The pharisee standing by himself prayed thus, O God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are, rapacious, unjust, adulterous, or even as this publican.
But though He had done so many miracles before their eyes, yet they did not believe on Him:
and when the sabbath was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many that heard Him were astonished, and said, From whence hath He these things? and what is this wisdom which is given unto Him, that even such mighty things are done by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here among us? and they were prejudiced against Him.
And many of them said, He is a demoniac, and is mad; why do ye hear Him?
For if ye love only them that love you, what reward do ye expect? do not even the publicans the same? and if ye embrace your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not the publicans so likewise?
If ye love only them that love you, what thanks are due to you? for even the wicked love those that love them: and if ye do good offices to them that do good to you, what thanks are due to you? for even wicked men do the same. And if ye lend to those from whom ye expect to receive, what thanks are due to you? for sinners also lend to sinners that they may receive an equivalent.

And those of the circumcision that were believers, who came with Peter, were astonished, that the gift of the holy Spirit was conferred upon the Gentiles also:

and ye turn your eyes toward him that weareth the fine clothes, and say to him, Sit thou here in an honorable place; and say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: do ye not make a partial difference within yourselves, and become judges that reason wickedly?
Receive him that is weak in the faith, but not to disputes about doubtful matters:
Wherefore judge nothing before the time; even until the Lord come, who will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every one have praise from God.
And as to those who seemed to be men of note, whatever they were, it is all one to me, (God accepteth no man's person) for even these eminent persons added nothing more to me.
But if ye partially respect persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
Then Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
And ye masters, do the same to them, forbearing threatening: knowing that ye yourselves also have a Master in heaven, and there is no respect of persons with Him.
but he that doth unjustly, shall receive for what wrong he hath done; and there is no respect of persons with God:
And he replied, If they hearken not to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one should rise from the dead.
Wo unto thee, Chorazin; wo unto thee, Bethsaida: for if the miracles wrought among you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes: therefore I tell you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgement, than for you. Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and slew those who prophesied concerning the coming of that righteous One, of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers;
"Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and vanish; for I do a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though any one should declare it unto you."
Then come the sadducees to Him, who say there is no resurrection;
And some of the Sadducees (who deny a resurrection) came to Him and asked Him,
And while they were speaking to the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the sadducees came upon them, being vexed that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them into custody till the next day: for it was now evening.
For the sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the pharisees acknowledge both.
