For the love of money is a root of all the evils, of which some aspiring have wandered from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Command the rich in the present age not to be arrogant, nor hope in the uncertainty of wealth, but in the living God, who supplies us all things abundantly for enjoyment,

If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, [Thou are] my confidence; if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much; if I have beheld the sun when it shone, or the moon walking in brightness,read more.
and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my mouth has kissed my hand (this also is an iniquity to be punished by the judges, for I would have denied the God that is above);

The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, [saying], Lo, this is the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

He who trusts in his riches shall fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

Why do thou glory in the valleys, thy flowing valley? O backsliding daughter, who trusted in her treasures, [saying], Who shall come to me?

By thy great wisdom [and] by thy traffic thou have increased thy riches. And thy heart is lifted up because of thy riches.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery. If riches increase, set not your heart [on it].

A poor man uses entreaties, but a rich man answers roughly.

The rich man is wise in his own conceit, but a poor man who has understanding searches him out.

And Ephraim said, Surely I have become rich. I have found wealth for myself. In all my labors they shall find no iniquity in me that is sin.

He shall not look upon the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and butter. That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down. But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich exploit you, and they themselves drag you into courts?

Behold the wage of the workmen who reaped your fields. The man who was defrauded by you cries out. And the outcries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of Lord of hosts.

The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own imagination.

And the disciples were astonished at his words. But again having answered, Jesus says to them, Children, how difficult it is for those who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God.

And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou have many goods laid up for many years. Take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry.

But God said to him, Thou foolish man, they demand thy soul from thee this night, and the things that thou prepared, whose will they be?
