

בִּ֑י

bî;

with me

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

שָׂ֣א

śā

נָ֤א

nā

､ עֵינֶ֙יךָ֙

‘ê·ne·ḵā

וּרְאֵ֔ה

ū·rə·’êh,

and see

מָ֖ה

māh

what [is]

הַיּוֹצֵ֥את

hay·yō·w·ṣêṯ

that goes forth

. הַזֹּֽאת׃

haz·zōṯ.

､ וָאֹמַ֖ר

wā·’ō·mar

So I asked ､

מַה־

mah-

what [is]

؟ הִ֑יא

hî;

it ؟

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

and he said ､

זֹ֤את

zōṯ

this [is]

הָֽאֵיפָה֙

hā·’ê·p̄āh

. הַיּוֹצֵ֔את

hay·yō·w·ṣêṯ,

that is going forth .

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And He said

זֹ֥את

zōṯ

this [is]

עֵינָ֖ם

‘ê·nām

their resemblance

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

､ וְהִנֵּ֛ה

wə·hin·nêh

And Here [is] ､

כִּכַּ֥ר

kik·kar

– עֹפֶ֖רֶת

‘ō·p̄e·reṯ

lead –

נִשֵּׂ֑את

niś·śêṯ;

וְזֹאת֙

wə·zōṯ

and this [is]

אִשָּׁ֣ה

’iš·šāh

אַחַ֔ת

’a·ḥaṯ,

a

יוֹשֶׁ֖בֶת

yō·wō·še·ḇeṯ

בְּת֥וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

. הָאֵיפָֽה׃

hā·’ê·p̄āh.

the basket .

､ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

way·yō·mer

Then he said ､

זֹ֣את

zōṯ

this [is]

. הָרִשְׁעָ֔ה

hā·riš·‘āh,

וַיַּשְׁלֵ֥ךְ

way·yaš·lêḵ

And he thrust down

אֹתָ֖הּ

’ō·ṯāh

אֶל־

’el-

תּ֣וֹךְ

tō·wḵ

– הָֽאֵיפָ֑ה

hā·’ê·p̄āh;

the basket –

וַיַּשְׁלֵ֛ךְ

way·yaš·lêḵ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֶ֥בֶן

’e·ḇen

הָעֹפֶ֖רֶת

hā·‘ō·p̄e·reṯ

the lead

אֶל־

’el-

. פִּֽיהָ׃

pî·hā.

ס

וָאֶשָּׂ֨א

wā·’eś·śā

And I raised

､ עֵינַ֜י

‘ê·nay

my eyes ､

､ וָאֵ֗רֶא

wā·’ê·re,

and looked ､

､ וְהִנֵּה֩

wə·hin·nêh

and there [were] ､

שְׁתַּ֨יִם

šə·ta·yim

､ נָשִׁ֤ים

nā·šîm

יֽוֹצְאוֹת֙

yō·wṣ·’ō·wṯ

וְר֣וּחַ

wə·rū·aḥ

and with the wind

– בְּכַנְפֵיהֶ֔ם

bə·ḵan·p̄ê·hem,

in their wings –

וְלָהֵ֥נָּה

wə·lā·hên·nāh

כְנָפַ֖יִם

ḵə·nā·p̄a·yim

כְּכַנְפֵ֣י

kə·ḵan·p̄ê

､ הַחֲסִידָ֑ה

ha·ḥă·sî·ḏāh;

of a stork ､

וַתִּשֶּׂ֙אנָה֙

wat·tiś·śe·nāh

and they lifted up

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָ֣אֵיפָ֔ה

hā·’ê·p̄āh,

בֵּ֥ין

bên

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

וּבֵ֥ין

ū·ḇên

and

. הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

haš·šā·mā·yim.

וָאֹמַ֕ר

wā·’ō·mar

So I said

אֶל־

’el-

to

הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ

ham·mal·’āḵ

הַדֹּבֵ֣ר

had·dō·ḇêr

בִּ֑י

bî;

with me

אָ֛נָה

’ā·nāh

הֵ֥מָּה

hêm·māh

מֽוֹלִכ֖וֹת

mō·w·li·ḵō·wṯ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

؟ הָאֵיפָֽה׃

hā·’ê·p̄āh.

the basket ؟

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and he said

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

לִבְנֽוֹת־

liḇ·nō·wṯ-

לָ֥הֿ

lāh

for it

בַ֖יִת

ḇa·yiṯ

בְּאֶ֣רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

– שִׁנְעָ֑ר

šin·‘ār;

of Shinar –

､ וְהוּכַ֛ן

wə·hū·ḵan

and when it is ready ､

וְהֻנִּ֥יחָה

wə·hun·nî·ḥāh

and [the basket] will be set

שָּׁ֖ם

šām

עַל־

‘al-

on

. מְכֻנָתָֽהּ׃

mə·ḵu·nā·ṯāh.
