Jesus therefore said to Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath. The cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour! But for this cause I came to this hour.

And he came a little nearer, and fell on his face, praying and saying, Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me! nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou wilt. And he cometh to the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, Is it so that ye could not watch with me one hour? Watch, and pray that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. read more.
Again he went away a second time, and prayed, saying, My Father, if this [cup] cannot pass away from me, but I must drink it, thy will be done! And coming again he found them sleeping; for their eyes were heavy. And leaving them, he went away again, and prayed the third time, saying again the same words.

Then answered Paul, What mean ye that ye weep, and break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

For which cause we are not fainthearted; but though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh out for us, in a higher and still higher degree, an everlasting weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are but for a time; but the things which are not seen are ever lasting. read more.
For we know that, if our earthly tenthabitation be destroyed, we have a building provided by God, a house not made with hands, everlasting, in the heavens.

And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee! take away this cup from me. But not what I will, but what thou wilt.

For God delivered up all to disobedience, that he might have mercy upon all. O the depth of the riches, and of the wisdom, and of the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his purposes, and his ways past finding out!

Nay but, O man, who art thou that makest answer to God? Shall the thing that is wrought say to the workman, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter a right out of the same lump of clay to make one vessel for an honorable use, and another for a dishonorable?

Furthermore, we were chastened by the fathers of our flesh, and we gave them reverence; shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?

knowing that I must soon put off my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ declared to me.

Wherefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in welldoing, as to a faithful Creator.

for whom the Lord loveth, he chasteneth; and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth."

And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased; saying, The Lords will be done.

and they stoned Stephen, making supplication, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
