"Therefore bear fruits in keeping with repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham. "Indeed the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; so every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." And the crowds were questioning him, saying, "Then what shall we do?" And he would answer and say to them, "The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise." And some tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, "Teacher, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Collect no more than what you have been ordered to." Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages."

When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they acknowledged God's justice, having been baptized with the baptism of John. But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected God's purpose for themselves, not having been baptized by John.

Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?”

They asked him, and said to him, "Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" John answered them saying, "I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.

These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.


I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’

John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people were coming and were being baptized—

And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He was staying there.


you yourselves know the thing which took place throughout all Judea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed.

And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism." Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus."

'These are the things which you should do: speak the truth to one another; judge with truth and judgment for peace in your gates. 'Also let none of you devise evil in your heart against another, and do not love perjury; for all these are what I hate,' declares the LORD."

Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?" Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.


And some tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?”

Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”

As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve, began asking Him about the parables.

When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable.

They asked Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, “Why could we not drive it out?”

In the house the disciples began questioning Him about this again.

“Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?”

It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples.”

A ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?”
