But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

And he also spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

although I have ground of confidence in the flesh. If any other one thinks he may trust in the flesh, I [may] more; circumcised the eighth day, of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews, as to the law a Pharisee, as to zeal persecuting the church, as to righteousness by the law being blameless.

If we say we have not sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

And this is the message which we have heard from him and declare to you, That God is light, and with him there is no darkness. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie and observe not the truth;

Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, and anise, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice, mercy, and faith. These you ought to do, and not neglect the others. Blind guides! who strain out a gnat and swallow down a camel.

And he said to them, You are they that justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts; for that which is high among men is an abomination before God.

but exhort one another daily, while it is called to-day, that no one of you may be hardened by the deception of sin;

The Pharisee, standing by himself, offered this prayer; God, I thank thee that I am not as other men, rapacious, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican;

Do nothing in strife or vain glory, but in humility let each esteem others better than himself,

Let no man therefore judge you in eating and in drinking, or in respect to a feast, or new moon, or sabbath, which are a shadow of things that were to come; but the body is Christ's. Let no one wishing [it] deprive you of your reward by humility and a worship of angels, intruding into what he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his carnal mind,

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

for not he that commends himself is approved, but he whom the Lord commends.

You have departed from Christ, whoever of you are justified by the law, you have fallen from the grace.

And the Pharisees, who are avaricious, heard all these things, and derided him.

And Jesus said, I came into this world for judgment, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing become blind. And the Pharisees who were with him heard these things and said to him, Are we also blind? Jesus said to them, If you were blind you would not have had sin; but now you say, We see, your sin remains.

For you say, I am rich and have become rich and have need of nothing, and know not that you are miserable, and pitiable, and poor, and blind, and naked. I advise you to buy of me gold purified in the fire that you may be rich, and white robes that you may put on, and the shame of your nakedness not appear, and an eye-salve to anoint your eyes that you may see.
