Then he said to them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?

And said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

But those things which God before had shown by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.

And Paul, as his manner was, went in to them, and on three sabbaths reasoned with them out of the scriptures, Opening and alledging, that it was needful that Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach to you, is Christ.

Having therefore obtained help from God, I continue to this day, testifying both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should show light to the people, and to the Gentiles.

For I delivered to you first of all, that which I also received, that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures;

For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side-posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.

He is despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off from the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death: because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. From that time forth Jesus began to show to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and be put to death, and be raised the third day.

But I say to you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done to him whatever they pleased: likewise will also the Son of man suffer by them.

And he answered and told them, Elijah verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written concerning the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at naught.

But first he must suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation.

Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be when they see him they will reverence him. But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?

And he said to them, I have earnestly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause I came to this hour.

Then was Jesus led by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou art the son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted by the devil. And in those days he ate nothing; and when they were ended, he was afterward hungry. And the devil said to him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, If thou art the son of God, cast thyself down from hence.

Again, the devil taketh him up upon an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them,

And the devil taking him up upon a high mountain, showed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

And he was there in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan: and was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him.

But he turned, and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offense to me: for thou savorest not the things that are of God, but those that are of men.

Then Satan entered into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus to him, What thou doest, do quickly.

Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to be delivered, to devour her child as soon as it was born.

The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify concerning it, that its works are evil.

And when they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

If the world hateth you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

He came to his own, and his own received him not.

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them who are sent to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

And when he had come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong to thy peace! but now they are hid from thy eyes.

And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
