Later, the LORD ordered Moses, "Attack the Midianites and execute them, because they've acted deceitfully, bringing trouble to you in this incident at Peor with Cozbi, daughter of a prince from Midian, who was killed during the plague that came about because of the incident at Peor."

They burned every town where they had lived and incinerated all of their encampments. They took all the booty and plunder, including both humans and animals. Then they brought the captives, booty, and plunder to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the entire community of Israel at the camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan River in Jericho.

Then the LORD told Moses, "Write this in a book as a memorial and recite it to Joshua: "I'll certainly wipe out the memory of the Amalekites from under heaven.'" Moses built an altar and named it "The LORD is My Banner."
