When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah [saw] his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to king Jareb. But he is not able to heal you, nor will he cure you of your wound.

And he comes to the disciples, and finds them sleeping. And he says to Peter, So ye could not watch with me one hour.

But all this has come to pass, so that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples fled, having forsook him.

And having forsook him, they all fled.

Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

Put not your trust in rulers, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth. In that very day his thoughts perish.

Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils, for how is he to be accounted of?

Assemble yourselves and come, draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations. They have no knowledge that carry the wood of their graven image, and pray to a god that cannot save.

And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not. They have eyes, but they see not. They have ears, but they hear not. They have noses, but they smell not.read more.
They have hands, but they handle not. They have feet, but they walk not, nor do they speak through their throat. Those who make them shall be like them. Yea, everyone who trusts in them.

He who is too impoverished for [such] an oblation chooses a tree that will not rot. He seeks for him a skilful workman to set up a graven image that shall not be moved.

They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and do not speak. They must be carried, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, nor is it in them to do good.

Every man has become brutish, without knowledge. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his image, for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation they shall perish.

What profits the graven image, that the maker of it has engraved it, the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he who fashions its form trusts in it, to make dumb idols?

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, He who catches the wise in their craftiness, and again, Lord knows the thoughts of the wise that they are vain.

So the sons of Benjamin saw that they were smitten, for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin because they trusted to the ambushment whom they had set against Gibeah.

He takes the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely on it, therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly in an instant.

No man sues in righteousness, and no man pleads in truth. They trust in vanity, and speak lies. They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.

Therefore thus says lord LORD: Because thou have set thy heart as the heart of God, therefore, behold, I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations, and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness.

Professing to be wise, they became foolish,

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will frustrate the understanding of those of understanding. Where is a wise man? Where is a scholar? Where is a researcher of this age? Did not God make foolish the wisdom of this world? For since in the wisdom of God the world did not know God through its wisdom, it pleased God through the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe.

Which having, are indeed a matter of wisdom in will-worship, and self-mortification, and austerity of the body--not in any value against indulgence of the flesh.

For I will not trust in my bow, nor shall my sword save me.

Then David said to the Philistine, Thou come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin, but I come to thee in the name of LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou have defied.

There is no king saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain thing for safety, nor does he deliver any by his great power.

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they look not to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek LORD!

But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations. And I will overthrow the chariots, and those who ride in them. And the horses and their riders shall come down, each one b

Then Jesus says to him, Return thy sword into its place, for all those who take a sword will die by a sword.

He who trusts in his riches shall fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery. If riches increase, set not your heart [on it].

Why do thou glory in the valleys, thy flowing valley? O backsliding daughter, who trusted in her treasures, [saying], Who shall come to me?

Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little, and when ye brought it home, I blew upon it. Why? says LORD of hosts. Because of my house that lays waste while ye run each man to his own house.

And Tyre built herself a stronghold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets. Behold, LORD will dispossess her, and he will smite her power in the sea, and she shall be devoured with fire.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust deteriorates, and where thieves break through and steal,

And that which was sown in the thorns, this is he who hears the word, and the care of this age, and the deceitfulness of wealth, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
